Q: How did you get your avatar?
A: First, let me say that the only reason I added this, is because I get asked at least four times a day. I got the I Saved Mystery Island! avatar 3 years ago, when I figured out the Mystery Island plot. The plot ended on November 18th, 2003, and 10,000 of these avatars were awarded. I suspect most of those 10,000 have been frozen and/or stopped playing entirely, as I have only seen ONE other person with it in the past year. Again, the plot ended 3 years ago. You cannot get this avatar anymore. *I hope this cuts down on the amount of NM I get on the subject.*

A: Every single game in the Luck/Chance category are just that. Luck and chance. Therefore, prizes are completely random. There is absolutely no trick, whatsoever. Proof:

Q: I was participating in an Open Challenge, and my score got me into one of the top three places to get a trophy, but my score didn't register for the Open Challenge that I would have won!!
A: I recently had this happen to me with Word Pyramid. I was playing against someone that had a score on the high score lists as 10999, so I figured if I beat that score, I'd win the 10,000np I'd bet against them. I ended up getting almost 13000 points, came in 8th place, got a trophy and everything... But my score didn't register for the win. I sent in a bug report and notified the person I was playing against, and the person I was playing against had had this happen as well. He informed me that it didn't work because my score was high enough to be reviewed by the staff. So, if your score is high enough to get a trophy from, you won't get to win the Open Challenge. There's nothing you can do about it, just play again and try to not be so good next time.

A: This will probably result in your permanent vacation in Iceland.
1) Asking for the answer to ANYthing, or for vital information that will lead to your figuring it out "on your own", such as "whats the equation look like?" or "Is the picture from somewhere in Faerieland?" is considered CHEATING, and will more than likely result in suspension or freezing.

Q: I can't get flash games to work on my computer, how do I make NP?
A: You can invest in the stock market and restock in shops, and play the non-flash games, like Pyramids, Bilge Dice, Sakhmet Solitaire, Scarab 21, Cheat!, Go! Go! Go!, and other things like that. Other than that, good luck, and don't beg for free things. If you really want to play the flash games, as they're the quickest to make NP on, I suggest you download the Macromedia Flashplayer. There should be a notice that comes up when you open a flash game that tells you where to go to download it. It's rather quick, free, and painless. Of course, ask your parents before downloading anything.

Q: How do I find out how much my painted petpet costs?
A: Painted petpet costs are exactly the same as, if not less than what you paid to paint the petpet in the first place. So take the price of the plain petpet, and add the cost of the petpet paintbrush to it. That's the cost of your painted petpet. Keep in mind though, they are EXTREMELY hard to sell, unless they're petpets that are in very high demand, like Faellies, Gallions, etc.

Q: I tried to use a morphing potion on my pet, but it didn't work!!
A: The only reason a morphing potion wouldn't work on your pet is if the morphing potion was the same species as your pet. ie: You can't use a Red Pteri Morphing Potion on a Yellow Pteri, but you can use it on a Green Kyrii. If you want to paint your pet, buy a paint brush.

A: Look in the shop wizard. If it's not there, it's an unbuyable (worth over 99,999np. Items over 99,999 cannot be sold in stores.) and will be in the trading post. Unless it's very, very, very expensive.

A: TNT has made it impossible for anyone under 4 months to adopt a lot of painted pets, to make it fair for the older, more established accounts. A: You have to have all 9 pieces of the regular Lab Ray before you can use the petpet lab map. The Lab Ray costs 550,000-600,000np, unless you find some of the pieces randomly around the site.

A: It raises and lowers your pet's statistics (strength, defense, HP, level, etc), can change the pet's species and color, and can change them to avatar pets. Thus saving you billions of NP in paintbrush costs.

Q: Who is Boochi, and why does everyone talk about him?
A: Boochi is an evil Baby Bruce that carries around a ray gun zapping poor, defenseless pets, turning them into Babies. Some wish for him to show up, but others, that either don't like baby pets, or have already painted their pets more expensive colors, loathe the beast. Boochi comes as a Random Event, therefore you cannot do anything to better your chances of him showing up. It's Random for a reason.

