Tradigital
The artwork of Bookkeeper

Hello there, I'm Bookkeeper. This my little art gallery, every picture here was drawn by me. I call this page "tradigital" because it's a pretty good description of my art: some traditional, some digital, and some a mix of both.

For the uninitiated: traditional art is drawn on actual paper with pencils/markers/paints/what-have-you, digital art is drawn directly into the computer using a programs such as MS Paint/Photoshop/GIMP.

Not all of my art is on this page, just a few pieces that best represent my skill. For more of my art, look at some of my other petpages. Anyway, next up is the art! These are listed newest to oldest, so the more impressive stuff should be at the top of the page.

Questions and answers can be found at the bottom of the page.

Stargazing in Zero-G

May 9, 2013 - I was browsing around petpages when I found a thoughtful picture of a pet looking out of a spaceship. It inspired me to draw my own picture on the theme, featuring Hoolphal.

You should really try looking up digital speedpainting tips, especially if you're like me and your normal art process is: sketch, lineart, color, shading. This probably doesn't count as a speed painting, though. It took me three hours.

BEHOLD: Dr. Sloth on a pogo stick

December 22, 2012 - From the 572th issue of the Neopian Times:

I took it as a challenge. Fun fact: this is the first picture I ever got in the Neopets Art Gallery, you can see it by clicking here, but why bother when you can just see it on this page?

Neopian Steampunk

December 20, 2012 - I was so tempted to call this picture "Steampunk Holiday" because I was inspired to draw it while listening to the song "Steampunk Holiday" over and over.

Since it isn't actually a holiday-themed picture, though, I named it "Neopian Steampunk". Because it's my neopian pet Spyrideku, and he's wearing a steampunk (a.k.a. Moltaran) outfit. I'm so creative at naming this stuff, aren't I?

Grey New Year

December 18, 2012 - This is 100% Photoshop drawn for the 2013 (Neopian Year 15) New Year's edition of Neostars Magazine. My task: draw a grey pet's New Year. I like the contrast of gloom and celebration in the same picture, and this picture definitely leans to the Celebration side.

I actually started another "Grey pet's New Year" drawing with a gloomier feel, but it didn't have the subtle charm I was going for. So I stuck with this one.

Yum! Green Fruitcake!

December 8, 2012 - Yet another completely Photoshop picture. I love my new tablet soooo much. Here we have Dr. Xeelor (green), Hoolphal (brown), and Zippy (yellow), along with an Arlhox VII plushie. This picture was inspired by the December 8, 2012 advent calendar animation.

Winter Aisha

December 6, 2012 - Guess who? When I drew this picture of Hoolphal I was trying to mimic the feel of traditional art. It's made completely in Photoshop, except for the piece of paper I scanned for the texture.

Curious Devices

December 1, 2012 - This is Hoolphal again, but not my design for her. This is Hoolphal's original look, designed by Sai long before I adopted Hoolphal.

Toymaker

December 1, 2012 - It's been so long since I last drew Oupyr. I drew him holding some toys this time, since he's a toymaker and toy shop owner.

Maraquan Christmas

November 17, 2012 - This picture's theme is supposed to be "Maraquan Christmas" and while I think it turned out well, something bugs me about the color scheme... it's not christmas-ish enough. It drew it in Photoshop for the December 2012 issue of Neostars Magazine. And I thought I'd experiment again and try a lineless style for this picture.

This Beautiful Planet

October 18, 2012 - This is a picture of my alien Aisha Hoolphal, drawn 100% in MS Paint. It had been a while since I last used Paint, and I wanted to try again for old times sake.

Since this picture is so big, Photobucket automatically resizes it. To get an idea of what the original looks like, here's a cropped version:

Hoolphal

October 13, 2012 - I drew this picture of my Aisha Hoolphal in Photoshop with my new pressure sensitive tablet. Maybe I'll shade it someday, maybe not.

