Covert is a literate, mature, 16+ guild with a unique Secret Society theme. Our guild is currently almost two years old with over 50,000 messages and with 50-60 members at any given time. We offer a wide range of activities, games and events to our members, including our Journal Project, plots and member-hosted pages. As a secret society, we keep most of our workings under wraps, but for the none-members; you can read about us here (typically you would reach the aforementioned page after solving the puzzle here).
Before we go any further, it is important that you are hoping to apply for a council spot for the right reasons. We are aware that some people like the idea of council because it gives them "power". However, this is not what we are looking for. Council in Covert means spending time and effort to update and run things for the members to enjoy. That is not to say that it is all work and no play - if you enjoy creating and want to find a place where you can put your ideas to good use, or if you enjoy seeing others take part in what you have helped to create, or even if you are a natural born leader, you will find being a council member at Covert both rewarding and fulfilling. So, if you were hoping for a council position where you can just sit and look pretty, then you are most certainly in the wrong place.
We are going to be careful in our search to help ensure that we select the most appropriate two people for the job. However, seeing and experiencing are two very different things, and for this reason we reserve the right to remove any new persons from council within the first two weeks of their appointment. This goes both ways, though - and if you feel that council with us is not right for you, then you are able to step down from council within those first two weeks. Of course, after that time, you are still welcome to step down from council - however, you will be considered "hired" after that time frame and our search will draw to a close. We sincerely hope that you will respect the issues that arise from the sudden loss of a full-fledged council member, and will think carefully at the end of the two weeks before accepting the permanent position.

Council Role Description

The general running of your page requires an average of 20 minutes a day (but takes less as you get used to it). You will be responsible for the Warriors branch of Covert.
So you are interested in becoming the leader of the Warriors branch of Covert? As the branch leader, you will be responsible for hosting a homepage for your members. This page will contain a few specific aspects:
- Four main challenges for your members based on the goals of your branch. (Read branch goals).
- A record of the current members who are working on the challenges.
- News and updates to keep your members motivated.
- Information about your branch, and yourself.
Other than these required aspects of your homepage, you can be as creative as you wish. You can have further games and challenges for your members, graphics and buttons, spotlights, and more.
It is also up to you to work with your sub-council to decide what additional roles you wish to give them. Maybe you'll decide that one of you is in charge of making note of inactive members for the member sweeps, etc.
Further Responsibilities
In addition to the general running of your branch homepage, you also have some admin responsibilities. Most of these are shared by all of the council (and sub-council), so you need not feel too overwhelmed.- Board Monitor Ensuring all the posts on our boards follow our own, and neopets.com, rules and T&C. Deleting any that break the rules, and reporting continuous rule-breaking to one of the guild owners.
- Weekly Reports Specific to you This involves filling out a weekly report of things going on within your branch that the council need to know. Such information includes: members who are inactive, members who need anything updated on the main webbie (such as their directory), and further comments.
- Board Games You can host games on the Covert boards (and GC boards) and are able to award branch points for these games. Members can host board games as they feel like, but cannot award points.
- General Presence Never underestimate the powerful benefits of having the council as a presence on the guild boards. Answering questions, motivating members, passing on suggestions and feedback to the owners and other council.
- Taking on Role This is an aspect that will make more sense as we discuss your role within the wider guild in more detail (which will come as we get closer to accepting you as our council member). However, the guild, ultimately, operates within an overarching plotline. Covert is run by a group of interesting, and secretive, neopets! The Mastermind leader is a White Cybunny named Steyr... and that would be you.
What we expect from you
I know that it possibly sounded daunting, but the two-week overlap is there just as a safety net for both you and Covert. In fact, though it is important that the running of Covert is done with diligence, it is not time-consuming or mundane. Being able to share the workload with your other council members means that you will never get bogged down in updates. The Covert Council works as a team, and we rely on each other to put just as much work in so that no single leader feels overworked.The Covert Council and Sub-Council have some specific job descriptions that you can find in the following page. But, what we expect from you as a leader are the following;
Creative - We want someone who can bring something to the table in terms of ideas for Coverts growth.
Passionate - If leading a guild and creating things for other people to enjoy is something that you enjoy, then you are just what we are looking for. You must be dedicated and driven to seeing our guild be successful. Leading is not to gain rewards, but to take enjoyment out of creating!
Mature - We are a 16+ guild, so you do need to meet the minimum age requirement anyway. But, you also must have a mature outlook on leadership. Running a guild isn't always easy, and we need you to be able to keep a level head.
Sub-Council Role Description
You will be helping the council with the running of each branch. Each sub-council member will be linked with one specific branch (Masterminds, Mechanics, or Warriors). You won't be actively updating the page (unless you choose to host an aspect of it), but you'll have a variety of tasks set out in order to help your branch Council leader.
So you are interested in applying for one of the sub-council roles? This role is just as important to the guild as the council roles. You form the support system for your council to ensure everything flows smoothly. Each of the three sub-council we select will be placed with one council members for each branch. So, you'll work as a team.
The recommended roles for sub-council (and these can be changed by discussion with your council leader if wished) are:
- Checking members last active date weekly to identify inactive members for the weekly report.
- Alerting the guild account when members from your branch leave so they can be removed from the directory.
- General motivation for your branch members.
You might also decide that you wish to host fun pages for your branch such as additional games, graphics etc. And, if you feel like taking on more, there are guild jobs available that are automatically granted to council /sub-council that are interested.
Further Responsibilities
As well as these recommended tasks, you also have a few other responsibilities that will help ensure the success of Covert.- Board Games You can host games on the Covert boards (and GC boards) and are able to award branch points for these games. Members can host board games as they feel like, but cannot award points.

- Board Monitor Ensuring all the posts on our boards follow our own, and neopets.com, rules and T&C. Deleting any that break the rules, and reporting continuous rule-breaking to one of the guild owners.
How to apply?
Think you have what it takes to be a council member or sub-council member of Covert? Fantastic! Don't worry about all the information - we are sure it will make much more sense once you have applied and are given full access to Covert. The application process for council/ sub-council works in three stages.
Stage One
this stage is really simple, all you need to do is post a few paragraphs about yourself on our council search board (or privately through mail to Bethany (not) or Lydia (rs_rbn)). these paragraphs should address the reasons why you think you are rightfor the position. Address issues and information brought up on this page to show us what you've taken from this information. at this stage you are also welcome to ask questions - the more you ask, the better you can understand the role you are applying for.
we are not specifically seeking people with graphic or coding talent for either the council or sub-council roles - but this would be the right time to show us any example if you have them. You do need to be able to navigate code enough to update and edit already created pages

Stage Two
If we accept you at stage one, you move onto stage two which is the more official stage of the process. If you are someone applying from outside of Covert, then you'll be invited into the guild and thus able to explore all of our pages to get to know us a little more. We'll then go through more about your role, answer further questions, and then set you a task depending on which role you are applying for:
Council Role Task:
you'll be asked to create your branch homepage - either from scratch or based on a template we provide (depending on your coding abilities). the most important aspect of this is the content that you add to the page. We want to see what sort of ideas you have for the masterminds!
Sub-Council Role Task:
to be defined
