The Painted and Rare Pets guide was the brianchild of Merlynshade, and was started over four years ago. TsukiiYoukai was the origional host, then Noyshe, then Wyckid, and finally the page has been passed to Xanjie. This page has gone under many, many different layout changes, updates and all-night recode-a-thons. Its has had already over 140 hours (with constant updates over a time span of 5+ years) put into work on it, so hopefully you will be able to find all the information that you need on painted and rare pets here.
Please note that this is a VERY large page and takes time and effort to maintain.
Please respect the work I have put into this page and DO NOT steal content from me. I made this page when I first joined Neopets, and take pride in the fact that it was the first in-depth guide of all methods of getting a pet when I created it. This page was created due to the lack of such a page that presented this information all together.
Please understand that it takes time to update the page with information-especially when it comes to updating prices of items-thus I do not often do this, and instead direct users to check current, daily prices at the Trading Post or Auction House. I have many petpages up and running-including ones on my side accounts-and each of them has a large amount of time dedicated to them-thus I may sometimes miss updates. Contact me if you see anything that needs to be changed on any of my pages (they are shown in the right toolbar).
Item and Pet lists are updated once or twice a week, if possible. I have a very demanding real life job, and many other petpages that I maintain. If there is a new potion out and it is not listed here, check the news for more current information.

Painted baby upon being created, then on 5/21/08... Painted Pirate with 4k FFQ. Painted Desert with pb.
|
Xanjie is my lucky pet, and as such I would NEVER put her, or any of my other pets up for adoption, save yourself the time and do not ask.
I call Xanjie my lucky pet because she was one I did not have to work a great deal for. Her egg was a heavy purchase, but as I won a paintbrush that I resold for over a million in the Art Gallery, that helped with her egg's price. Once hatched, I named Xanjie after a Neopets player that I greatly respect and consider one of my best Neofriends. Xan was painted baby for the longest time, and she acted as a Boochie shield, as at the time my only other pets were unconverted Darigans (some of whom have been moved to side accounts so that I may use my lab ray).
I consider winning the pb that I traded for her egg a very lucky win from the Art Gallery. When I received the cheap FFQ for her second paint job, that was another stroke of pure dumb luck. Her final PB was the result of selling various things found around the site.
As such, I consider her my lucky charm now a days. :)
To find out what Neopet Species can be painted what go here.
To find out what Petpet Species can be painted what go here.
Finding the right name for you and your neopet can be difficult, as there are so many players out there with pets already using names. A pet's name is one of the most important things about that pet. I have covered this topic in depth on Impose's petpage, as it will not all fit here. Be sure to check it out!
|
Something to Consider! A pet's NAME is the only thing about your pet that you cannot change at a later date. Be sure, if you are planning on spending a good deal of time or effort on a pet to make it into your dream pet, that you consider the name carefully. A 'good' pet's name is, ultimately, one that you like and will not get tired of later on down the road. Choose carefully. |

About:
Okay, lets get down to the basics. You want a painted or rare pet, else you wouldn't be here. I have painted a total of 30 pets within about 28 months. Thats a little over one painted pet a month (though now a days I paint pets fewer and fewer). How have I managed this? Here are some peices of advice:
1)Set a Goal.
Sounds easy but can be rather difficult. What do you want first? A painted pet? A rare pet? A high stat/battledome pet? You need to decide this before you start saving up. You can of course change your mind later on, but if you have a pet that you really, REALLY, want, stick with it and dont change your mind.
If you want a painted or rare pet, it doesn't matter how many neopets you have on your account. If you want a battledome pet, try to make it so that you only have one pet on your account. I say this because if you have just one pet it will be the only one to benefit from faerie quests that up stats. The more pets you have, the less likely the pet you want will get the stat boost (as faerie quests randomly choose which pet to bless after the quest (exception: Fountain Faerie will paint the pet that is active when you visit her)).
2)Save up.
Now you have gotten an idea of what pet you want, be it a rare, a painted, or a battledomer. Now comes the part that everyone has trouble with. SAVING!
There are many ways to earn neopoints! Indeed the game gives out so much it is rediculous to go begging for donations. Also asking for donations will not endear yourself to anyone. See the Earning NPS part of this guide. You can do it. If you play a small amount of games and earn 10K a day, thats roughly 280K a month.
3)Get the pet!
Once you have earned enough go for it! Buy the lab ray, paint brush, potion, plushie or whatever it is you need to get your pet. Good luck in your goals!
Some Saving Tips | Try to put about 10K a day into your bank account. Do not withdraw funds from your account at all. If you need to make a purchase go find some games to play and use the nps from them to buy what you are needing. With as much free food that the site gives out you do not need to purchase any. With the healing springs you don't need to buy expensive medicines for your pets when they get sick. A cheap toy is just as good as an expensive one when it comes to entertaining your pet. Do not get distracted from your goal! This is very important! Don't start saving for the lab ray and change your mind and buy a purple paintbrush once you hit 100K. This is why it is important that you pick a goal and stick with it. merlynshade wanted a draik when she started on the site. She would save diligently until she reached 600K and then would decide to give up and buy something else. She painted three baby pets, one fire and purchased the lab ray this way. Had she kept saving she would have had at least two draiks instead of pets that she eventually put on her side accounts. -.-U If you have something you desperatly want keep that goal in mind and don't give up. I promise you that if you work for it you can get any pet in neopia! |

