Hello and welcome to the website of Ether. This is where you can find all of the most basic information about who we are and what we're about. At first it's a bit to get your head around, so I recommend reading the entire page! For current members, we have a lot more to offer than you can find on this page, so head on over to the portal.
Ether is a bit of a weird one. I guess you could call us a goal-oriented, neo-related chat guild. We cater to all kinds of people, no matter what your reason for being on Neopets, you'll have a place here. You could be an artist, a battledomer, an avatar collector, a writer, a site-maker, a restocker, or anything else, and we'll support you and help you achieve your goals. Even if that's just through general encouragement or a friendly ear when you need to vent about getting silver instead of gold, we'll do whatever we can.
In saying that, we also love to have members who want nothing more but a friendly place to talk to others and make some friends. We're a community of players with all different interests that want somewhere nice and relaxing to hang out in that downtime, and everyone is welcome. If this sounds like something you'd be into, feel free to join us and say hello.
We have no age or account restrictions and no official written rules (*gasp*). We've found that most players these days are over 18 anyway, so as long as you're mature and friendly, you're welcome to be a part of our little family.
We currently have a member cap of 80, and when we reach this number we will be going private.
Here at Ether we have 3 blocks that members can join. Every member is automatically in the Guild block, but you can also choose to be in one or both of the special blocks, Creative and Account Improvement. These blocks are basically just used as categories for earning points in the guild, as well as giving us a way to figure out what each member is working towards. Below you can read about each block to see if you'd be interested in what they have to offer.
Neopets has had a large community of artists, writers and coders for quite a while now, so this block is here to cater to those members. We want to encourage you to improve your art, get your story published in the Neopian Times, finally give your pet a character, start that request site and code your own userlookup. If you take part in any kind of creative pursuit on Neopets, this block is for you.
SUB-BLOCKS: Writing, Art, Graphics & Coding
We may not be like dedicated account improvement guilds, but we're all here on Neopets and lots of us do have goals related to the game. This block is for those who might collect avatars or stamps, fight in the battledome, restock rare items to resell, feed kads, trade up for unconverted pets, or just like making lots of Neopoints.
SUB-BLOCKS: Avatars & Collections, Games & Kads, Battledome & Pets, Restocking & Neopoints
Guild This block is all about being a part of our community, making friends and generally being a social little butterfly. You have no choice but to be a part of this block, so you might as well hop on over to the message boards and start earning some points! We find that a great way to keep track of your goals (and points!) is to create a portfolio (something like this). We encourage all of our members that are in the Creative and Account Improvement blocks to do this. For now you can grab a premade layout from one of these sites, but soon we will have our own custom layouts for members to use that include somewhere to put guild related rewards.
Well well well. Where to begin? Points are big part of how our guild runs. They are how we encourage you to work towards your goals and participate in the guild itself, and they are how you take advantage of things in the guild, such as avatar lending and adopting pets. Points are effectively a form of currency here at Ether. You earn points by participating, and you can then spend those points. Once you reach rank 3 (flowing), you can also open your own stall where you can sell whatever you like to other guild members in exchange for their points. It might be a little confusing now, but it'll all make sense soon, don't worry!
You can read more about our whole points system at the Bank.
These ranks go in order from lowest to highest, and may change when we have things like events on and such. FUN FACT: All of our rank names refer to one of the 5 classical elements. How fun.
Rank 1 / Still
This is the rank when you first join the guild. There is nothing wrong with sticking to this rank if you feel like it, but if you want to move up and access some of the extra features of the guild, start earning points by working on your goals!
COST TO RANK UP: 500 points & 100 posts
Rank 2 / Alight
So you've started to get involved with the guild's activities and begun working at those goals. That's all well and good, but we'd love to get to know you a bit better! So keep doing what you're doing and join us over at the message boards, let's be friends!
COST TO RANK UP: 2000 points & 500 posts
Rank 3 / Flowing
You're stuck with us now. We all know you now, there's no escape.
At this rank you're free to open your own stall and start earning points by doing whatever it is that you do best.
COST TO RANK UP: 4000 points & 1500 posts
Rank 4 / Glistening
You're pretty close to the top of the food-chain at this point. Now we would love it if you could dig your nails into some of the newer members and help them with their journey while continuing your own.
COST TO RANK UP: Selected by council
Rank 5 / Quintessence
This rank is reserved for those special members who have really gone out of their way to contribute to the guild and it's members. You have your own stall with affordable prices, you regularly offer help to newer members, and even host some activities for the guild. This rank will only be given out on a case-by-case basis, and there are no set requirements.
Other members of Rank 2 or above can nominate members of Rank 4 by neomailing a council member with the reasons why they think that person deserves to be Rank 5.
Hello, I'm a 21 year old graphic design student from Australia. I like rock climbing, photography and yelling at Adobe. On Neopets I spend most of my time making CSS for my premades site and finding people to talk to while I procrastinate on real-life commitments. Please talk to me.
Ether is my brain-child that I created all by my lonesome to be the guild that I've always wanted to join, that never happened to exist.
Timezone: UTC+10 / NST+17
Applications for council are currently open
You have until June the 28th to get your applications in. Before you apply, make sure you know exactly what this position entails. Only one position is available at this time.
ABOUT THE POSITION
You will be a leader in Ether. It will be your job to help with content creation, keeping the guild in order, coming up with new ideas and helping deal with issues that may arise, as well as having input on decisions about the guild's future. You will be given some admin control in the guild and be expected to help new members find their place in Ether's community and not get lost in the message boards. You will also be available to answer other general questions new members may have. You will be willing to contribute to Ether without the incentive of points (but, you will still be able to earn and spend them like any other member, despite this fact).
You and I (and future council members) will work together as a team on Ether so that the guild and all of it's members reach their full potential.
This position has a 2 week probationary period, where you may be removed from council without warning if it doesn't turn out to be a good fit, but more likely because you aren't performing the duties mentioned here. You should also be aware that this is not a co-owner position. I've put a lot of work into creating Ether and want to wait until after we have been open for a while to potentially find someone that is just as dedicated to our success as I am, as well as sharing my vision for Ether's future. This means that, while your suggestions and opinions will be taken very seriously, I will still be making the final decisions, or they will be taken to a vote (depending on the subject).
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to neomail me before you apply. I'd rather you understand the position completely before sending in your application. All applications should be sent here before the 5th. Feel free to write in dot-points or remove the questions and write in paragraphs.
