Welcome to my page.
When a life fades, the soul of that life is released from its fleshy
prison. For most souls they are able to cross over to the after life,
but there are a few that do not. Due to regret in life, or a tragic
death, those souls are trapped between the two worlds, forced to
wander the world not even realizing what has happened to them. Ever
heard a bump in the night, or seen a figure out the side of your eye
that is never there when you turn around? Those are the souls of the
lost. Trapped forever in nothingness, until they can find peace…
Prologe: Told by Thanos
It's not my place to tell those who have passed what has
occurred or for which they are bound to this world of shadows. They
must seek out the truth on their own. It is only after they find that
has which passed and correct that which has been wronged that they may
rest in peace. I am only a carrier and guardian of that soul during
that time. It is my duty to watch over that soul until he or she can
be carried over to the other side whether it be heaven or hell. But
this soul was different. The moment he passed on and into my watch he
realized what had come to pass. Though if he realized the events that
led to his untimely fate… I do not know. But you my friend I can tell
his tail to understand how this soul came to be and why he travels the
path he now walks.
Many years have passed since that day but those memories will never leave me. Those of the living world can not see or hear our whispers as we watch those who about to die. My presence remained unknown to those around him. But his blue eyes seemed to see me to the end as if knowing why I was there. His name was Acardis, A hansom young Draik in the prime of his life. It was in that prime that he would be struck down. He was a member of a prosperous clan that lived high in the mountains. A few years ago his mate had died in an accident leaving him with his only son. He loved this child very much and promised always to protect him for he was all that was left of his beloved. It was in the middle of a terrible winter that an epidemic broke out in the clan. A ravenous fever began to spread causing them to become ill and die within a few days. I saw many brethren come to carry the souls of the dead. The clan knew there was one way to save themselves. The canyon guardian draik that lived past the mountains in the lost desert were expert medicine makers. But the trip was dangerous in these winter storms and none were bold enough to go.
Twas not long before the fever took hold of the child. Acardis knew there was only one way to save him. It was on that day that he volunteered for the journey that he first saw me. As he took flight he glanced back and looked right at me. He never wavered or showed any fear as he looked into my eyes but instead took flight and began his long journey east. I knew his time was drawing near. For two days I followed him across the peaks and icy cliffs never stopping even to rest. Every now and then he would look back at me. As the sun began to set we reached the desert and saw the canyon where the draiks dwelled. The draiks were fast and provided him with an antidote. With the antidote in hand he took off more determined then ever. But that determination would only lead to disaster.
Within a day's flight of reaching the settlement a storm to rival all storms hit the mountains in his path. Blinding snow and whirling winds would have caused any other to land until it had passed. But with love and worry in his heart he continued on desperate to reach his sick child. He pressed on weakening from exhaustion never loosing focuses of his goal. The wind whipped around his wings causing him to strain all his strength to keep from being thrown around. But it was in that blinding snow that he failed to see how close to the ground he was. Before he had time to react a tree appeared out of the storm and smacked his wing in the branched causing him to spiral down to the snow covered ground. He laid there unmoving as Landed in the tree. Twas not yet time. Finally he lifted his head and slowly got to his feet. The wing that hit the tree lay limp to his side. He looked up to me as if expecting me to come for him. Without a word he turned and began to walk; his wing dragged in the snow. Even crippled he was not to give up so easy.
It was five days afterwards on a moon lit night that he reached his clan. But there were no warm welcome, no happy faces. The bodies of his clan members littered the ground. The air smelled of death. I watched from afar as he took off at a run with little strength left to where his son last lay. The child lay limp on his bed. Acardis horrified cries filled the night air. In desperation he gave the body the antidote but it was far too late for the child. He laid by the bed holding his sons hand until he succumbed to the fever. As he reached his end he looked to me and let out a weak laugh and took his final breath.
That my friend is how this poor soul came into my watch. Whether grief or regret that prevents him from finding peace I shall keep watch over him until that day comes.