Q: How do I get the Rainbow Fountain to work?
A: The Fountain Faerie has quests, like the rest of the faeries (except Jhuidah and the Battle and Negg Faeries). You know how the Faerie Queen, Water Faerie, Fire Faerie, etc, come in Random Events to ask for an item? The Fountain Faerie does the same thing, only her quests are far more rare. You have to wait for her to come to you, and there is nothing you can do to make her appear faster.

Q: How do I make a screenie?
A: You push "Prt Scrn" on your keyboard, then go to MSPaint (or your favorite graphics program), paste the image into a new file, crop, etc, then save. Then you upload your image to a server. I suggest imageshack.us instead of Photobucket because it has no bandwidth restrictions (this causes images to disappear if too many people view them). Plus, you don't have to sign up for anything, therefore, no login info to remember, and the uploading is way faster. (I vouch for imageshack 100%. ALL of my graphics that I use are hosted by them and have been for about two years now.)

Q: How did you get the screenies on your Cybunny's petpage to move?
A: I get asked this SO often, you have no idea. There is an answer to this ON that page, in the Fanmail section, but I'll answer it here as well. I made my screenies move using Adobe ImageReady 7.0. They are gif files I made using the Animation and Layers tools, as well as setting the timing on each frame. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it. The hardest part is making them move slow enough to let people read them, but not so slowly that it becomes boring and people don't know when it ends.

Q: Are there any rules for screenies?
A: Yes actually, there are. The same rules that pertain to the rest of Neopets pertains to screencaptures.

Always remember to remove peoples screennames, especially if you're using them in a humorous fashion, as it's considered harassment. If someone gives you permission to leave their username up, you aren't required to delete it.

If you took a screencapture of someone saying something that is OBVIOUSLY breaking the rules, then I suggest you delete it immediately, because it can get you frozen as well. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone take a screenie of someone saying something completely inappropriate and put it on their petpage.

Watch your language! There are quite a few words and symbols that are not allowed to be used anywhere on the site, including profanity, insults, and anything of a religious nature. Just because there are no chat filters on your screenies, doesn't mean you aren't breaking the rules.

Q: How do I change my avatar/font/signature?
A: Chat Preferences. You can get there by clicking 'Chat', then 'Chat Preferences' at the top, or while you're in a chat, scroll all the way to the bottom of the board and click 'Chat Preferences' there.

A: You can only use fonts that consist of a single word, such as Arial, Tahoma, Fantasy (which I suggest you do not use.) and Courier, Verdana, etc. Times New Roman does not work anymore.

Q: Why shouldn't I use the Fantasy font?
A: I suggest you do not use Fantasy, due to recent developments, we've found out that it causes the Fantasy font to show up as a random TTF font from your computer. Jokerman, Papyrus, Blackadder and the like, even if the font is more than one word. It also shows up a different font in different browsers. It's the weirdest anomaly I've come across in all my years, honestly. But because of this problem, your font may not show up legibly to all users. In my case, it shows up as a bunch of musical notes. It's extremely annoying.

A: You use graphics (computer images), HTML and/or CSS (coding, makes things appear the way you want them to), and lots of patience. Offering a reward for someone doing it for you will get you suspended or frozen. DO NOT ask for codes (except really easy ones) on the chat, because codes do not show up in chat. It took me 8 years to learn my fair share of coding, and I will not, and most other people will not, and cannot teach you all you need to know in a neomail.

Q: Can I use the source code from someone's lookup to create my own?
A: If you just want to get one specific code, i.e. the code they used to delete their sidebar, yes you can. If you want to take most of the code and just change a couple of things like the background and font color, no. That counts as stealing and you will be frozen if caught. And you WILL be caught, I assure you of that.

Q: What all can I change on my lookup?
A: You cannot, by rule, cover any information on your lookup. You can however make a fake lookup on top, then have your real information on the bottom of the page. You cannot cover your stats OR remove the navigation links. You CAN replace them with a new image map but you must provide them.

