A crisp mood dominates the night as you gaze up at the sky, your eyes clearly catching the specks of light amid a cloudless blanket of dark blue. Despite the lateness of the time, your mind feels wide awake and ready to spend an enjoyably long night just sitting here and gazing at the sky.
But… wait. You're about to settle yourself down onto the barely damp grass, yet some instinct tells you, not yet. There must be a nicer spot to gaze at the heavens, a higher ground for an even better view.
A part of you grumbles at having to travel further. But hey, a minute ago you were thinking of how much energy you had, weren't you? Chiding yourself for letting laziness keep a potentially perfect night from being subpar, you glance around, and immediately your gaze picks out something: a hill that rises above the flatness of the rest of the ground. It really isn't much, but something about the mound of earth just seems so inviting; besides, it isn't that far away. Blinking to try to bring the dark hill clearer into your focus, you saunter over to it with a relaxed pace that matches the serene atmosphere of the night.
As you near the hill, you notice that apparently you won't be alone in your stargazing. Perched upon the hill is a young dragon whose pale blue scales gleam like ice, even in the relative dimness of the starlight. And what's that little speck of light hovering near her nose? Well, it's a nice enough night, you reflect; not too unlikely that a firefly or two would be about in this kind of weather.
Though the tilt of her head shows how her attention is clearly focused on the stars, the swish of her tail as you approach makes it obvious that she's aware of your presence. You haul yourself up the hill, relieved that it isn't steeper than it appears, and only once you've settled down beside her does she turn a clear blue gaze away from the sky and to you.
I figured I'd have company pretty soon," she says cheerfully, giving her head a slight toss to keep her mane out of her eyes. At your questioning look, she continues, "It's such a lovely night, and this hill is the best place for kilometres around to appreciate it." Her voice is gentle and light, almost chiming, with a hint of friendly teasing.
So you don't mind if I appreciate it here with you?" you ask, jumping (metaphorically, of course) at the opportunity. Not only is this definitely a great night – and the best spot – for stargazing; this dragon already intrigues you, though you've just met her.
No, of course not," she answers warmly, shifting over a bit to let you sit more comfortably and giving you a welcoming smile. "My name's Rikka, by the way," she adds.
An elegant name, definitely fitting this dragon. You tell her your name, then inquire, because she seems so forthcoming, "Do you stargaze a lot?
Of course," she says, a spark of joy lighting up her eyes. You can recognize passion when it stares you in the face. "Who wouldn't? The stars are so beautiful and mysterious - so tiny, yet each one fills the world with just a little more light… just like fireflies." She laughs as the little bug hovers in front of your face, and you follow its jagged path with your eyes.
Rikka is evidently doing the same, because she turns her head to watch when the bright insect changes direction abruptly and zooms off into the darkness of the night. And even after the firefly is gone, her gaze remains fixed in the distance, and there seems to be some sad emotion within it, clashing with the rest of her personality.
And then she turns back to you, and the conversation resumes. You can just almost, almost make yourself believe that it's nothing, or just your imagination, but whenever her gaze shifts again, you can see the melancholy feeling hiding at the corners of her eyes.
It's not sadness, exactly, you realize; not pure sadness, at least. No, it's more like loneliness… but you wouldn't say it's that, either. No, what you see inside this stargazing young dragon is more like a longing, a quiet yearning for something out there. This dragon is looking for something, you conclude, and you're determined to figure out what it is before the night is over.

I guess you'd like to know a bit more about me?" Rikka suggests, her gaze shifting from the sky and its treasures to you.
You're trying to keep your face neutral, but your curiosity's certainly eager to know more about her. "Sure, why not?" you answer, throwing in a little shrug to conceal the interest that lurks in your tone.
But either you aren't very good at this, or Rikka's just more perceptive than you'd figured, because there's a spark of amusement in her eyes, and you have a feeling that it's at your expense. "If you say so," she answers, and the slight chucke in her voice rings gently through your ears.

-intro to this section will go here sometime-
My cousin Auron is the coolest dragon around. He's been letting me live with him in his cave for the past few months. It's pretty cool here, as long as you don't trip over all of the random treasure he has hoarded away. Honestly though, beneath the gruff and grumpy face he usually puts on, he can be really sweet! He doesn't appreciate strangers much, though. He doesn't like flowers either, but I'm working on that.
Emblem is pretty cool too. I don't think he has a real home, though I don't know why... according to him, he's just the kind of restless type, but he seems lonely. He comes by here every once in a while, and Auron lets him stay with us when he does, even if I can tell Auron doesn't really like him. I like him, though. He's looking for the Bright Star too... I really hope he finds it.
I think Dun is Auron's friend or something. I don't really see him around that much... I don't really know him all that well. He used to show up once every couple of months. I haven't seem him around lately though. Honestly, I'm a bit glad. He always seemed a bit full of himself. I guess I shouldn't assume if I don't know him, though.
The last time Ryze came to visit, he brought a friend with him--Roddy. I don't know much about him, only what Ryze has told me, but he seems nice enough, even if he does seem a bit... dark. I'm not really sure if I trust him, but Ryze seems to, and he's helping us find the Bright Star, so I guess he's on our side.

My reference sheet.