A soft wind cooled the night of the full
moon. Its grey light lit the land in an eerie glow. A ghostly figure
stood atop a chapel overlooking the cemetery. It was an old decaying
place. The kind of place where not many dared to venture in the dark.
The creature's icy blue eyes watched the spirits of those recently
departed wander around their graves.
Thanos, my old friend, how long have we known each other" he spoke not moving from his perch. His hollow was voice directed to a large black raven that sat atop a dead tree that stood next to the chapel. Its withered branches created shadows on the graveyard giving it an even more haunted appearance. The bird opened its red eyes and stretched its wings before turning her gaze to the feathered draik.
Four years it has been since I came to your soul" She tilted her head in curiosity. "Why do you ask?"
I thought it had been longer. It's hard to tell how much time has passed in these endless nights. For these four years you have never left my side. How long do you intend on following me?"
Thanos took wing and landed without a sound on his shoulder. "I must follow the soul whom I am destined to watch over until that soul has found peace."
He shifted slightly as if uncomfortable of the thought. "And if I never find that peace?"
She lifted her head and looked into his eyes "Then I will follow you until your soul fades away to the darkness. Not even souls are eternal in this world of living. As time passes the souls who can not find their peace begin to fade away. You have seen them, the lights of souls that are faded and barley visible even to your eyes. They have forgotten themselves and know only the dark. Eventually they will be consumed by it and be nothing more. Acardis why is that you continue to stay. You know what has come to past of your death, and you were not wronged like many of these souls. They are bound by pain and regret of their former life and as such are trapped unknowing of what has come to pass."
He remained silent as if thinking it over before finally speaking. "I stay because I can not forgive myself. The memories of my life have faded to merely shadows of what they once were but I still remember that sorrow and of the promise I could not keep. I may have shed my mortal flesh but I still feel I that there is something I can do to help those of the living world. I have seen spirits interact with the living and been seen by others. There are times that if I try hard enough I can be seen my mortal eyes and even move objects. If I practice then maybe I too can do what those other are able to do." His voice seemed to fill up with life at the thought. "And maybe... if I stay long enough, I might find my son. At times I can almost feel his presence, as if he is by my side trying to call my name."
Is that why you follow stray spirits and aid them out of the dark? In the hopes that one is your son?"
That is part of the reason but I don't wish any other so suffer the fate I have suffered. I can't help all the souls but if I can save just a few from their wanderings then maybe I can find a little peace."
She sighed, preening her feathers "Then if that is what you wish I will do all I can to support you in hopes that you may find that peace."
The first light of day broke over the tree line and all was silent as they watched the souls drift around the graves. But the silence was suddenly broken by a woman's scream. A young girl, no older than 18, ran into the grave yard panting and dripping blood from a gash on her right arm. She took refuge behind one of the fresh graves. She was trembling in fear as two fierce middle aged men entered the gates. "Where did that brat go!" one grumbled. He had a grizzled appearance and his arms were covered in scars from many past fights. He had a look about him as if he relished the thought of a good chase. He held a bloody dagger in one hand.
The other was a bit younger and appeared nervous an obvious newcomer to the others line of work. "She must be hidin in here somewhere. There is no other way out. Common lets find her quick. This place gives me the creeps." The girl put her hands over her head. "Oh, daddy help me... Please… Please help me.." she whispered between sobs. One of the spirits circled round her as if wanting to help but she could not see it.
Well this is interesting" Thanos said as she watched the evens unfold below them. She could feel the muscles of Acardis shoulder tighten and his feathers begin to raise up as if he was enraged. With out a word he opened his wings causing thanos to take flight and as he glided down to the frightened girl. The spirit he could now see was her father who had recently been murdered. He sat next to her trying to protect her but his hands could not touch hers. He looked up to Acardis in desperation as he landed beside them. Acknowledging the man's plead he leaned down to the girls ear and whispered "Do not be afraid child, I will protect you." She pulled her hands down and looked up to him. Her eyes were wide in surprise but she didn't show any signs of fear of him. "Your father is here beside you now. I will stop these men. Stay here until I come back."
