Why isn't the human herself here?" the kougra interjected, flipping pages on her clipboard to a clean sheet. Er, well Rose is a college student in this place she calls the 'real world.' I've never been. The way she talks of it it sounds absolutely dreadful and- So she's in school," the reporter continued as they made their way down a large hallway, the walls of which were lined with many photographs of pets of all kinds. What does she do there? Well, she's a second-year student. I believe they're called 'sophomores' or some ridiculous word like that. She's majoring in Geography and wants to work in the National Park Service. Her secondary area of specialization is some language...er, Spanish? Does that sound right? I think that's it. She speaks it sometimes when she's thinking out loud. During the summer she teaches English to those who don't speak it; sometimes I think she'd rather give up school and do that for the rest of her life. She loves it. That's enough of that. Who are these pets?" the kougra said, pointing to the pictures on the walls. They can't all belong to her. Oh heavens no," Atrae indicated a large picture of a green and blue lupe playing in what appeared to be a garden. This is a picture of Rom, before he was changed of course, the green one, and Ching, the blue. Ching belongs to Skayza, Rose's best friend here in this world and in 'real life.' Rom and Ching are age mates, and by that I mean they share a birthday. They were inseparable when they were younger. What happened? Oh, well..." the grarrl twisted her paws in her skirt, Rom...changed. Now this picture is of Lakosa and Keevasah, Rose's koi and Skayza's peophin. They're unique in that they are the only water-bound pets of both owners so they spend a lot of time together. These two down here are- How many pets does Rose care for? Well let's see," the grarrl pushed open a door into what appeared to be a sitting room. It was small, not at all what one would have thought from the outside. There's Rom, Jax, Ske, Lash, Cyb, Sanj, Ru, Lin, Soka, Fahro, Lynwe, Ceardach, Ty, Roth, Wyn, Cica, and myself. Plus the two foster pets on her laboratory accounts. So Raii would be her twentieth pet? Where would she be going? Well all of us have a room here, but she'd also have a room in Ceardach's house. By that you mean she'd be assigned to that account? Yes. You could have said that in the first place. Does this Rose engage in art of any kind? Art?" Atrae asked with a snort, Heavens, Rose's stick figures have osteoporosis. I don't want to imagine what she'd do- Very well then what's that?" the kougra asked, pointing to a primitive work hanging on the wall. ![]() Oh, er, well," the grarrl trailed off, she did dabble in colored pencils once, but it's not a regular thing- And that one? ![]() |

Hello there. I'm the human in question, Rose, though my name in reality is Angie. While Atrae takes our friend on a tour of the rest of the house, I'd like to present you with a little bit of a role play example (though I hope you'll be able to get a better sense of my style throughout this application) mixed with a bit of the back story I've got in mind for Raii. I'd like to nickname her Avi, as it reminds me of flight-like things and with her being Faerie and all... Ah but I digress. Anyway this should tell you a little bit about how I'd be role playing Avi, and of course I'll be here at the end to explain some things I doubt will be crystal clear in the excerpt. I'm a little hard to understand in my first impressions, which is why my role play partners have to stick with me in a story. They do eventually get it. |
My lady, you mustn't tarry! They are here! A head poised delicately on its neck raised slowly at the words, pale, almost translucent, eyes taking in the messenger with a cool defiance. I will remain where I am; you are dismissed. But my lady, they will- I said," the female interrupted with a raised paw and voice, you are dismissed. Stunned, the servant stood in the doorway, unable to believe what he had just heard. Screaming from the lower floors jarred him into action and he bowed low, As you wish, my lady." Crazy female," he added under his breath, taking off down the corridor making for the servants' entrance. An entrance also served as an exit, and the invaders were not likely to seek it out. -And so my dear cousin, I fondly anticipate our time spent together and a summer of delightful adventure. Warmest regards, Your darling Avi- The signature was made with a flourish, and the gelert sat back in her chair, pleased with herself. The room was grand, a plush red rug, ornate mahogany furniture, and a grand canopied bed. She herself was dressed in a deep green gown trimmed with silver and inlaid with real jade in the decoration on the chest. Her fur was gold in the firelight though in the daylight it was actually quite pale. Easily her most distinguishable feature were the large violet wings framing her body ethereal, making clear her status and position. Her breed was rare and highly sought-after in the courts for their arcane skills, though the common folk feared her breed, believing them to be dealers with demons. Magic was only good to the people who could afford it, a terribly frightful prospect. Moving to stand before the fire she cracked her knuckles, sending white sparks down to the floor where her fingers twitched. At a flick of her tail, several heavy bags finished packing and fastening themselves before coming to rest beside her bed. A twitch of her ear sent her letter through the open window, winging its way to her kin in the east; her cousin would be quite surprised when her expected guest turned up unexpectedly, but that was simply how the circumstances were going to play out. After all, one cannot fully anticipate when the strongest family in the region will fall to their unhappy peasants. Frail arms were crossed, leaning on the windowsill as the cool spring wind played with her ears and wings, the smell of summer on the air. It seemed always to be in the spring