Armyofvalhalla's Pterattack 2 Guide

Alright, I'm new at this making website thing and I've never made a guide before, so bear with me. (If you get too annoyed at something you can always neomail me at armyofvalhalla)
So, they finally updated pterattack. Some say the new one is better than the old, some say vice versa. I'm with the new is better side.
Pterattack is a game where you control the pteri (green dude that shoots something if you press space). You are set in a valley (if you hit them you lose a life), and your objective is to shoot as many pterodactyls and grarrls before you run out of lives. You start with three lives, but you get an extra life at 500, 1500, 3000, 5000, 7500 and 10500. (thanks to minka22 for the numbers)
There are four weapons in the new version. There are pros and cons to all of them. They can all be upgraded to level 4, however, if you switch weapons, you start at level 1 again. Also, every time you pick up a weapon powerup, you get 10 points, no matter what level or type.
| Type of shot | Ptershot | Pterball (Fireball) | Pterpod | Pterboom |
| Pros(Level 4) | rapid fire | covers a lot of area in front of Pteri, easy to aim | quick reload once shot hits | covers A LOT of area |
| Cons(level 4) | covers one little column, not a lot of damage | sometimes if one wave misses, it won't reload until that wave is off the screen | hard to aim, slow | if you shoot from bottom of the screen, the space above you is uncovered |
| My preferences (1=best, 4=worst) | 3 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
Here's the basics of the weapons. Everyone has different preferences, however, I use the Pterball to get over 3000 points, which I haven't been able to do with the others. One important thing to know about weapons is, once you decide which weapon you want, do not, I repeat DO NOT, get another weapon. This will just bring your weapon back to level one. At higher levels, if this happen, just quit, there's no chance to get your weapon back to level 4.
| Type of Enemy | Brown Ptero | Green ptero | Grarrl | Blue ptero | White ptero | Gold ptero | Red ptero |
| When they come (lvl) | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| Where they come | top of screen | top of screen | bottom of screen | top of screen | middle left of screen | top of screen | top of screen |
| Hits needed (Pterball level 1) | 1 | 2 | indestructable | 4 | unknown | unknown | unknown |
| Hits needed (Pterball level 4) | 1 | 1 | indestructable | 1(lvl 4,5); 2(lvl 6†) | 3 | 3 | 5 |
| Points per kill | 5 | 5 | 10/shot | 5 | 0 | 5 | 5 |
So here's the enemies that you will face in the game. Some enemies to be careful of are the white pteros, red pteros and grarrls. They will all most likely make you move or you will die. White usually makes u move up or down, Grarrls make you move left or right, and red also left or right. Sometimes they will appear all at the same time, often restricting your maneuverability. The thing to do with reds are to try and move aside, if you cant, get right in front of him and move back, so you shoot your weapons uber fast. Whites are a little harder to kill, because you will only be able to hit it once before it hits you. Grarrls are indestructable, but if you want to make it go away faster hit it at least once, and it will drop, albeit slowly. Also another thing to watch out for are other weapons. I find these to be the most dangerous things in the high levels, because once you get one, you wont kill fast enough to give yourself space. Avoid these even if it means losing a life.
One thing I learned while playing Pterattack, is the most effective way to kill high level pterodactyls is to go close enough so that all your shots hit that thing and quickly reload, while backing up all the time so you dont get smoked by the pterodactyl. It's hard to get used to in the beginning, especially when there seems to be so much to kill at one time. So here's another tip. At higher levels, don't worry about killing all the birds on the screen. Stick to one general area (right side is better because whites come from the left side.)
The best general area to stay in at high levels is on the right side, on the top half. This gives you enough space from Grarrls and white pteros to be able to have a chance to evade it. Make sure you aren't too close to the top, however, because you still need time to move your pteri down once red and gold pteros appear above you. I usually don't go for the white pteros and grarrls, just dodge it, however, since grarrls do give the most points, if he gets high enough and there arent too many pteros right beside him, I go under him and loose off three or four volleys of level 4 shots right into his butt...this gives like 100 points, but I rarely do it unless its a low level but I still managed to get level 4 weapons. I dont hit him before my level 4 weapon because he will give points, which will reduce the number of pteros i can kill before a harder level comes in.