She nodded and watched him disappear towards the two men. They were completely unaware of Acardis's presence and continued to search around the graves. "You find anything yet Ray?" The older man called.
No, not yeeeTTT!!" He fell face first to the ground in mid sentence. Angry he looked up trying to see what caused his fall "Hey! You pushed me!" he yelled to his partner as he started to get up.
He huffed at the claim and yelled back. "No I did not! I'm not even close enough to touch you. Quit making up lies for your clumsiness" Before they could say another word the gate to the cemetery slammed shut with a loud clan. The two men jumped and turned their gaze back to the gate but could not see what caused the gate to close. The wind began to pick up around them causing the trees to sway and creek.
Ray looked around bewildered "Lance, we should just forget about the girl and get out of here. This place just ain't right" His voice trembled with fear.
What are ya, a baby? It's just the darn wind. You know our orders. We have to bring that brat back to the boss or he will have our necks. Why I was ever partnered up with a spineless yellow bellied coward like you, I'll never know." He grumbled and turned around to continue his search. His partnered reluctantly followed but stopped short unable to believe his eyes. Before them one of the unused grave stones floated in midair. Unable to speak he began poking his partners back to get his attention.
What do you…. WHAT THE!?" Lance roared before stopping short at the sight of the floating grave marker. Before the two could let out another sound the stone was sent hurling towards them. They leapt out of the way just as the grave stone came crashing to the ground where they were had just been standing. The grave yard came to life with movement. Rocks, bricks, sticks, planks, or just about anything that wasn't attached to the ground was flying around.
See! I told you something ain't right about this place" Ray exclaimed as they dove for cover behind one of the larger tombstones. They sat hiding and watching the mayhem around them when a shadow was cast down from above them. Fearful they looked up to see Acardis. His partly transparent cat like body was perched perfectly balanced on the stone above the two men. His tail flicked back and forth like a lion that was ready to pounce on his unsuspecting prey. They let out a scream as he reached down and picked them up to eye level by their shirts.
Bearing his teeth he let out a low growl "Get out and don't let me see you near that child again." He said in his most threatening voice before throwing them both with his massive paws right over the cemetery gate and onto a bush that was on the other side. They scrambled up and went running faster than Acardis had ever seen any human run, yelling the whole way.

My name is Aura but most know me as fatal_mantis. I'm a 21 year old
college student studying zoology and graphic arts. I've been a loyal
neopets player for nearly 4 years and I find it just as enjoyable as I
did when I first started. I currently have 5 accounts, Fatal_mantis;
which is my main; fatal_mantis2, Watership, Bamboo_shark and aquatic.
I've actually had 2 accounts frozen. Watership and Fatal_mantis2 were
hacked and frozen back in October. The person got into my accounts and
the neo frozen them before they did any harm. I never found out who it
was but thanks to the Neo and a few mails I was able to get them back.
Since then I have taken precautions to prevent any future problems.
I'm am a very active player, entering the Art Gallery, participating
in the plots and even entering the Neopian times every now and then.
You will often find me on one of my accounts working on a page or
updating a design. I've heard that I am one of the few people who
actually update pages and makes new layouts for them. As for Roll
playing, I'm not exactly a big roll player with other users. I prefer
to RP with close friends. In fact mindsend and I have been Rp our
draiks to create new ideas for our stories.
Over the years I have acquired a variety of different pets from Kougras to koi but my favorite species is and always has been the Draik. I find that I have the most fun designing and creating stories and characters for each of my Draiks. Being dragons they have no set way to draw them which allows me the most flexibility when designing characters. I suppose that's why I love them so much. Not because they're a rare pet but because of what I can do with their design.

It is said that ravens are the carriers of the souls of the
dead. Once a life has passed on it is their job to carry it over to
the other side. But if that soul is bound to this world the crow will
stay by its side until the soul is ready to pass on...