when this sort of thing happened, always the summer when she returned to the home of her cousin to spend the season in games. The endless days and nights in the kingdom of her kin were her most favorite of the year, even more so than the winter celebrations. Her mother said she wasn't suited for the winter; she was entirely too frail. It was just as well that she should end her stay here in the mountains. Fyora knew the Huza family had been more than generous with her upkeep and salary, but this highland life was far too cold and dark for a summer creature like her. She needed the sun all of the time, not just a few months out of the year and only when out in the garden; it didn't seem any of the windows of this place faced west. She was jolted from her thoughts by a cacophony that sounded as though the mob had made its way to her chambers at last. When the door burst open to reveal angry villagers decked out in everything from torches to pitchforks to anger etched on every face, she did not move from her place at the -blocked- Obviously they were expecting something that she did not fit, and soon they were all quiet and staring, confused, wondering what the "witch" was going to do. Certainly she did not assume the typical image of a sorceress, ugly and haggard. She was actually quite beautiful in an unearthly way, her features more accented, her eyes set deeper, her lips with a more perfect curve, her steps with a more perfect grace. Smoothing the wrinkles from the front of her dress, she turned around to face them, hands at her sides. Unblinking eyes stared right back, and the toughest of them seemed to falter, especially when a slow, deep smile spread across her face. The fire popped and sputtered in the silence, broken only when she cracked her knuckles... |

Hello again. So that's my style. I prefer to role play in a past setting as opposed to a more modern time. I do role play modern settings with some of my pets, but the abundance of scene pets has severely put me off. To be honest, I'd rather deal with medieval damsels in distress than punk rock princesses with emo complexes. I also prefer to role play furry anthro in lieu of quad; there are only so many ways to play out a forest scene and none of them hold my interest for very long. I feel anthro is so much more flexible, with the opposable thumbs and all. Avi's character, if you noticed, was slightly modeled off the Lothlórien elves from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series. She is a faerie noble, and being such her magic is in great demand by the non-magic nobility for powers such as divining the future, magical cures for otherwise icky illnesses, and devising battle strategy against opposing nobility. As indicated, Avi has been the guest of many host families, but some sort of disaster always strikes in the spring that sends her home to the palace of her kin in an uncharted valley, where she spends the summer. Summer is, after all, the best time for continuous festivals. As faeries are ancient, I plan to entwine her story somehow with that of my demon, Brudowyn, though I do not plan to make him her love interest. Her magic is intrinsic and required no book-learning, only honing and training by her tutors; I do feel pity for those poor, stupid townspeople who thought they could come after her. I heard that castle was decimated... My role playing does take place in Neopia...just not in necessarily defined places. I do prefer a fantasy land without modern civilization, and it's just so hard to imagine a place like New York as it was centuries ago. To expand a bit on what Atrae said, I'm twenty years young as of November twenty-second, and a sophomore in university. I have one younger brother, though he prefers another game to Neopets, and three or four close friends who might as well be my sisters. Sadly only one of them, Skayza, plays Neopets. I subscribe to the KISS theory, as you can tell by this application; oh, what's the KISS theory? Keep It Simple, Stupid. I find bells and whistles distracting, and I will admit that none of my pets have a petpage devoted to their story. All of them do, however, have lookups dedicated to their characters, with the exception of Sanjoir. He simply has a few links and a design on a makeable because I'm a bit stuck as to what to do with him. As soon as my current foster pet on that account changes color, I plan on labbing him in hopes of new inspiration. You can be assured that Avi will never be repainted or labbed, if simply for the fact that I do not have access to the lab on cuticles, where she will go. However, I feel that if I wanted a gelert of a different color, I wouldn't bother applying for her. Do you follow me? Excellent. In real life, I enjoy general things: reading, writing, 'rithmatic (not really. I don't care for math and am so glad to be done with it), listening to music of course, and hanging with friends. I also love to knit, cook, and obsess over my pets in real life. I've recently lost my betta fish, Raphael (yes, he was red), whom I'd had for a year and bawled so much you'd have thought I was a toddler who fell and hit her head. I was absolutely inconsolable. Those two pictures in the living room are examples of my "artistic" capabilities. I do not draw often, but I do enjoy drawing. I would enjoy it more, I think, if it were easier to get my art from paper to the computer. I know that that is the use of a Tablet, but I have other things on which to spend my money. I do have a dA account, but there is little to nothing there. However, if you should be so inclined to check it out, you may find me under the name gryffgurl88. The main reason I joined was to be able to watch my friend and ex-role play partner, Helen. My friend Skayza is an amazing artist, and she was so kind as to give me a picture of my lupe Rom for my birthday one year; the picture can be found on his petpage. As you've noticed, I do customize my pets. I prefer the items bought with Neocash, but I'm certainly not above using items bought with Neopoints. Avi would of course get her own background, but her customization would have to wait until my next Target trip when I could get another cash card with which to deck her out properly. I'm thinking the Rainbow Fountain background, but that's simply off the top of my head. ![]() Ooh, I think I hear our duo coming this way. I know you're disappointed that you didn't get to hear the bulk of the tour, but I'm not sure you'd have found the kitchen and garden to be all that interesting. Ahh, and there they are. I'll leave you back to them now and pick it up with you at the end of the tour. |
