:.The Species.:

Polypus Draconisimitor (rough translation: dragon mimics octopus) is a rare species of dragon that mimics the behavior and defense mechanisms of the Thaumoctopus mimicus, the Mimic Octopus. The species can be found near sandbars, or in fairly shallow water (the species has adapted to deep-sea environment in some parts of the world). Not all draconisimitor possess wings, but both male and female have a set of horns which molt and reach full length at maturity (20 years).
Like its inspiration, the Polypus Draconisimitor use chromatophores (pigment containing/light reflecting cells) to mimic its surroundings. This ability is used for defense as well as in the courtship the species performs every spring/early summer.
Besides possessing chromatophores, micro-muscles in the skin, and bioluminescent lights, the Polypus Draconisimitor also has a prehensile tentacle-like tail, upon which are fully functional suction-cups it can use to do things such as grasp objects or hang upside down. Some species have manes, others do not. All species are equipped with paws resembling more human hands than mammal paws, including opposible thumbs.