Q: Where can I find premade lookups?
A: I will only refer to petpages with premades, though I do not condone their use. I'm particularly bias, because people spend a lot of time making layouts, and learning coding by themselves. I will spend a LOT of time helping people will coding problems, specifically to keep them from using premades. I can't help it, it just irritates me greatly to see people being so uncreative. By the way, don't bother going to any chat boards asking people to rate your premade lookup. They WILL know it's premade, and you'll generally always get a 0 or 1 and tell you to make your own.

Q: Will you teach me HTML/CSS? I want to make my own.
A: I think it's WONDERFUL that you want to learn how to code for yourself. However, asking this question on the Neoboards or in Neomail is rather useless, because it can take years to master different techniques. I've dabbled in graphics and coding for nigh on a decade now, self taught, therefore asking for everything you need to know to code on Neopets is slightly ridiculous, and a lot of coders get rather irritated with the question. Don't take it personally, but we can only help you with certain problems, and most of the time only if you really know what you're talking about. Asking for certain codes is ok, like how to make a text area, but full on layout coding, you'll have to learn for yourself. First off, most everyone writes their codes in Wordpad, then copies and pastes into the edit page to update their site. To learn more about CSS and HTML though, I suggest you look up tutorials on google. There are some very comprehensive ones, if you start with "Beginner HTML Guide". Don't get discouraged if you can't remember the precise code for something. I personally have to go back every once in a while to refresh myself on the exact wordings of some things. Just remember to be patient, and my sincere good luck.

Q: How do I raise my pet's hp/strength/defense, etc?
A: 1) You train your pet. Either at the Training School on Mystery Island, or at the Swashbuckler's Academy on Krawk Island. The Training School is faster (My pet takes three codestones, and four hours to complete), but codestones are more expensive than dubloons, especially since Tarla released the 100 Dubloon Coins. Dubloons are used at the Academy, but classes take a LOT longer to complete there. Your stats usually only go up by one point, in either training school, but sometimes they go up two or three at a time, saving you thousands of NP. Hit points are upped by training Endurance.
2) Take your Battle pet to Coltzan's Shrine every day and hope for stat ups.
3) Random faerie quests (Faerie Queen, Fire, Water, Air and Darkness only) provide a stat up to a random pet when completed. To complete a faerie quest, I usually just click on the Shop Wiz, then click on the link the faerie gives you. But remember, the pet they choose to give a stat up to is random.
4) The Lab Ray gives random stat adjustments. Don't rely on it for your only source of training though, because it tends to lower defense way more often than raise it, thereby throwing your stats off kilter and resulting in a lot of losses in the Battledome. This is the reason I had to quit using my pet, i_will_sit_on_u as a battle pet, and now use Xongy.
5) If your pet is over level 250, you can go to the Ninja Training School on Mystery Island. That would take some serious dedication.

A: There are a few ways actually. The Wheel of Excitement, randomly when you land on the Dark Faerie she will raise the level of one Dark ability. It's random when she does this and it's also random which ability she picks. There's also a Radioactive Negg, which raises the level of a random ability. At this time (Nov. 5th, 2006) it costs around 200,000np.

A: 1) You can't talk about non-Neopets related issues on any chat board but NEWBIE or OTHER WORLDS.

Q: Do you believe in Jesus/God?
A: This is an extremely inappropriate subject for Neopets. Religion is strictly banned from the chat boards, guilds, as well as pet names, images in shops/lookups/petpages/petlookups etc, and usernames. You will more than likely be frozen if you do not comply. This is because, contrary to some people's thoughts, not everyone follows your same religion, and many wars have been fought over the subject. If you do rub your religious beliefs in someone else's face, you WILL DEFINITELY be frozen, as it is considered harassment.

A: First, absolutely no one gets hacked on Neopets. Hackers could do anything they wanted, including get into REAL banks and steal REAL money. They would never fiddle with your fake money/pixelized pets. Ever. You were SCAMMED either because

B: you gave out information willingly.
C: you left your account signed on in a public place.
Lastly, begging for free things will just get your NEW account frozen that much faster, so it really has no point, does it?

