This is a little page of symbols that I obtained from Character Map
*--all in size 4 text. Although not a complete list, I think these are some of the most common/helpful. The appearance of many symbols varies from browser to browser, as well. Also, they are
not Webdings or Wingdings. So Firefox users, rejoice! ^_^
However, some symbols may not be viewable by older computers, or on computers that don't have Microsoft Office because there are certain font faces that come with Office that contain most of these symbols.
They are SimSun and any one of the following: MS Gothic, MS Mincho, MS PGothic, or MS PMincho.

***UPDATE ON PASTEABLE SPACES: Isaac has let me know that the pasteable spaces on this page no longer work with Neopets filters. Boo! But thankfully he provided another character ( ) that should work. P.S. He also has a picture font guide at BoardPaint!
Character Map: You can get to it from the Start Menu » Accessories » System Tools. Macs have a similar called Character Palette (thanks Eliza for letting me know) that you can open through System Preferences » Personal » International » Input Menu, and click on the box next to "Character Palette." It should have a little flag icon. Anyway I highly recommend checking it out; it's really cool! And you'll find many, many more symbols that aren't on this page.

Do NOT too many letter symbols at once in a font, especially if you are newer to fonts. It is quite easy for your sig to look messy and hard to read. By lurking font boards, you'll eventually get a grasp of what most people like and don't like. Of course, however much you want to use alt letters is up to you, but keep this in mind.

When the blocks in the second line are used with the blocks in the first line for a picture block font, there will be large gaps between the line breaks in most browsers.
card suits
♠♣♥♦♡♢♤♧FYI: Some browsers/computers may see the unfilled heart as three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other. If you want it to show up, I advise bolding the heart.

Keep in mind that these signs have meanings such as integral, extremely greater/less than, approximately, etc... in case a math aficionado calls you out on a symbol they think is out of place in your font! Haha.