Shacar is a mystery to all those around her and to herself. She woke up one day on Mystery Island with out any memories of her past or how she got there. Her only clue was the ring around her tail that was inscribed with the name shacar. If that is her name or not still remains a mystery. Akansho rescued her and helped her adapt to her new home. Aura took them both in shortly after. She is one of the most well known of Aura's pets and is used in a large number of Her Art Gallery pictures and soon to be Neopian Times comic. Shacar's popularity has not affected her personality, she's still a fun loving kougra who loves nothing more than watching the snow fall with Akansho by her side.
Serraona
Serraona or as she is often called; Ser; is a Merdrac from the cost of mystery island. The Merdrac's are an ancient group of Draiks who over time lost their wings and evolved to live in the Sea. They are peaceful but very few in numbers. Most live in communities on coral flats off the cost or Mystery Island and in other tropical waters of the Oceans. Theirs is a carefree race, wild and free. The only threats they have are deterred by their powers of poisons and sonic stun, and camouflage. They come in varieties of different shapes and colors. The merdracs are a peaceful, playful species that don't mind being seen. Ser will play a major role in the development of Captayn.
Akansho
Akansho is a rarity even among kougras. He looks like a spotted kougra but his fur is grey/white. Because of his appearance he has been shun and ridiculed by many including the BC judges. He is a fun loving kougra who loves nothing more than spending time with shacar. Born in the icy peaks of Terror Mountain, Akansho has traveled all over Neopia searching for his true home. While visiting Mystery Island he met shacar who lay unconscious on the beach. You could say it was love at first site. With Shacar by his side he finally found his true home.
_inferno13
Inferno is a Canyon Guardian Draik, a species that is only found in the canyon of ages. They are an ancient breed who watches over the lands and deserts. Their magic keeps the rocks their brilliant colors of red, orange, and purples. Inferno is by all other Draik standards a mutant. He has 2 sets of eyes, an elongated face, his tail is twice the length of his body and is ended in a sharp blade. His coloration is similar to a Mountain king snake and like them he is not poisonous. Their coloration makes them almost invisible when they're against the canyon walls. although they are not poisonous they can flick their tail up over their back and defend themselves with the tail blade. The Canyon guardians Draiks are strictly vegetarians feeding on cacti. they have rows of sharp teeth used to cut the cacti into bite size peaces with out getting stuck by the sharp thorns.
Furroxe
Furroxe was once a prince of an entire kingdom and praised for his powers. His markings were that of a legendary hero that lived centuries ago and he was believed to be his reincarnation. His destiny was to become king and lead his people to a prosperous time. But ones destiny doesn't always turn out the way you think it will. Is family and kingdom were destroyed in the start of a war of humans and Draiks. Captured by the humans he was force d to be their weapon in the war destroying his own kind against his will. 20 years later he is finally freed thanks to a Draik name Captayn. In his dept he vows to help Captayn until his dept is replayed. Though his spirit was broken his new friendship to Captayn might just be what he needs to become the hero he was destined to be.
Kahlidah
Kahlidah, or Kahli as she is often called is the very first draik to exist. She was born when the world was new from the molten lava and hardening rock from the world's surface. She created the land and sea with the power of the volcanos. The volcanos are so hot that they fuse Hydrogen and Oxygen to for water and Ozone thus creating a livable world. Kahli has all the powers of the world since she is part of it. She has a violent temper and will act when things start getting out of hand in the world. But for the most part she stays dormant, hidden within her volcano, arising when the occasional tourist ventures too close
Captayn
Captayn was once a wayward prankster but with the discovery of the fabled Warriors Armor, his life changed drastically. Whether it's a hunter trying to catch him or one of his own clan tries to drown him it, trouble just seems to follow him. But he has the determination and the help of several friends to guide him down the path to his destiny. The start of his trouble they say was too blamed on the loss of his parents during the battle with Shage and his Rouge Draiks. He has never been one for sympathy or remorse and doesn't feel it's necessary to talk about his parents. He was always causing trouble whether it was causing pranks or getting in trouble around humans. He seemed like an unlikely hero, but he might just prove them all wrong.
