You pull your kayak onto an island just north of Mystery Island, and don your Scuba gear. The tour guide said there was some beautiful tropical reefs and fishes in these water, and you could swim right up to the Maraquan Elephants. Strapping your mask on, you walk out into the water and dive down the drop a few feet out into the warm clear waters.

After a few minutes of playing with playful little aquatic petpets, you feel a sudden rush of current at your back and turn around.

Was that reef there before?

You swim towards the seaweed covered reef, wondering if it had died since none of the pollups moved for food, and no fish seemed to live in any of the crevices. You carefully grasp what looked like a rock and, spear ready for protection, pull it up.

To be staring at Rows of sharp teeth and a pink tongue and the inside of a long throat.

The reef suddenly turns into brillant colors, smoothing out to a silky and rubbery skin of an orca sized Draik. The water rumbles around you as you try to swim away, and a thin, haunting song, much like a humpback whale, turns into words, "No need to flee. I was only making sure you ment no harm...

You startle as the draik laughs, swimming close circles around you, "I am Alohuaki, the Wearybearer and Spirit Treader for my Pod." She eyes you, her blank eyes drawing you in, "Bearing the worries that weary my pod out can be tiring, but it's always nice to be visited by landwalkers... Care to visit my pod?

Without waiting for you to answer, she laughs, "I'll bring you back before dark. Don't worry, your safe with me." She then scoops you up in her webbed paws and places you on her long neck, the skin there turning bumpy in order to act as a seat, and you had no choice but to hold onto her as she swam north.

A minute later, you and Alohuaki reach a city crafted out of living coral and natural rock formations. She pokes her nose up, getting a gasp of air, and then she dips into the crevace the others were in. She makes a sweet, long note, making her skin vibrate, and grins, "Friends! We have a landwalker with us!

Her skin turns smooth under your hands again and you slip off without anything to hold onto, and she flashes colors, much like an Earth's Octopus, her lionfish like spines reaching out to gently caress her family, her eyes constantly blank though soft and gentle. She turns, and smiles, swimming back and bumping you towards the group gently with her mussle. They all squeek, checking you out, then grin, returning to their work and play.

The Merdrac's have welcomed you to their home, with the blessings of the Blind Shamaness..." She winks, not looking directly at you, "Also known as me..." She thens swims past, her mouth open slightly as she continues to echolocate to find her way around, "Not that eyesite means much in the water...

She claps her paws, and then swims up rapidly, leaping high out of the water, and diving back down gracefully, "Make yourself at home, and please explore.. Just don't leave the valley, since preditors sometimes tease the edge of our village...

She swims off, swirling around another one of her pod mates, as younger members, about the size of Floatsam, swim up to you, "Play! Swim with us Landwalker!

With a shrug, you grab their arms and glide through the water like a bird through the air, as they laugh merrily. There were no worries in this Tribe of Draiks. Food was plentiful, the waters warm, and there were no preditors... This was the life!

About the Merdracs

A merdrac is a medium sized aquatic dragon, about the size of an orca when fully grown, that is toxic when provoked, highly intelegent, friendly, playful, and highly intellegent. They have echolocation and the ability to change colors and textures. They are actually mammals, and give live birth, feeding their young milk. Their powers include being able to stun with sonar and they have control over the currents around them. Alone its minor, but as a pod they can calm seas and stir them up, offen affecting the weather above it. Its almost always calm, warm, and sunny where they live because of it. They also have the ability to make the water breathable to land dwellers down to 100 feet for short periods of time.

They have long necks, long mussles, a frill crown around their head, and frills down their back, tiped with little poisonous dart spines. Colors are usually vibrant and tropical, though since they live all over the waters, they can come in almost any shade. Usually thier skin is smooth, rubbery, and silky, with a thick layer of blubber underniegth. Different clans have different hand types, the most common being paws, digging claws with large, spade like nails, and gripping hands with talons. Their eyes have a secondary transperant lid that closes over like goggles to keep eyesight clear underwater, though they see mostly through echolocation, so their heads have a slight buldge to them, usually hidden by the frill.

A merdrac is sort of a grounds keeper for the ocean, keeping the balance right in the fragile ecosystems for the fish and vegitation. They also are a highly mystic breed, often used as healers and shamans. Part of the pod breaks away to harvest kelp and hunt fish, but usually raise it around their homes so they can leave the reefs to nature.

They also are guardians to sailors, the traveling pods usually following ships to make sure they stay safe but also cause no trouble. If a ship is known to cause destruction to nature, it will eventually find itself sunk as a makeshift reef and its crew are found scattered on islands with no memories but for giant, tenticled monsters with hard bumpy skin attacking, a guise they take in order to have their bodies safe from the spears and cannons, but also to keep themselves from being caught as the attackers.

People who encounter the Merdrac usually go away without a memory of them due to being able to manipulate their brainwaves with their echolocation, so all they have are pleasent dreams of sleeping on the beach all day. If they are seen as a trusted friend, then they will go away with a life time of memories and an invitation to return to play again.

About Manuwai

Manuwai is a wild Lionfish Gruslen that was adopted by Alohuaki as a cub, and eats the pests that sleep in her grassy bed. He's highly poisonous, but since the poison is the same sort the Merdracs have, Alohuaki can handle him without having to worry.

He's a slow moving and peaceful petpet, and has been known to only sting when when being attacked, and will eat out of the palm of your hand. He eats mostly aquatic petpetpets. Though he keeps a little hermit crab as a pet. He also has a rather large Pinchit friend named Kainalu.

Manuwai means "Water bird" and Kainalu translates into "Sea Wave
