All things are poison and nothing
is without poison. It is the dose that makes a thing a
poison. -Paracelsus, 16th century
alchemist.

Welcome to my petpage! I'm Arsenique, the
Darigan Aisha.
As you can probably deduce from my name, my hobby is the brewing of potions and poisons of all kinds. I'm only dabbling
in this field so far, but on this page, I would like to give a little overview about the various alchemical mixtures of
Neopia, and the talented neopians who make them.

Hmmm, since this is my petpage, I guess it would be polite to introduce me first, and tell you a little about me. So where
should I start?
|
~ MY STORY ~
|
| |
Probably with my color. I know, Darigan isn't the most popular of
all colors, and I know that most neopian pets would greatly prefer to be painted with one of the cuter colors, like "Baby" or
"Faerie".
But that never held much fascination for me. With my 38238 hours, I'm a fairly young neopet, and I was born in the time
between the Wars over Meridell. All of my childhood, I admired the Darigan soldiers and nobles that visited our little town,
their inky fur shimmering in the moonlight, their crimson eyes shining proudly. Contrary to common belief (some call it
propaganda), not all Darigans are evil. Some poor souls are twisted, hideous creatures, driven mad by the curse that lay upon
their land, but others were kind, noble spirits that endured patiently, and hoped for peace and prosperity to
return.
I've always been small as a child, and had some hard times with the bullies that are common in our rural area of Meridell.
One particularly unpleasant one, a burly skeith with a nasty temper, accompanied by two of his sidekicks, was especially keen
on showing their superiority.
They had seen me at the window, gazing longingly up to the floating citadel in the sky, and every day the reminded me of my
"wrong ways". Traitor! Coward! Darkling! We will show you what your Lord Darigan is worth!, they called, and, weak and without
friends as I was, there was nothing that I could do against them.
After one of these days, I was curled together in a dark corner of the town street, sobbing, feeling miserable and helpless.
Suddenly a shadow fell on me, and I looked up and froze. Before me stood, framed in the mouth of the alley, one of the most
impressive Darigan Aishas I've ever seen. Her fur was full and silky, her claws shimmered like onyx, and from her deep red
eyes shone with intelligence and willpower.
But the -disallowed_word-If not, try asking a few Faeries in Faerieland!)
Similiar to this, the alchemists use three additional concepts:
 | MERCURY , the "liquid
silver", fluid and cool, is a symbol for spirit and intellect. |
 | SULPHUR , burning and
hot, associated with air and fire, symbolizes the soul. |
 | SALT , always remaining,
unchanging and earthy, stands for the body. |
Alchemy was a secret and mystical work for a long time, and alchemists used symbols and codes like the ones above to make it
harder for strangers to understand. The symbols modern scientists use for the planets are derived of alchemical symbols, for
example.

There are several alchemists in Neopia, and in this chapter I would like give a small overview over the best known neopets in
this field of study. You'll probably have visited some of them already and sampled some of their brews!
 |
~ KAUVARA ~
Kauvara is probably the best known potion maker in the world, leading the traditional Magic Shop in Central Neopia. | She
seems to be a kind soul from the outside, but have you noticed that she doesn't only sell healing potions, but also
battledome weapons?
That's a clever way of keeping the demand up, if you ask me!
Trained by the Light Faeries in Faerieland, she was able to gain a lot of experience in her field, and now is able to
make such potent brews as the elusive Morphing Potions and her trademark, Kauvaras Potion!
 |
~ EDNA ~
Edna, the old witch in the Haunted Woods, is probably better known as a quest giver than an alchemist to most. | Even though her strange mixtures of magic and alchemy are not always successful,
she is quite creative in her recipes, which concentrate on charming and transforming neopets.
Sadly, she doesn't sell her creations to the general public,
but she is quite generous with spooky foods from her kitchen! |
 |
~ ILLUSEN ~
It is known that faeries have a knack for everything magical, and Illusen, the earth faerie of Meridell, is no exeption.
| |
She only gives out her mixtures to people who help with her quests, but her battledome potions use the power of nature to
combine damage and healing in a very useful way.
|
 |
~ JHUDORA ~
My personal idol, the talented Dark Faerie Jhudora. Ok, she might seem a little unfriendly at times...
| |
But her powerful and rare (Not to mention I like the color) potions which concentrate on dark spell effects are a worthy
reward for doing a few of her errands, don't you think?
|
 |
~ THE WATER FAERIE ~
And the third of the alchemistically inclined faeries, the mysterious inhabitant of the Healing Springs only known as the "Water Faerie".
| |
Hundreds of battledome-scarred neopets rely on her generous free healing each day, but nobody knows whether the useful brews
she gives out receive their powers from her skills, or the mystical water of the Healing Springs.
|
 |
~ KAYLA ~
The latest member in the club of successful alchemists is Kayla, one of the heroes that discovered Meridell | What she lacks in experience, she makes up in creativity and fervor, and the healing brews and battledome potions
she sells in her Shop can be quite
effective!
|
 |
~ DR. SLOTH ~
Probably better known in his function as evil mastermind plotting world domination, most people don't associate Sloth with
alchemy.
| |
But it is an open secret that the infamous Transmogrification potions are one of the inventions originating from his secret
factories, and they are very ... effective. And the fact that even Kauvara sells them speaks for itself, I guess...
|
 |
~ MR. LEER ~
Little is known about Mr. Leer, who is supposed to be holding a chair in Potion Making at the upcoming Neoschool.
| Did you notice that there are surprisingly many Zafaras working in this field? Anyway, I can't
wait to visit his class, sounds like an interesting subject at last!

Not satisfied with what you read here? Do you want to take a look at some other nice petpages?
~ LINKS ~
Here's my quilt, with pointers to the domains of other great neopians, if you have a nice patch for this,
just
drop my owner a neomail!

I took the following ones out of the quilt for some time, because the images were broken. If they work again, I'll put them
back in, if not, I'm afraid they'll get deleted.
And here's my own patch:
~ AWARDS ~

We all like to get awards, don't we?
Here's a little medal that I'd like to give out occasionaly to people with nice petpages that catch my eye! But I'm sorry, applications for the award are currently closed!
