Save A Name

You can reserve up to five names that you plan to use at some point in the future (e.g. to create on a specific day, perhaps) but do not want to use immediately. All this means is that I will remove your chosen names from A Gift For Life, thus lowering the chances of them being used by someone else.

To save a name, simply neomail me the name(s) you would like to reserve.

I return unused names to the site after two years.

More Name Sites

The status of these sites is up-to-date as of 16th July, '14.

I would like to list all sites of untaken petnames. Please do neomail me to have your site listed here, or to let me know of one. Thanks!

Status Key:

  • Blue: Last updated within two months.
  • Red: Last updated within six months.
  • Green: Last updated outside of six months.
  • Yellow: Last update unknown.

Limited Edition Neopets

Limited Edition (abbreviated to LE) is the term applied to nine species of Neopet that are not permanently available for creation in Create-a-Neopet. They are often (yet not always) released for creation in limited numbers on one day of the year, e.g. Poogles may be released on 19th September.

Tonu, Chomby, Lutari, Cybunny, Hissi, Koi, Kiko, Poogle and Jetsam are all Limited Edition. Draiks and Krawk are also not available in Create-a-Pet, but they are distinguished with the term Restricted. Draiks and Krawk are not released on their Pet Days (Draiks were released in the year they were first introduced and also accidentally in 2009, but not otherwise). They must be obtained through other means, such as hatching a Draik Eggs or taking a Krawk petpet to the Fungus Cave. Grundo are also unavailable through Create-a-Pet but they are permanently available from the Space Adoption Agency (although it says 'adoption' you are in fact creating a new Grundo).

All of the Neopets mentioned above can also be obtained by the use of Morphing or Transmogrification potions, though due to the species' Limited nature some of these potions can be expensive. Sometimes creating one on their Pet Day is a preferred option.

So, how does the release work? Firstly, although a Limited Edition pet is usually released on their Pet Day, it is not guaranteed. Below you will find an incomplete history of LE releases. The green plus signs link to entries of my blog where I go into more detail such as when the release started and how long it went on for.

Typically, the Neopet will be released in small batches throughout the day, though this doesn't always begin promptly after midnight (sometimes there is a wait of hours). Sometimes these batches will be often and large enough that the available total will build up and the species will appear to be continually available, making it easy to create one, while other times they may run out in between batches. If this happens then you could try refreshing Create-a-Pet periodically and/or try checking the Help Chat or another board for alerts that people might post when the species becomes available again. At the other extreme, sometimes the batches build up so much that the species remains available for an additional 24 hours after their official Day.

Tonu Day (21st Feb)

As well as becoming available on their day, Tonu are also released in smaller numbers most days of the year, at random times. The times may coincide with the Giant Omelette being gone, but this is not certain.

Species Popularity

Neopets's official Pet Popularity page is very interesting, but it has been tracking species popularity for so long that the numbers are massively accumulative; older species have a huge headstart on newer species. Plus it only counts Neopets created through the Create-a-Pet page, discluding the alternate methods such as Morphing and Transmogrification Potions, Draik Eggs and Krawk petpets. So I wanted to know: How accurate is it really?

In June 2013 and 2014 I've recorded the species of the names used from AGFL during that month. I always delayed by at least 24 hours after the name's creation, to allow time for people to use those alternate methods and transform their Neopet into the species they wanted. Below are the results, ordered first alphabetically and then by popularity.

June 2013, 405 names total

June 2014, 243 names total

6th May: (-128 names) I'm really sorry I didn't update yesterday. :( I had a cold, was feeling pretty rough and not up to dealing with the removal of 100+ names from Hissi Day. Everything's up to date today though.

4th May: (-8 names) Happy Hissi Day! Good luck if you're after one. Today I'm on the Help Chat bumping the untaken names topic (where you'll find info about the Hissi release and a list of untaken name sites). Come say hi? =]

3rd May: (-3 names) (+116 names) Massive name addition. All Fantasy names, I'm afraid. I expect I've said before about the Fantasy section being the most popular, but here's an illustration of how popular it is: Of the 24,563 names that have been used from AGFL, 65% (15,964) are Fantasy names. C:

2nd May: (-8 names) I'll be adding some new names (mostly, if not all, Fantasy) in tomorrow's update, in time for Hissi Day. C=

26th Apr: (-0 names) (+43 names) Wow... zero names taken yesterday? Is this because it's Cybunny Day tomorrow? =O

25th Apr: (-3 names) Only two days to Cybunny Day. C:

24th Apr: (-10 names) I had a look to see which names have been listed the longest. In the Fantasy section Miomakin, Tilomofifi, Kinilinik and Knighfors have been untaken since 2008! Poor unloved names. C;

23rd Apr: (-11 names) I've been through correcting a few errors in the site the last couple of days. Sometimes a used name gets accidentally left in, or a name that is still untaken gets accidentally removed. But now everything should be perfect. C=

22nd Apr: (-11 names) (+69 names) The new names are Fantasy, with a couple of Incorrections. AGFL is now affiliates with How The PC Is. C=

21st Apr: (-30 names)

19th Apr: (-8 names) Happy Lutari Day! Good luck if you're after one. Today I'm on the Help Chat bumping the untaken names topic (where you'll find info about the Lutari release and a list of name sites). Come say hi? =]

17th Apr: (-10 names) Only two days to Lutari Day~

16th Apr: (-7 names) (+56 names) The new names are all Multilingual RWs. =]

15th Apr: (-10 names) One of those ten names was the 24,000th name to be used from AGFL! C:

13th Apr: (-7 names) (+87 names) More new names~ These are Places in Italy. C:

12th Apr: (-10 names) (+73 names) Today's new names are half Combinations and half Incorrections. C:

11th Apr: (-8 names) (+154 names) Today's new names are half Fantasy and half English RW. I'm going to be doing quite a bit of name-making in the run up to what I call the 'busy season' for name sites: Lutari Day 19th Apr, Cybunny Day 27th Apr, Hissi Day 4th May, Koi Day 25th May.

10th Apr: (-5 names) (+34 names) The new names are contributions from Gabi100pitty. C:

9th Apr: (-8 names)

5th Apr: (-8 names)

4th Apr: (-10 names)

3rd Apr: (-8 names) (+61 names) Sixty-one new Fantasy names. C: Plus I checked the More Name Sites.

2nd Apr: (-7 names) All those 'foster' pets we saw yesterday are now back in the Pound. Why not do something different today and adopt instead of creating?

1st Apr: (-8 names) Watch out for pranks today. C: In the month of March, 286 names were taken from AGFL and 157 were added. That's unusually uneven, isn't it? Still, I added more in February.

31st Mar: (-8 names) My updates are now back to being at around 12:15 instead of 01:15, as the clocks where I live have gone forward an hour.

30th Mar: (-16 names) AGFL is up-to-date now. C=

29th Mar: I'm sorry I haven't checked the names since the 27th. I've got a cold/flu and really don't feel up to it. I'm sure I'll be back soon though. =]

27th Mar: (-9 names)

26th Mar: (-1 names)

25th Mar: (-7 names) (+62 names) I wrote a summary of Chomby Day over on my blog. There were 20,000 Chombies released for creation, only about 4,700 of which were created. =]
