Welcome
In a faraway land, there is a little village surrounded by solemn snow-capped mountains. The village has never been touched by modern technology. Gods, demons and deities populate the legends and folklore, and the people themselves are devout to their beliefs and stubborn in their convictions. Little do they know the deities they worship are no more; the powerful, wrathful and jealous gods died many, many years ago.
However, this is not to say they worship empty gods, for the deities are not completely gone from the world. There are remnants, shadows of the deities which still roam the earth as common animals—and yet not quite. These spirit deities are weak compared to their godly ancestors, and so are bound to a small region of land and take a physical appearance accordingly. For example, the spirit deity of a sea would be a dolphin, or a tuna, while the spirit deity of a desert would be a rattlesnake or a hawk. The only sure way to differentiate a spirit deity from a common animal is two small circles above their eyes which look like eyebrows.
But with the spread of modernization, even the spirit deities have been slowly dying off. Thus the remaining spirit deities are forced to crowd in the few pure and wild places remaining.
The village is one of the few such places, so deeply rooted in the nature-loving culture as it is. The surrounding forests and mountains are unblemished by technology, and so attract migrant spirit deities from all over the world. The increased appearance of these deities reinforce the village culture, and the villagers welcome them as signs of good luck, protection and fertility.
Like the humans who worship them, the spirit deities are deeply rooted in tradition and customs. Each has their own unique personality and strengths, and when trouble arises the spirit deities will often convene to decide what action to take.

The Spring Forest Spirit
Aldena takes the form of a spring forest spirit rabbit, small and fleeting in a world of snow. She represents youth, brief perfection, illusion, and impermanence. Rare to see in the forest, humans who catch a glimpse of her are said to have a lifetime of luck. She is extremely shy and prefers to be on her own, because other living beings scare her. In particular, Aldena fears civilization, despite the villagers' worship of her, and will take flight and the slightest whiff of smoke or human.
Embarrass
The one exception to this is a wolf spirit deity, Embarrass. Unexpectedly, he and Aldena are close, and they love to snuggle during blizzards when the temperature drops below zero. Embarrass, despite being a wolf, is gentle and loving, and loves being around others.
While Embarrass is also a spirit deity, he is not aware of his own nature, and believes himself to be a simple wolf. He is the original spirit deity of the wintry, mountainous land, and the villagers have worshiped him for decades as the protector of their village. Being a gentle, lonely soul, he was overjoyed at all the new spirit deities migrating to the area surrounding the village. However, the spirit deities fear humans, and Emb's close relationship with the villagers makes them fear and ignore him.
Although Aldena also fears humans, her native land has always been near Emb's, so she does trust him. When the forest in her native land was burned to the ground, she migrated to Emb's mountains, and is currently the only spirit deity that has a close relationship to him.
Tansy
When Aldena's native forest burned down, an interesting thing happened. Because of this traumatic event, Aldena's spirit became fractured, and the small part of her that had been adventurous and spontaneous became a small spirit deity in itself. This was Tansy.
Friendly, charming, courageous and outgoing, Tansy is all that remains of Aldena's old life in the forest. The two spirit deities are opposites of each other, yet unexpectedly get along well in spite of their differences. Or perhaps it is because of their differences, since deep down Aldena and Tansy are still the same being. Still, no one knows for sure, since such things are unheard of even among spirit deities.
