You hestitantly walk down the rickety wooden set of stair into the basement. The underground living space has been carpetted with fragments of leftover rugs and flooring. It's furnished sparsely with a single, well-loved sofa, a patched up punching bag that hangs from the ceiling, and a spacious corral for the family petpets. You walk past the little recreation area and approach a door on the far end of the room. You knock.
A flurry of clattering followed by a hasty, Just a minute! responds.
You wait a few moments, twiddling your thumbs.
The door opens and a redheaded, camouflage Aisha pokes her head out. The elbow joints of her black body armor whirr and buzz as she opens the door the rest of the way. Yeeees? she asks. The pixelated version of her eyes blinked on the Resistance Battle Visor that conceals the top half of her
face.
Uhhh... Hi, you stammer. You manage to introduce yourself, I'm Aneran.
The lithe Aisha seems amused as she replies, M' name's Aneran, but folks call me Annie. She waits for you to explain why you're standing outside her door.
You honestly have no clue why you're here. Curiosity, perhaps?
Ohhh! I get it! Annie suddenly laughs. This is one of those petpage things, right? I'm supposed to give you all this information about m'self, right?
You blink. Uh... yeeeah. You had actually been looking for the Family Album, but apparently it had been moved.
Well, c'mon in, I guess, Annie said, holding the door open for you. You look around the cozy little workshop. Tables with all sort of gadgets and gizmos line the wall to your right. A pair of socks are draped over a wooden stool. And the back wall is covered entirely with... some sort of shiny metal.
So what would you like to know first? Annie asks as she scoots over a chair for you.
You mumble a brief thanks and sit down. You think for a moment. Are you some sort of scientist?
Annie picks the pair of socks up off the chair and tosses them over her shoulder. I'm not really a 'scientist' persay, she muses, sitting down on the stool. Basically, I like to take things apart and see how they work.
You glance at a ceiling fan sprawled out on one of the tables -- or rather what's left of a ceiling fan. Silently, you admit that you probably could have figured that out yourself.
So how'd you get that armor? you ask next.
Her left earstalk twitched faintly. Weeeell... Annie chuckles softly, scratching behind one of her pointy, Wocky like ears. You know those Singrowlarity Farm things that were given out as prizes after the last war with Dr. Sloth?
You grinned. You certainly did remember. The Singrowlarity® Brand Singularity Farm for Kids was one of the more interesting toys that The Neopets Team "TNT" had developed.
Watch your singularities grow as they emit unspeakably high amounts of powerful radiation! the label proudly read.
Yeah, I remember those, you reply.
Weeell, I was trying to take as much of the casing off as I could without letting the singularities out, she began explaining sheepishly. Then the Huggy I was petpetsitting for a friend of my mom's jumped up on me. The screwdriver I was holding cracked the casing and the whole thing fell apart. It took the Defenders a whole week to get it all under control, and the doctors took two whole weeks to get me on my feet again. My vision is messed up, and I still can't move right without the armor. It's kind of like a Ruki's exoskeleton.
The whole thing sounded a little farfetched to you. How could the Defenders of Neopia, a collection of superheros, keep something like radiation in control? Still, there she was, wearing a suit of armor 24/7.
Will you ever get it off? you ask sympathetically.
Aneran shrugged. Probably. Not for a long time, though.
Oh, you mumble. That's kind of a bummer. Better change the subject.
Y'like sports? you question hopefully.
