*~About Renaissance Pets~*
Last updated:1 September 2009
I finally went through and pruned the site, removing inactive, frozen or abandoned pets (which was nearly half of them). Our numbers have shrunk! Spread the word and join today!
Attention! Some of the neomails being sent to me seem to be deleted very quickly. If you send me a request and do not hear back from me within a week, please resend your request. Thank you!
Renaissance Pets is a pet listing created by myself, Ami (premise). It was inspired by an idea two of my dear friends had long ago. They have long since stopped playing Neopets, so I have decided to bring the idea to life.
If you are any sort of literate role player, you already know how hard it is to find others who match your standards. However, with a good thorough search, it is easy enough to find a fair number of pleasant and well-played modern pets.
But what of those of us who tire of such monotony? Where do you go if your pets simply don't fit into the urban chatty adolescent-dominated role play realm? There's an anthro Lupe wearing hoodies in VANS anywhere you look, but how often do you see a desert bandit or Victorian poet?
Renaissance Pets was formed to help bring together those of us who embrace ancient culture as an inspiration for our characters. Here you will find a list of pets dwelling in ancient stone castles, creaking wooden frigates, and palm-leaf beach huts. Each one here has access to settings that expand far beyond the usual, beyond sidewalk cafes and seaside parks. Every pet here is one who has been crafted artfully to dwell in a world no longer accessible through anything other than the imagination.
It is, of course, impossible to group all "old world" pets together into one category. There are so many wonderful possibilities for these precious characters that they must be grouped into similar regions or eras. Below are the classifications included so far.
Perhaps what most people think of when they hear Old World pets. This category includes any character that would be at home in an ornate stone castle, humble peasant farm, or the lush green woods of a prosperous dukedom. Here you will find your nobles, serfs, knights, bards, mages, and vagabonds.
-Fey-(Suggested by orosannin)
Does your pet feel most at home hiding in enchanted forests or dancing around maypoles? Any faerie or fey-touched pet who sports mystical powers or simply enjoys merry- and mischief-making will be at home here, with the elves, nymphs, sprites and faeries.
This applies to any pet of a post-medieval/renaissance era who is still heavily based on British culture. Anyone who feels at home in ornate townhouses, traverses by carraige across cobbled lamp-lit streets, or enjoys writing with quills by candelight will feel at home here, among the Elizabethan, Victorian, and Shakespearean-inspired pets.
This is the category for any pet based on Greek or Roman mythology. Any pet who dresses in togas, originates from mythical creatures, or dwells in the glittering city of Altador will go into this category. Here live the philosophers, mathemeticians, Greek-based gods and goddesses, and noble Roman soldiers.
-Pioneer-(Thanks sweet_hunka_hunka for the suggestion)
Is your pet at home under white covered wagons, windswept, dusty frontier towns, and the dimly lit smoky corners of old saloons? If so, they probably belong here, with the sheriffs, cowboys, gold miners, and outlaws.
Ah yes, the far east, a land rich with vibrant culture. Any pet who is based off of animes, enjoys moon cakes on a summer evening, lives in a quiet wood-and-paper dojo, or who marches through city squares with paper lanterns on New Years dwells here. This is the category for samurais, geishas, rice farmers, emperors and the like.
We all know how popular sharp-talkin', sea-lovin', eyepatch-wearin' scallywags are. This is the place to find them, whether they be lowly cabin boys dressed in rags or fearsome captains decorated with the jewelry of their victims. This is the place to look for deckswabbers, ship's captains, first mates, naval officers and stoweaways.
The shifting dunes and dry, cracking planes have long been a source of inspiration for anyone who loves the magic and mystery of the desert. Any pet inhabiting the many rooms of gold-domed palaces, the narrow alleys between flat-roofed adobe buildings, or the broad cactus-covered salt flats can be found here, amongst the sultans, pharaohs, street rats, thieves, and spirit guides.
Does your pets consider soft sandy beaches and torch-lit bamboo villages home? Or maybe they dance to festive music around fires and whisper mystical fortunes. If so, they belong here, on the tropical islands with exotic fruits, dangerous volcanoes, roaming caravans, and beautiful underwater caves. Here you find the witch-doctors, chieftans, and Gypsy-inspired pets.
Among the living who carry on the traditions of our predecessors lurk the immortal memories of beings who lived during those times. Any pet who feels at home in rotting abandoned factories or haunted Victorian mansions is placed here, with the spectres, zombies, ghosts, werepets and vampires.
For anyone who just doesn't seem to fit anywhere else, but still can't be categorized as modern.

*~Rules for Joining~*
Because we value individual creativity and -disallowed_word-and everything inbetween) are equally welcome.
Please choose the category under which you would like your pet to be shown. We leave it up to your discretion. If your pet simply doesn't fit in what we have to offer, feel free to suggest another category. If you think your pet fits in more than one, pick whichever you think is best.
When you have decided what pets you wish to have join, neomail eyrudite with this form:
Pet's full name:
RP Form: (anthro, quad, etc.)
Fill this out for every pet you wish to submit.
If you are rejected, please do not make a fuss about it. You are welcome to improve your characters and apply again at a later time.
Please note that this directory is updated frequently and very well maintained. If at any time your pet is abandoned or all content is taken from their lookup/petpage, that pet will be removed because we assume you no longer want them here. You are welcome to re-apply, but please keep this in mind.
Once you are accepted, you don't have to do much of anything. Your pets will be listed here for others to see. Your only obligation is to those who wish to RP with your characters. However, it would be highly appreciated if you would place a banner linking back here on the lookup of every pet listed, as well as anywhere else you'd like to put it. It helps to spread the word.
Members are listed in alphabetical order by species, then by name. You are welcome (and encouraged) to browse the listing to find potential role play partners for your pets. Remember, it is more effective to seek out others instead of waiting for you to come to them.
Here are a few avatars that go particularly well with our themes if you feel like showing a little extra Renaissance pride. (Note that there are many more than this that fit--I've simply chosen a few that I like best). To find out how to get these, search for their names on avatar.starried.net

Links will be coming that relate to each of our categories. Also, feel free to make your own if nothing you see here is to your liking! You are also welcome to submit links of your own which can be offered to others here. Do anything you can do spread the word!
