Everything was darkness. Total darkness. There was no sound; everything was silent as death. There was no feelings, emotions, or thoughts. There was only me, and my quiet existence, even though I was unaware of it.
For a time, I floated in this ether, without a single thought. I could not tell if a single second or a million years had passed.
And then with base thoughts and emotions... lust, anger, and yearning to escape.
I began to notice a presence... a swirling darkness around my feet, holding me, chaining me in this abyss. "Am I alone here?" I wondered. I pulled as hard as I could for years, or perhaps only in the time it takes to blink an eye. Suddenly the chains snapped... and I was free...
I felt myself falling through an endless distance, spinning, being pulled in all directions at once.
I found myself standing in a snowy forest. For the first time I could see, and hear. I turned around. There was a little frozen pool of ice. I peered into it and I saw myself for the first time.
I was a black kougra with strange glowing red stripes and markings. I had two tails, and my claws glowed as red as my stripes. My dark fur gleamed like polished ebony in the beginning sunset. Two scars crossed the bridge of my muzzle, and a third crossed my left eye.
I was free...
I flexed my claws experimentally, watching them move. I was unused to seeing myself. But now, here I was, no longer a dream floating in the ether, but a living demon. "What do I want?" I asked myself. "Now that I can accomplish my goals." My dark red eyes glinted as I thought for a few moments. "Power," I said out loud, and grinned evilly. Visions flashed in front of my eyes; cities being devoured by black and red flames, people manipulated and used by my cunning, and I reveled at the thought.
The thick clouds overhead unleashed a blizzard of snow as I dashed through the forest. Time to see what I could do.
Night had long since fallen when the trees parted to reveal a vast expanse of flat land. Across the plains to the south lay a gigantic cluster of homes and buildings. "So this is a city," I thought to myself. I stared at the buildings again. "I'm going to look out of place there. And I'm not going to pretend to be some mortal's pet!"
Suddenly, an unbidden black haze sprang up at my four paws and wove around my legs, rising until the darkness covered me like a shroud. When it finally dissipated, I looked at myself and grinned in satisfaction. I looked fairly human. I resembled an extremely pale thirteen-year-old teenager with red highlights in my hair. I was wearing a jet-black shirt and black pants. It was an almost perfect disguise. The only things that were inhuman were my two tails... and my red eyes. I scowled, then shook my head. It would have to do. I hid both my tails inside my pants. They weren't really noticeable. I looked toward the city again and smiled wolfishly. "You'd better look behind your back," I whispered to nobody. "Because I'm coming."
Without a second thought I sprinted down the expanse of meadows, heading for the city.
More coming soon. When I have time. Which is like, never. o_O
