Being born into privilege, certain things are expected of you.

You must always be well mannered, and your education, especially for a female, is one of your top priorities. I always thought it funny how girls were supposed to get better grades than boys but it was up to the men to rule the kingdom. There wasn't a lot of time to play, as a child. You're placed in a dress and expected to sit tight, look like a perfect little doll. I knew I was too headstrong from a very young age. A switch and no food for a day were usual punishments for tearing such a beautiful and expensive garment.

Princess to a kingdom in a land unknown to many of Neopia, I was born and raised there. My parents ruled in peace for many years, with only one war that I can remember, or try to forget. My sisters and brothers all were more interested in their crowns and politics than I, I'd have given such a title up if I could. However this was not acceptable, I was born royalty, and was to die as such.

I grew as all children do, finding my own daily routine to fit into. My older sister and I would take walks all through the castle, our favorite haunts around the 3rd courtyard where the knights were trained. Always the younger I would be forced to listen to my sister giggle and flirt, myself never interested in the battle, nor the boys who tripped over themselves to bow to a beautiful princess like her highness. Taking leave when I could, I'd silently find my way into one of the smaller towers, preferring a beautiful view over any other sight.

It was on a day such as this that I first caught sight of him. He was late, arriving for his first lesson he rode upon an old mare, his clothing tattered and ragged, his black hair shaggy, needing a cut. Leaning out of my favorite tower I watched him dismount and break for a run for the side entrance, his wings curiously tucked bedhind him. He stopped suddenly, seeing me out of the corner of his eye. Turning to gaze at me a slow smile broke upon his face, the fangs at the corner of his mouth in full view as he placed a hand across his stomach and the other across his back before taking a deep bow. Rolling my eyes I simply gave him a nod, however he kept his smile, turned and returned to his sprint for the door. I could hear the yells of the yardmaster from my post, a small smile turning at the corners of my lips.

For days on end this was the norm. I'd see him in the dining hall when my father would go inspect the recruits, or when watching the others train their sword skills. His bow was always deep and his eyes always on mine. At first I found his persistence annoying, usually turning up my nose at the gesture. It wasn't until I held his gaze when he returned to his full height that suddenly, things were different. His eyes were hard yet gentle, they said so many things about his soul, though I'd never heard his voice.

A time came when the neighboring kingdom wanted to take the lands from my father, force their taxes upon our people. The troops rallied and a war began. Now a young woman myself, my young, silent page had grown as well, now training to be a knight, enlisted in the battle. My sister was engaged to the captain of the guard, who lead the troops with my eldest brother. We stood out in my tower, watching them disappear into the breaking sunlight.

A massacre awaited them. So many lives lost, on both sides, for such a senseless war. Greed is a murderous trait. We won the battle, so I was told, but my heart wouldn't listen. My brothers body was brought back atop his steed, games and a festival done in his honor. I looked for my knights return, but he had none. The captain answered my unasked question with a shake of his head, and I was devistated.

A shell of myself for a long time, I didn't speak and I hardly ate. Though my absence went unnoticed by some, my mother began to become suspicious. Tired of my "moping", as she called it, she and my father decided I was to be sent to live with my aunt, the queen of Brightvale. A lady in waiting, training to someday be married to some nobleman who merely wants a beautiful face at his side.

It is here that I now reside, alone, aside from the company of the other ladies, their gossip and giggling ways of no interest to me. My only joy is in my daily ride to the ocean. On a clear day I get a glimpse of the castle on Roo Island, I hope to travel there someday. For now, I look after myself, and tend to my lady. She's kind enough, but I miss my home. My family.