Ryadure's Lab

October 11, 2012 - I drew this picture of my Kacheek Ryadure to test my new pressure sensitive tablet. The original picture was a very messy sketch that I cleaned up, colored, and partially redrew in Photoshop.

Xweetok Day Banner

October 10, 2012 - This picture (drawn for the November 2012 edition of Neostars Magazine) is the first watercolor picture I ever painted of neopets. My favorite is the Xweetok on the far left.

Yessiree, folks! This is what a happy looks like.

Siblings: Nettie and Jack

October 1, 2012 - Here we have two of my pets, Netonbiti the Eyrie and Jackovy the Zafara. This picture is meant to contrast their two personalities as well as hint at the sinister forces they're fighting against. The art itself is drawn in pencil and colored in photoshop.

Haunted Mynci

September 29, 2012 - Drew this adorable Halloween Mynci for Neostars Magazine. I was asked to do this at the last-minute for the October 2012 edition, so I ended up staying up way too late that night, getting it just right. I drew this in pencil and colored it in Photoshop.

Building the Goyalbotnik

September 21, 2012 - This one's still a work-in-progress, and I'm really good at putting it off. Sometime I'm going to set aside a week or two and finally get this thing shaded.

Anyway. This here picture features AriShire, my steampunk Uni. The giant winged toaster in the background is a Goyalbotnik; a petpet made by combining a Goy, an Albot, and a Nik. This picture is being drawn with pencil and paper.

AriShire

September 12, 2012 - This picture was drawn in pencil and colored in Photoshop. Someone had recently suggested to me that I start redrawing my lineart completely in Photoshop, to make it look cleaner (apparently my fairly clean cell-shading clashed with my messy lines).

After reading that comment I spent some time sobbing in silent anguish ("All my years of work... wasted!"), but then it sparked an idea. If my mashup between digital and traditional art was that jarring, it just meant I hadn't found the right balance. This was my first attempt to change that, this time I put more work than usual into traditional portion.

The completely traditional version looks just as good, if not better:

Yuanaan's New Clothes

August 27, 2012 - -needs better description- Pencil on Bristol board, colored in Photoshop. Yuanaan the Wocky.

Turn in your Aisha Ears, Dr. Xeelor

August 8, 2012 - -needs better description- Pencil, colored in Photoshop. Dr. Xeelor the Aisha.

Alien Aishas

July 19, 2012 - -needs better description- Pencil, colored in Photoshop. Zippy and Dr. Xeelor the Aishas (not actually aliens).

Halloween Mynci Plushie Reject

July 14, 2012 - -needs better description- Pencil and paper. Banamein the Mynci, Yuanaan the Wocky, Silence the Ruki.

Netonbiti

April ??, 2012 - -needs better description- Pencil, colored in Photoshop. Netonbiti the Eyrie.

Oupyr's Study

November 10, 2010 - -needs better description- Lazy background. Photoshop. Oupyr the Xweetok.

Banamein

October 03, 2010 - -needs better description- Pencil, traced and colored Photoshop. Banamein the Mynci.

Ttayl: how it all began

April 16, 2010 - -needs better description- REALLY lazy background. Pencil, traced and colored Photoshop. Ttayl the lab-rat (pictured as a Poogle).

Questions & Answers

Do you take requests?/Can you draw ______ for me?
No.

I do however do art trades if I have enough time (I draw art for you, you draw art for me) - just ask!
What do you use to draw?
I use a lot of different things to draw. For my traditional art, I usually just use a pencil and paper to do the actual drawing. Of course, there are a few other things that are pretty important too...

...listening to music is a vital part of my drawing process, traditional or digital.

As for my digital art, I mostly use a Wacom Pen Tablet and Photoshop. When I draw in MS Paint, I use my mouse as much as -if not more than- my tablet, as there are several tools in Paint that are hard to use without a mouse.

What did your art look like when you were a newbie?

You don't want to know.

Hah, just kidding, I know you're all morbidly curious. View these at your own risk.
