The sky was scattered with white dots and the grown sparkled in the moonlight. The morning dew was just settling in. A young pink lupess walked quietly from the den. She just made it to the entrance when a deep voice startled her.
Where do you think you're going?"
She froze, but it was only her brother, "You startled me Paws. Why aren't you in bed?
His red eyes could be seen clearly through the dark night air. "You didn't answer my question, what are you doing?
She hated it when he asked questions like that. She's always being watched either by the den elders or the warriors. Aurapaws kept an eye on her too but only because of the war that's been going on. He doesn't want to see her dead.
I'm going for a walk. Would it make you feel better if I asked you to join me?
He closed his eyes in thought and let his wings stretch. "Why not, nothing else better to do." He got up from his resting spot and glided down to her side. They started making their way to the forest. It was the only safe place from the enemy pack.
When do you think this war will end? She asked. She was so tired of her father asking her to do things that she didn't want to do. Using her gifts for others caused her more pain than anything else.
It's hard to tell Mai, he answered. Father wants total control and he won't stop until he has it. What he doesn't realize is if he wins he won't have much.
You two don't even get along do you? It wasn't hard to see. Everytime Aurapaws suggested a new strategy of attack, father would just brush it off like it was nothing.

What is it? Mai whispered. A rustling came from behind them in the brush. She tensed up, waiting for an ambush.

The outline of a Lupe came into view.
Who goes there? Aurapaws barked. He braced himself to pounce if it was an enemy.
Relax, it's only me, The Lupe stepped out into the moonlight. Auramai would recognize that spotted pelt anywhere.
Vhanni, she said softly. Her smile hinted to Aurapaws that it was his time to leave.
Don't be out too late. The sun will rise soon, he said. With that he faded into the darkness back to the den, leaving just Vhanni and Auramai alone.