....giving gifts to Neofriends is certainly allowed! Birthdays, holidays, or "just because" gifts are quite fun to give and receive. What's not allowed is going on the boards and requesting that a user do or say something in order to "win" a prize or be given an item, or posting to ask who wants free items or Neopoints and the like. There are many scams that involve things like this (that we won't explain since we don't want to give people ideas), so we've had to ban them completely. Besides, if someone really wanted to give gifts to random people, there are tons of users posting and lots of usernames to choose from. There's no need for that person to post a board unless what they really want is the attention.

A: Again, strictly prohibited. This is called STEALING, even if someone willingly drew it for you. If you're going to win a contest and get prizes and trophies for something you didn't do, you're going to have them taken away, as well as your entire account. I don't care if you see other people that say their entries were in the BC and comissioned drawings--they're going to be suspended/frozen as well. Remember though, drawing on paper and scanning is not the ONLY method to drawing. A lot of people draw with their mouse, either in Microsoft Paint (comes with every computer, already installed) or Photoshop, Corel, or Painter Pro. I personally use a graphics tablet that I purchased, as I find it much easier to control a stylus shaped like a pen, than the mouse, even though it is a laser mouse.

Every once in a while, the blue button will flash yellow. If you click it really fast, you can get a random item from Tarla. She is the reason Icy Snowflakes are 20,000np now, instead of over 300,000np. She also caused the deflation of Pink Onas and Starry Paint Brushes. You have to click the button really fast though, before the giveaway is over.

Q: I fed my Pteri a Rotten Wormy Apple when it was dying, and it said "YES, WORMS" and all the sudden it was bloated. What's going on?
A: Well congratulations, you found an Easter egg on your own! Look at your Pteri. It's a bird. What do birds eat? ...Yeah, you get it.
1) When a Pteri eats anything with the word worm in it, it is automatically fully-fed.
2) If you feed a Kau a product with milk in the name, it becomes bloated automatically.
3) Kyriis get sick if they eat something with apple in the name.
4) Magic Ghost Marshmallows fully heal Ghost pets.
5) If a Skeith or Grarrl gets hungry, they randomly eat an item in your inventory (this is how Bony Grarrl Clubs disappear) if you visit the Quick Ref page. It only takes one item to make them bloated.

This is an old, extremely rare glitch. It's a dud pet. They can't feed it, play with it, pound it, put it in the NeoLodge, or anything else. It's just there. Don't report people for having 5 pets.

Q: How come I can't do anything on Lutari Island?
A: Lutari Island is specifically for Neopets Mobile users. To get Neopets Mobile, you must live in the United States and have certain cellphones. It costs $2.99 (plus internet fees charged by your contract) a month. This is the ONLY way to access the island. You can't do anything other than look at the island, covered by mist, and probably never will be able to, either. They previously only accepted Cingular users, but as of December 4th, 2006, T-Mobile will now be accepted.

Q: How do I get a Lutari?
A: If you sign up for Neopets Mobile and access Lutari Island, you can get a Lutari. They currently only come in the four basic colors, and cannot be painted. They can also be zapped by the Lab Ray, if you're lucky. But asking if people are pounding a Lutari will most likely result in your being laughed (and possibly frozen if it's obvious that you're trying to scam people into losing their pets.), because Lutaris cannot, I repeat CANNOT be pounded. They run away and never, ever come back. By the way, there are no Lutari Morphing Potions or Transmogrification Potions, or Magical Lutari Plushies, etc. Anyone that tries to tell you so is a liar, and probably a scammer.

Q: What is the Lutari Talisman for? Does everyone have one?
A: Yes, everyone has them. They aren't exactly a trophy, it's more of a way to power-up your account. There are only two ways to get them though. The beads come in (very rare) random events, for everyone, whether or not you have Neopets Mobile. Otherwise, you have to buy them. They're all over 150,000np (at this point in time). Q: What do the beads do?
A: The beads can increase random events (even the bad ones, mind you), give shop discounts in random stores, randomly give double game points, and some other powerups. All powerups are random to each bead, you can't just go buy the bead to get get more NP from games.

