So what exactly is an item's ID number?
Each and every item released on Neopets has its own unique identification number. This number is used by Neopets to stock shops, award item prizes, and virtually anything else having to do with items. This way, the site can use a handy number, such as '21312', instead of dealing with the item name 'Pea Stuffed Pepper'.
Why does NeoItems need this ID number?
The database at Neoitems.net is ordered by an item's ID number. Since the very first item has ID 1 and the very latest released items are in the 30000s or 40000s, by using the item ID number to order items, it assumes reference to when an item was released in comparison to others. By obtaining the ID number, we can also verify that this item truly exists in Neopia.
How can I figure out an item's ID number?
The ID number can be obtained many ways. Here are the most common:
Your Gallery |
Your SDB |
Your Shop Stock |
Your Closet |
A Shop Restock |
User's Shop |
NC Mall Album |
What is the easiest way to get an ID number for an item?
At the moment, we think the easiest way is probably to use the Safety Deposit Box method.
If you have an item in your gallery, you can check the ID number for it searching for the item's entry in the source code. (Reminder: this only works if it is YOUR OWN gallery.)
input type='text' name=remove_qty_arr[23945] value='1' size='3Note: If you don't mind moving the item temporarily to your SDB, it is a lot easier to get an ID from your SDB than it is to scour through the source code.
If you have an item in your SDB, you can check the ID number for it by looking for the second set of digits in the URL found while mousing over the "Remove 1" link.
javascript:onClick=passPin(90,29428,'','');
If you have an item in your shop stock, you can check the ID number for it by looking for the remove_id digit in the URL (only if a "Remove One" link shows), or use the following method by viewing the source code.
view-source:http://www.neopets.com/market.phtml?type=your
2. Press Control and F at the same time to bring up a search box. Type in the name (or a portion of the name) of the item to find where it occurs in the HTML coding.
3. Look for the five digit number in the source that follows the item's description, looking like: back_to_inv[23874]
You can find ID numbers in your Closet by viewing the source code. Note that you can only get the ID numbers for non paint-brush clothing. (For example, Green Bruce Bowtie or Christmas Kougra Holly Decoration are ineligible because they are clothing items that come from a painted pet.)

During a restock, the item's ID number is found in the haggle URL that looks like:
http://www.neopets.com/haggle.phtml?obj_info_id=27754&stock_id=2836&g=3

In a user's shop where the item is for sale, the item ID can be found by hovering over the item, to reveal a URL similar to:
http://www.neopets.com/buy_item.phtml?owner=owner&obj_info_id=23945&g=1&xhs=42r1

You can find the ID numbers of NC Mall clothing items by viewing the NC Mall Album of someone who has purchased the item. (Note: The album must be set to public in order for you to view it. You can always view your own NC Mall Album of course!)
