Now Playing: Lost Highway--Bon Jovi
Introduction
Cool! You think, pulling your jacket closer. Your jaw is nearly touching the ground in your awe.
Rolling hills surround you, creating a barrier. Wind gently breezes over the hills, causing the blades of grass to ripple, making a wave effect. A horse darts past, neighing in greeting before reaching another horse. Butterflies float around lazily, their fragile wings catching sharp gusts of air. A rabbit bounds over a rock and disappears into the ground, only to pop back up again, its brown fur flattened against its body.
Excitement bubbles in your body as you realize that there is a cliff near the end of the clearing. You slowly make your way towards it, trying not to disturb the wildlife that teems so eagerly around you.
A bird veers close to your face, twittering its sweet melody as it lands in a nearby tree. You hear a cat growl in the distance, as if the cat were attacking some poor animal. A snake uncoils itself from a branch, hissing at you as you move along.
A feeling of peace dawns on you as you take in the surroundings. Flowers bend this way and that at the base of a tree; ferns tickle tree bark, gingerly reaching up for the skies. The forest bordering the hills is thick with animal chatter, though you are far from it. You can barely see the small shafts of light that were lucky to push through the leafy canopy.
As the cliff looms closer, your sense of peace disipates in a second. Something is in the air; you can feel it in your bones. Though your jacket is wrapped around you snugly, the chill from the fall breeze seems to penetrate through the tough material. Shivers run down your spine in harmony, each one spaced about three seconds from each other.
Something flutters past; the sound of bird's wings reaches your ears. Something lands gently on the ground--you can hear the soft pad of muffled footsteps skidding to a halt. You turn ever so slowly; your mouth is as dry as cotton. What you see makes you gasp.
A wolf stands before you, smiling its malicious, lupine grin. The wolf looks like a vampire--two teeth are positioned over the wolf's lip. The wolf's pelt is a grey, though its stomach is white; the wolf's left paw--though it is the right paw to you--is splattered with a gold color. A stripe in the middle of the wolf's tail changes from its original color--black--to gold, then red, then back to black.
Of all those attributes, the thing that astonishes you is the wings that are between the wolf's shoulder blades. They are almost as long as the wolf's body. Though the original color is white, there seems to be a golden tint that covers the feathers when the sun hits it.
The wolf suddenly closes its eyes, as if in pain, and the wings slowly retreat back into the shoulder blades, disappearing from sight. Your jaw drops even further--if that is possible. The wolf looks at you again and grins wickedly, revealing its vampire-like fangs. "Hello, human."
You intake air quickly, surprised to be greeted by a female voice. You force your jaw to work. "H-h-hello."
The wolf shifts her light weight, licking her snout in the process. "What brings you here?"
You gulp and clench your hands, trying to calm the shiver that runs down your spine. "I-I was just exploring...who are you?" You ask.
The wolf eyes you, her eyes changing color again, as well as the stripe on her tail. "Sit," Immediately, you obey. "To learn about who I am, I think you need to hear a story. Do you have time?" You nod. "Then, let's begin..."
My Story
My name is Pheonix. The reason behind my name is because I take to the skies and soar, though my element is not fire--it is air. Get that through your head, thank you.
My family is one that I do not like to talk about, though I guess I will have to. My mother and father are dead, I presume. I don't really know, because I haven't exactly 'kept contact' with them. I guess you could say...they are not exactly the parents you would want to keep in contact with.
Currently, I live in the Silver Crystal Wolf Pack. I am in a pack with others like me--half-vampire, half-wolf, half-angel. If there is such a pack, I hope that I will be accepted quietly and easily. If that is possible, too....and I found it!
I currently have a mate. His name is Nyciel, and I love him so. He is winged like me, and we have many common interests. So, that means I'm off-limits!!
My Past
I have very little contact with my parents. Why not, you might ask? Well, let me relate it to the time I was born.
Though my eyes had yet to open, I heard my parents talking about getting rid of something, though I did not know what. Constantly, during my blind week, they debated on what to do. I, of course, was oblivious to whom they were addressing. They were always muttering things nearby, as if they did not realize I could hear their plans for whoever they were talking about.
Now, let's get into my perspective and jump back into time. The next few paragraphs will be in past tense, except without the 'had'...
My mother shifted her weight next to me as I drank her milk. I could hear my father rasp his tongue over his fur nearby. The only other noises that reached past my young ears was my suckling.
My father growled lowly before speaking to my mother. "What will we do?"
I could feel my mother's eyes look at me as she replied. "We have to get rid of it the moment it opens its eyes."
Another low growl tip-toed past my ears. "Exactly how? I know that it should be easy to get rid of it without any grudge--its not ours."
My mother whuffed out a breath. "How, I do not know." The tip of her tail tickled my nose, and I nearly sneezed. "It's amazing that it literally fell from the sky with wings."
Now that pricked intrest. I moved somewhat to get a better 'signal'. Wings? I have wings. I ruffled my wings a little while I tried to look inconspicious as I listened in on the conversation.
My father flicked his tail, too, letting it fall to the ground with a THUMP. "True, but the question still stands--how will we get rid of it?"
My mother noticed I had stopped suckling, so she wrapped her tail around her paws; I could feel the air move with the swish. "The cliff..." Her voice trailed off.
The cliff? I though inwardly, resting my head upon my small paws. Who are they talking about?
Suddenly, my father stood up and walked over to my mother; I felt the vibrations from his heavy footsteps. He whispered something in my mother's ear, but I could not make any sense of it. I felt my mother's paw wrap around me and pull me close, and then darkness crept in the sides of my eyes as I drifted off to sleep.
A week sped by, and I opened my eyes for the first time. Though the average time for a pup to open its eyes is at least two to three weeks, I was a different matter...
I caught a glimpse of my mother and father. She had nice, brown fur with bright, yellow eyes; my father had redish fur with green eyes. I realized they I didn't look anything like them when I noticed they had no wings. It was then that my father stepped forward and grabbed me by the scruff.
I didn't see any of my surroundings; I only say the horizon and what lay above it. Wind pushed around me, catching in my wings, but I did not fly and catch the updraft. My wings were too short, and they were far from usable. All I could hear was the roar of the wind; all I could feel was the tendrils of air lifting my fur.
And suddenly, instead of moving forward, I was moving downward at a face pace. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was falling from a tremendous height, and my supposed parents were up above on land, watching me fall without a care.
The same wind was even more of a roar now, whooshing past my ears. The ground loomed closer and closer, until I could make out the details of the wildlife that surrounded the area. I tried to flap my wings, but they did not move. I had a feeling I was going to die, crushed by the force of impact I was about to recieve.
Truth be told, I crashed into the ground, leaving an imprint of my body. Pain lanced up my muscles, leaving me gasping for air. I tried to move, and a burn shot up my left paw, the one splattered with the golden color. I realized too soon that I had a broken paw, and that I could not put weight on it. I struggled to get up on my other feet, but I was able to eventually.
I crawled my way to a leaf that was fairly large and broad, providing the perfect shelter from the rain that had just begun. I tried to nurture my paw, but all my attempts failed until I fell asleep...and woke up with a perfectly healed paw. The pain was all gone, and I was as good as new.
My wings were gone, though. I nearly panicked as I tried to figure out what happened. Only when the hurtful sensation between my shoulder blades register in my mind did I notice that my wings had merely slid back into my body, hidden from sight.
From then on, I ran away from that trecherous place. I have yet to walk the entire earth, but I have neared a pack--The Silver Crystal Wolf Pack. I hope that they will accept me as a pack member...
So that's my past, or a short summary. I will not go into further detail. Period.
