Temple of the Divines

Deep in the Lost Desert, far past the city limit signs, the sand turns from fickle ally to treacherous foe, extending its reach to any foolish enough to stumble into its snare. One false move and you're down in the ground to play with the fossils and the skeletons. However, there is a method to this desert's madness, and should you find it, the going is smooth enough. The key to navigating through the sand sea lies in the red flags atop their posts, established long ago by ancient ones long gone from this world. Find a flag, stammer to it, repeat the process. Eventually, you might make your way out of the worst of the blinding sandstorms.

Should you be fortunate enough to escape the sand sea, the ruins of what appear to be a stone tower await the weary traveler, beckoning him with the promise of a place to sit and rest his legs, perhaps crack open a canteen. However, as with most things that look too good to be true, this tower is no exception. Once the stone of the ruin is touched, the whole structure shimmers in and out of focus. Is this a mirage? If only you were so lucky. Instead of wavering out of existence, the ruins shake violently and the desert sun, glaring and unforgiving up to this point, dims considerably. Surely, this is not right, not natural, not... normal.

A shrill shriek that cannot be attributed to the desert wind tears through the air. Upon closer inspection, the source of the shriek seems to be a peculiarly placed stone slab atop the tower ruins. Too slowly, it dawns on you that this tower is a tomb.