Now, this is the library," and indeed it was, walls covered in bookcases, though only the shelves at hand-level were filled. Rose is a frequent reader and fancies herself a writer as well. She can't possibly match up to her favorite authors, but bless her that doesn't stop her from trying. She is currently engaged in Don Quixote de la Mancha, but in English of course. Now these few books here are by Elliot and Jiménez, her favorite poets... The kougra, however, picked up a thick manuscript collecting dust on a small table near a typewriter. Thumbing through it, she noticed quite a bit of it was scratched out and edited, this moved here, that there. Flipping to the front she read: I was born to a mother who never spoke of her family, and as she was my world, I tried my best not to cross her by asking. Now understand that this was a long, long time ago, before I looked as I do now. I was normal once upon a time. Anyway, my mother became lonely and since I had no father to speak of, she was free to pursue her fancies. We found at length, a tribe of sorts of brethren just living all to themselves in wooded areas, like these. My mother set her mind to winning the heart of their chief. It wasn't hard to do; he was older and had no mate. She bore him two sons and a daughter, my siblings, two of which won't acknowledge that my blood is half theirs. They took wholly to the role of tribe prince and princess. But the second eldest of them and I took to exploring. We discovered that our "family" was situated not so far from a small town. Pruve and I spent lots of time in that little village. Eventually, as he was the Romantic of his litter, he fell in love, or at least he thought he did. I don't remember much about her to be honest as I was more concerned with my own affairs. Apparently this little lady had another beau and he was the jealous type. I don't know how the fight began, but when I arrived, the two were circling and ere I stepped in, fisticuffs were thrown. I don't know, either, where Pruve got the knife, but after I moved and before I could pull one from the other, he'd killed him. The shouts of the female, which had guided me to the rumble to begin with, had also begun to draw more people from the village. I knew my brother was the weaker of us, at least in his head, and that he wouldn't survive on the run. So I took up the knife from the body and wiped the blood on my own clothes. When the villagers came to see the commotion and discovered myself in bloodied clothes and the body prone on the ground, I declared myself the murderer and fled. That was the last time I saw my brother, or any of my family for that matter. I wished to go and give my farewells to my mother, for I knew then that I would have to flee totally to escape the wrath of the townspeople, but in actuality she probably wouldn't have cared. She had her life and I had cast my lot into mine. I did not go back. That," said the grarrl with some unease, is a work in progress. Rose desired to write the biography of her first pet, Rom, as he was a jumpy stray before he came to live with us. They fight often...the story won't be finished anytime soon." Fascinating," the reporter said without interest, gently setting the pile of paper back down onto the table. Looking up, she spied what seemed to be the centerpiece of one of the empty shelves, a framed certificate. What's that? This," Atrae said, glad to be off the subject of that brutish lupe, is Rose's Neopian literary pride. As she spoke, her chest too seemed to swell, One of her stories was featured in the Neopian Times, Edition 318. The story is called Dream Pet and is the account of how Kenske the bori came to be in her family. I remember reading that," the reporter cut in, scribbling on her paper. I wasn't enthralled, and the ending was really rushed, but it was decent. If she got something else in there I might read it. Anything else? Er, ah," the grarrl was obviously flustered that her owner's prose had not impressed the reporter. Well actually I saved the library for last. I was hoping- That I'd be impressed with what you consider your owner's greatest talent, right," more scribbling, well if that's all you have to show me, I'll taking my leave. Which way is the door? |

And hello there once again, for the last time I'm afraid. Yes, as terribly depressing as it is, our time together must come to an end. An awfully short engagement it was, but I promise to think on you fondly in the spring, when the flowers are in bloom and the wind is warm on my face. I'll think of you when the perfume of lilies is on the air and I find myself in a sunny meadow with nothing but time. I'll think of you on summer nights at the waterside when I'm dipping my feet in the river and watching the fireflies- Ahem, well, perhaps I'm writing the wrong farewell; I have a closet penchant for the dramatic. Now it's time to give credit where credit is due. I'd like to thank the color black for donating its time to my background, the color red for my border, and the colors white, pink, green, blue, and yellow for my font. I'd also like to thank TNT and their brief HTML guide for teaching me how to make the lovely table which is the basis of this application. I told you I was a no-frills kind of person. I would also like to thank you for your time in reading this, and wish you the best in your decision of finding the lovely Raii a new home. |
