How to Make a Shield

Change the color, and add a picture.

For this tutorial, you will need Gimp 2.6

1. First, copy and paste the blank shield above onto Gimp. Make sure it is 100x150 pixels.
2. After you have pasted it, use the fuzzy select tool, the one that looks like a magic wand, and select the background. Then go to Layers-Transparency-Add Alpha Channel.
3. Hit the "delete" button on your keyboard. Now your shield has a transparent background! If you prefer a colored background, you can fill the background with a color using the fill tool.
4. Okay, now right click-select-none. Nothing should be selected.
5. Go to Colors-Colorize. Play with the settings until you get the color you like. Click ok.
6. Now choose what ever picture you want, and copy it. Go to edit-paste as-new image.
7. Now set it to Alpha channel on the window that pops up. Make a transparent background. Now on the small window that says: Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo... it sould show the photo you chose. Click and drag it to your shield. Use the Move Tool to move it.
8. Right click on the layer that shows your picture. Click Merge Down

You now have your own shield!

How to Blend.

The Blend Effect

1. Go to the "How to Make a Shield" tutorial to learn how to colorize your shield.
2. Select the Blending tool.
3. On your tool bar, it shows to colors that have your current colors. Set the front color, or the Foreground/FG color to the second color you want your shield to have.
4. There should be a drop down menu. Set it to "Color." There should also show a box that shows what gradient you have selected. Click on it and choose the gradient that says, FG to Transparent. Check the box next to it.
5. Drag your mouse across the shield in the direction you want. This may take a few tries.

All done! Easy, right?
