The Ultimate Petpet Rescue Guide
Get The Avatar Using These Tips

PETPET RESCUE-THE STORY

In Petpet Rescue, you play Samuel, a red Scorchio who is traveling through the mines to rescue Petpets in need from the hands of the evil villan, Gargrall the Grarrl, who has stranded the poor Petpets throughout the mine. Using your cunning skills and brave strategies, you must navigate through each of the levels in order to save the Petpets.

As you progress, the levels will become more dangerous, and the number of Petpets you need to rescue to move to the next mine will increase.

Avoiding the obstacles, you must do whatever it takes to free the Petpets, and become the top Petpet Rescuer!

The point of this guide is to give you helpful information as to how to achieve the avatar, NOT to get a trophy. However, these tips can be used to progress to the latter levels of the game, but that is not the intention, so if you're trying to get a trophy, this is not the guide for you.

To get the Petpet Rescue avatar, you need to get a score of 250+ in the game. Although it doesn't sound like much, it really is a lot, and it will take a lot of practice in order to get this score in 3 levels of the game. There are more, but only 3 levels need to be played in order to achieve the avatar. Following these simple tips given in my guide can help you get that game avatar you always wanted, but could never get!

BASIC CONTROLS

In Petpet Rescue, the only controls you have to use are the arrow keys. These keys can either guide you to frustration, or to an avatar/high score. They are your tools, your friends, your enemies.

To move Samuel up, press the up button, down is down, etc. You use all of the keys to retrieve the petpets and bring them to the starting door at the bottom. Its pretty self-explanetory. However, these keys can be used together.

A trick I have learned in my time playing Petpet Rescue is that moving diagonally is very, very useful. It can help you maneuver in between boulders, help you avoid stalactites, and hop mine carts.

Using the diagonal technique during the second level is crucial to not losing a life in the level so that you can use all 4 lives for the third level, which is quite difficult. The way the boulders move and the timing makes it difficult to get one clear shot between all 5 rows, so moving diagonally can help save time and can be a swift motion for moving back and forth while collecting Petpets. However, this is a difficult concept to master in the game. Its useful in the second level, but it can take a while to get it down. I accidentaly run into boulders all the time! Don't be discouraged if you don't make that quick movement up on the first time. Practice it, pressing up with your middle finger and then using your index and ring to move left and right, and after a while, you will get it down, I guarantee it!

MOVING THROUGH OBSTACLES

As stated in the previous section, learning the combinations of the controls can help you move through obstacles. In Petpet Rescue, there are three major obstacles to avoid, lava, stalactites, and boulders. Out of the three, the lava is the easiest to avoid, if you know how to use the controls swiftly to move from mine cart to mine cart. Each mine cart row has a different speed and a different frequency of mine carts in the row.

Each level has one or two big areas of land which contain a series of boulders to make your job of collecting Petpets more difficult. Each level's arrangement of the blocks are different, however. Each one has its set of 3-6 rows of boulders that are the same on both areas of land, or very similar. Moving through these boulders can prove a long and tedious duty and task, as the timing is not always beneficial for Samuel, and the openings in the rows aren't always big enough for one quick run in between. I suggest moving diagonally through the boulders in level 2, as mentioned in the previous section. Level 1 is not as difficult, the boulders move very slowly, and can easily provide paths in which to move between. Level 3 is difficult, and my method for moving between them will be in the next section, as it is crucial to master in order to get the avatar score of 250+.

Stalactites can be your worst nightmare if you are trying for the avatar. I have had stalactites pulverize the Scorchio, eliminating my final life and leaving me frustrated with a score of 235 or 245. There is no way to really avoid stalactites if you are on mine carts. The only real way to avoid them is to let them fall. You can see, on the top of the game screen, the row of stalactites, and the one's that will fall begin to shake. I suggest avoiding the area the stalactite is located in, and to try to not go on the mine carts until the stalactites have passed, because once on a mine cart, its difficult to hop to another one to avoid a stalactite because you usually have to move up or down, and in the path of the falling rock.

You have 99 seconds to rush through the cave and get the required amount of petpets in each level. You need to be able to get all of the petpets in the time allotted or you will lose one of your 4 lives. Mind the time as you you're your strategies, and make sure that you don't wait too long for opporitunities to pass through each set of obstacles! Time waits for no one, as they say!

TIPS FOR THE AVATAR

This is the part you've been waiting for, right? Well, hopefully you've read this guide fully, because there are tips in every sentence I wrote (for the most part). Maneuvering through the obstacles, mastering the controls, its all the basic foundation for getting the avatar in this game, and, potentially, a high score. There are no codes for a higher score in this game, so you need to rely on your skills only.

My first tip, and one that I know comes up in every single Petpet Rescue guide, is to get the gems. Seriously, they help. Gems can be located on either one of the two areas in each level, but in level 1 on the first area. The gem points are as follows, Pink/Purple - 5 Points, Blue - 10 Points, Green - 15 Points, and Red - 25 Points. These gems are oh-so helpful in boosting your score, and at the third level, they are vital in reaching 250!

Lose a life, then restart. It may be frustrating, believe me, I restarted tons of times, but honestly, the points needed in the third level to reach 250+ are very hard to get on one life. If you lose a life in level 1, restart. Level 1, after a lot of practice, can be finished in 20 seconds (not that hard) and should be a piece of cake. Level 2, on the other hand, can be a pain in the neck. If you lose more than one life on level 2, then restart. Level 3 is very, very difficult, and even 2 lives, its hard to get the points. I've done Level 1 and 2 perfect before, and died all 4 times on level 3, and got a score of 235, it was horrible. Don't let losing a life get to you, but you have to know when you should restart.

Restarting on the first level if you don't get 3 or 4 gems is also an option, but one I didn't use. Gems can be found on each of the three levels in a random amount, and I wouldn't restart on level 1 unless you lost a life.

I also recommend stopping before you get too frustrated or mad at the game. Petpet Rescue requires a lot of concentration, and if you're mad because you got so close to the avatar (as I was a lot), then go take the time to cool off before coming back and playing.

Practice! Its a cliche tip, but its true! In this game, each level has the same obstacles. The only thing different is the timing and frequency of the stalactites. In each level, the mine carts and the boulders move the same speed, the same pattern, it doesn't change. After you practice a while, you can work up a strategy to pass the level using what you know about the obstacles, because they don't change.

In addition to my movement techniques, I have found an easy way to navigate between the boulders on the third level. This may be very important in determining whether or not you will get the avatar, because at this point its all about getting those last few gems and Petpet or two to get the 250+ score. First, go forward, and follow the first row of boulders left, then, once the second set of boulders has an opening, go up and follow the boulders right, and wait for the opening between the 2 sets of 4 boulders in the third row. Then go up, and go to the second area of land, which, mind you, takes a lot of mine cart hopping to get to, and collect those gems. Then, get the petpets you need, and you should be well on your way to having the 250+ score needed for the avatar! See the images below for a look on how this strategy works.

DISCLAIMER

I suffered through 3 days of intense Petpet Rescue playing in order to gain the knowledge used in making this guide. I went through a lot of frustrating times missing the avatar score by a hair, and getting mad at the game, and fed up with it. I spent the time to go and type out the tips I got from playing this game a lot, so I would appreciate it if you did not copy this guide or the coding in order to make your own guide. I spent about 3 hours making this guide, and any copiers of the content will be reported. Granted, some of the same information can be found in different guides, but that is because it is basic information. I created my own strategies explained in this guide, and any copying will not be tolerated. All images are copyrighted to Neopets. Thanks!