Q: How many accounts can you have?
A: Five accounts are allowed per single E-mail address. YOU CANNOT, however, make neopoints, do dailies, etc on ANY but one. The others can collect avatars and stamps and hold zapped pets and such, but are not allowed to make any money or do ANY dailies.
Also, if you only have four active accounts to your E-mail address, but have deactivated one account in the past, this still counts as having five and you will not be allowed to create another. This was stated in the editorial #270.

Q: Someone offered to lend me their pet, from a different account, but they didn't want me to E-mail them (or said I have to have MSN).
A: TNT has made it against the rules to give out your off-Neopets contact information, therefore, NEVER give out your E-mail address, MSN contact (as it IS your E-mail address), AIM or Yahoo usernames. I've experienced this first hand, actually. Quite a long time ago, someone sent me a Neomail saying they were interested in buying my Mootix (I was reselling, it's not the one that's attached to Xongy's petpet, Snipperly, for obvious reasons.) but that Neomail slowed his computer down. He asked me to E-mail him instead. I figured, ok, I want to get rid of this thing, so I E-mailed him. I never received a reply back from the E-mail address he told me to use, but instead, I got one from "tntwarning@****.com" instead, saying that the Neopets Team had received several reports saying that I had been using very foul language on the chat boards, and that if I didn't want my account to be frozen, that I needed to give them my full username, login information, all of my pets names, AND my pin number. Of course, the only thing I had been posting at all was that I was selling my Mootix, on the Trades board. I wrote them back telling them off, and gave the contact information to TNT, but because I was contact OFF of Neopets, they couldn't do anything about it. That guy's probably still around somewhere. REMEMBER: TNT WILL NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER CONTACT YOU ANYWHERE OTHER THAN YOUR NEOMAIL. BLOCK ANYONE THAT TELLS YOU TO CONTACT THEM ELSEWHERE AND REPORT THE MESSAGE.

Q: Somone told me to buy this fish for 1 million NP. They said it would turn any pet who ate it Maraquan. Should I buy it?
A: First of all, there is NO ITEM OTHER THAN MORPHING POTIONS AND PAINTBRUSHES that will paint your pet Maraquan. There are items such as Magical Krawk Plushies that will change your pet into a Krawk, but there is no such thing for Maraquan pets. This is a scam and should be reported immediately.

Q: I got an E-mail (on an off-site browser, such as msn) from TNT saying if I didn't give them my login info they would freeze me!!
A: Don't fret. It's a fake E-mail. I would, however, change my PW if I were you, as they can use your E-mail address to get your PW if they're really clever and you answer the wrong questions. DO report it to TNT though, telling them the username of the person whom you believe may have done it, and give them the E-mail address it came from, and any information that makes you suspect that specific person. Just block them, and add their E-mail address to your junk file, and you'll be ok. Just ignore them. And next time, DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS TO ANYONE.

A: Remember that even if you do log off, the cookies are saved in the browser. REMEMBER TO CLEAR YOUR HISTORY AFTER YOU LOG OFF!!
To do this, click Tools, Internet Options, then clear the Cache, History, and Cookies. THEN you're safe.

Q: Where do I get a petpetpet?
A: There are a lot of buyable ones in shops. You'll have to look on Neoitems to see all of their names, because they don't show up in the Neopets search. Since all petpetpets are found solely in random events (Something has happened! *petpet name* has a *petpetpet name* in its mouth.), most are rather expensive.

Q: How do I get a petpetpet to attach?
A: Have 48 junk items in your inventory, along with your petpetpet to make it very unlikely the Pant Devil or Grundo Commander will steal it. I say 48 instead of 49 because your inventory CAN be erased if you have more than 50 items. Kadoatie Feeders have this happen on occasion when a random event gives them an item and overloads their inventory. Remember to be patient. It can take days of constant refreshing to get it to actually attach. Luckily it only took me about 1 hour with my Mootix.
