Supplies
Hover over the image to see its name.
Most art starts on paper, so every artists needs a good sketch book.
Aedri's Tip: Lined paper is great for written notes, but not for final drawings.
Sketch out your ideas into your new sketchbook with a nifty pencil.
Aedri's Tip: You can use almost anything for rough sketches, but it helps to have something you can erase, like a pencil.
...Speaking of erasers.
Aedri's Tip: When you want to get it just right, one of these really come in handy.
Go over your pencil lines with ink.
Aedri's Tip: Don't forget to erase the pencil lines when you're done. Clean, dark lines give your piece a more finished and professional look.
Make your piece stand out with colors, but don't go outside the lines.
Aedri's Tip: In addition to color, shadows and highlights give your picture more depth and realness.
Keep it all together in a case or holder.
Aedri's Tip: Cases and tins not only protect your supplies, but make them easy to transport.

Even if you're not the best artist now, you can certainly look the part.

Where to Shop?
Back to School Shop-- This shop's name can be deceiving. Most common art supplies such as pencils, pens, paint, and sketchbooks can be found here.
Aedri's Tip: Often items at this shop can be overpriced. Be sure to haggle down the price with the friendly Blue Techo and check the price with the Shop Wizard.

Book Shop-- Find plenty of great books here such as "How-To" books or just something fun to read while you're waiting for the paint to dry.
Aedri's Tip: These magical books will disappear in a colorful puff of smoke when one of your Neopets read them, so you might want to buy multiple copies.

Toy Shop-- This shop sells a lovely array of Paint by Number sets, great for any new artist.
Aedri's Tip: If you play with some of these toys too much, they might break. A handy red bori on top of Terror Mountain might be able to help. |

Furniture Shop-- Those plain, empty walls in your Neohome getting boring? This shop sells hundreds of quality paintings and posters to decorate your walls.
Aedri's Tip: Another great style of artwork to put in your Neohome is Stained Glass. Find it at Brightvale Glaziers. |

Submit Your Art
Art Gallery-- Judges choose 12 Neopets-related pieces of art work to display. Winners receive 10,000 neopoints and a random rare item. It could be anything from a codestone to something worth millions of neopoints.
Aedri's Tip: Need inspiration? Look at the Calendar and draw something for an upcoming holiday or event.

Beauty Contest-- A weekly competition where you draw your own neopet and compete for votes from Neopets users.
Aedri's Tip:Competition in the Beauty Contest can be fierce, depending on the species, week, and alignment of the planets. Don't get discouraged if you don't win the first few times. |

Neopian Times-- Feeling witty? Draw a comic for the Neopian Times.
Aedri's Tip: Attract more people to read your comic by making a custom thumbnail. Make sure the dimensions are 150 by 150 pixels.

Chapter 1: Unique
Wandering around Neopia's Arts and Literature Centre in the Deep Catacombs one day I overheard two lupes talking about an interesting neopet. "It was so strange I had never seen anyone like her!" one of them said, "some uni that looked like a cross between rainbow and spotted." Rainbow and spotted? What could they mean?" I wondered. After asking around a bit on the boards I learned that she was a mysteriously colored uni named Aedriiana and she lived in an art studio in Faerieland on a cloud next to the Rainbow Fountain. It was late so I decided I would go see her the next day. When I finally found the uni named Aedriiana, I was surprised at what I saw. She appeared to just be an ordinary brown uni. Where were all the strange but beautiful marks I had heard so much about? Where was the pattern that some claimed resembled puzzle pieces or even blobs of jelly? Perhaps she wasn't who all those people had seen. "It's very windy out here why don't you come inside my studio and have a drink of something?" she offered. Why not, maybe she might know something about the puzzling uni."So what brings you here to my studio," she asked. I then told her about what I heard in the catacombs and NeoBoards. "Oh that. No don't worry you came to the right neopet. Perhaps I should tell you the whole story since you came all this way."
By now I was completely confused. Why would someone give up such a unique appearance for a relatively common one?
Well it wasn't by choice I can tell you that much." Then what happened? "It all started last summer...

I was working part time at the rainbow pool to earn some extra neopoints. You see the rainbow pool had a large stash of the Starter Paint Brushes you can get free in Newbie Packs. Since you can't buy or sell them they're pretty much worthless if you don't want to use them. So tons of people just toss them all in and around the Rainbow Pool. (The money tree will also occassionally toss next door over into the Rainbow Pool too.) Before I left that job I asked if I could take a few brushes home to paint with. What was their response? Take them all! Infact they're still sending me the darn things. I was able to paint my entire studio, countless canvases, and even ordinary items like neohome furniture. But it still wasn't enough. I felt empty, like I hadn't been able to express myself to the fullest. One day I was sitting by my window watching neopets come out of the Rainbow Fountain, all so happy that they had been painted such wonderful colors. Seeing all the painted pets gave me an idea. Why not use the Paint brushes for their original purpose and paint myself? If I just didn't cover all of me with one color then I would be able to make myself unique! I bought a bunch of Model Unis to practice on and develop my design."

But that still doesn't explain how you are now brown, I said.

Well there's an explanation for that as well. Several months after I painted myself this rainbow-spotted color *hands me a picture*, there was an accident. "What kind of accident, I inquired." You may notice that Jhundora lives just a few clouds away from here. One day there was a pair of frankly stupid neopets wandering around Jhundora's Cloud trying to see just how far they could push her. It wasn't long before Jhundora got very angry and zapped the two of them. One flew over into the faerie petpets shop and knocked some meekins and flouds out of their pens. The poor petpets were a bit shaken, but no one was badly hurt. The other was hit more directly by Jhundora and crashed through my window into the pile of starter paint brushes while I was painting. The paint brushes flew everywhere. The seven that hit me had mixed together into brown. Before I could scold him or even ask if he was alright, the troublesome techo had scampered off.

It's really not all that bad. I like being brown. In fact I've even had some tell me that I now resemble some strange creature from another planet called a horse! So cool, I look like an alien!
Chapter 2: Perfect Match
Being an artist, Aedriiana didn't want just any old petpet. She could always buy an unusual petpet, but the rare ones are so expensive. Perhaps she could paint one herself? But then again after the mixed paint incident...well you can probably understand why she shuddered at that thought. Aedriiana was puzzled. How could she have a unique petpet without spending a fortune or painting one? The answer to that question came later that afternoon, when her sister, Thyme, the pink xweetok came to visit. "I passing by the Money Tree yesterday and happened to pick up something," she explained as she gave Aedriiana a heavy box. "I thought that you would be able to make much better use of this than I could." After Thyme left Aedriiana opened the box her sister had given her. It was a big chunk of clay! At that moment you could almost see the light bulb appear over her head, blinding anyone within 20 miles and unlucky enough to be looking in her direction. (Hum wonder if that explains what happened in
Caption #682) After three long weeks of hard work molding it, Aedriiana finally had the unique petpet of her dreams!
Aedriiana now sells Clay Sculpture Sets in her studio, so Neopet artists everywhere can have their own special petpet! Isn't that nice of her?