About:
Ah earning neopoints is a lot easier than some people seem to think. Even if you cannot play flash games (let me say it now, not much of the meager earnings I have ever managed to make on games has ever gone towards me getting paintbrushes). I have painted many pets by doing a mixture of the following six things:
1) The Daily Rounds.
Dailies are considered to be activities on Neopets that you do every day. Each of them can earn (or lose) you Neopoints and can sometimes earn you items.
2) Restocking.
Restocking in essence is buying items from shops/trades/auctions and reselling them for a profit.
3) Rare Item Codes (RIC).
This is something that I do when I have the spare cash. I go out and buy a deck of Neopets Trading Cards. I save the cards for art reference and use the RIC. Also most Neopet merchandise has rare item codes on it, including the Keyquest plushies. When I have redeemed RICs, I have gotten from about 1000 to 100000 nps or items tat I can resell for Neopoints. The Keyquest codes when redeemed give you pawns for the KeyQuest Game.
4) The Stock Market.
The Stock Market is very much like the real world Stock Trades. You buy and sell 'stock' in Neopet 'Companies.' Buy low and sell high for a profit. The Stock Market can be tricky and can take a great deal of time, but it can give a large return (or loss).
5) Creative Contests.
The Creative Contests on Neopets sometimes give out very big rewards. The bulk of my funds come from these contests. If you participate in one that gives out a 'np and rare item' prize, you can sell whatever prize you will for a profit (sometimes big, sometimes small).
6)Games.
Games finally are an excellent, entertaining way of earning Neopoints. Even if you are not good at the games, you ultimately earn some points. :)

Paintbrushes are some of the most popular items on the website, so here is my first tip for you, do not go begging or asking people for one, that really tends to irritate them. People don't like it when they are asked to put aside the goals they are working towards (plus their own nps) for a stranger's goals (especially when the stranger is begging for things and not trying to earn them like others have).
Once you get a paintbrush, you can use it, trade it for a different paintbrush that you want, or sell it for a profit. Good luck if you go with the paintbrush way of getting a painted pet.

1) Purchase You can buy PBs from the Trading Post or the Shop Wizard (VERY RARE) with Neopoints that you have or trade an item of the same value for one. Or you can buy them from the Hidden Tower in Faerieland (Note that your account must be four months or older to visit the Tower). **Special Note for Purchasing/Trading: When you are purchasing a Paint Brush, make sure it is an actual Paint Brush. There are Paint Brush Plushies out in Neopia that are toys, not items that paint your pet. If it ENDS in 'Plushie'-it is a toy and not a Paint Brush. 2) Win From Dailies Pbs can be won from the Fruit Machine, the Wheel of Monotony, Tombola, Test Your Strength, and the Alien Vending Machine. Note however that it is random and RARE for these games to award PBs as prizes. 3) Random Events You can get PBs from random events (including Jacko the Phantom Painter giving you one), and by random I do mean random. I have been playing Neopets for over 5 years now, and have still not gotten a PB this way. 4) Rare Item Codes Get them from the rare item codes from neopet merchandise. I have gotten a green and a purple pb from older editions of the trading cards. 5) Refer to Neopets Refer a large number of people to neopets and have them sign up as players. *Note, do NOT go and create other accounts just yourself to get a pb, this is a good way to get yourself frozen and or IP banned from the site Each player is allowed a MAX of one main account and four gallery accounts ONLY. Be careful and get real players to sign up. Be aware that if you post your referral link somewhere on neopets, and if someone who is currently logged into an account already clicks it, the referral number is supposed to go back to 0. Neo changed it to stop cheating of the system. (Thanks for the info Helper!) 6) Open Your Newbie Pack Starter paintbrushes *may* come in a newbie pack when you join the site. Starter pbs cannot be sold or traded, and can only be used on your pets. 7) Refer to Premium Become a premium member, stay past the trial period and pay for the service (visit Leto's petpage for more info on Premium and go here for a list of players who can give you an invite to premium). Once that is done you will need to refer three players who stay past the trial period. TNT will then reward you with one of these: Snow, Electric Blue, Starry or Disco Fever Paint Brushes (your choice). This is costly (premium costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year) and takes effort (referring people who stay and pay can be hard). 8) Creative Contests Win them in site contests such as the Art Gallery, Poetry contest, etc. Prizes from these contests are random rare items. I have one petpets, petpet paint brushes, a Purble PB, a Halloween PB and a Lost Desert PB from the Art Gallery. 9) Plots Participate in a Neopian Plot when it is released. If you complete all the steps in the plot you *may* get a paint brush as a plot prize-that is if TNT includes them in the Plot Prize shop at the end of the plot. 10) World Challenge Complete a World Challenge map, which has 20 parts to a map. You may get a paint brush as a prize from the map. 11) Keyquest Play KeyQuest and redeem a gold key. It will randomly award a paintbrush. These are the only ways that I know of so far. If you know of another way neomail me. |

Some PB FAQs |
1) The most expensive paintbrushes are (in no certian order) Darigan, Maraquan, Pirate, Grey, Faerie, Camo, Royal, Plushie, Island, Lutari and Orange.
2)The cheapest Paintbrushes are those of the "starter colors" (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green). Then some of the cheaper colors are Christmas, Purple and Brown. 3)Retired paintbrushes can still be used on your neopet. Only paintbrushes of retired COLORS cannot be used. The only two retired colors on neo at the moment are Stone and Glass. 4)Not every color on neo comes from a paintbrush. Mutant is one. Also MSPP, Snot, Sponge, Jelly and the Robot color can only be obtained through the lab ray. All the chia-fruit/food colors can be obtained through the lab ray, chia pops or the Fountain Faerie. 5) You may hear of a 'Unicorn Paintbrush' or find a really old picture of a unicorn painted neopet. Unicorn paintbrushes did exsist at one time, but have since been removed from the site. They turned the pet white with a unicorn's horn. You cannot buy or use the unicorn pb anymore as it no longer exsists. There are no more neopets that are painted unicorn either. 6) Lutari Paintbrushes have made an appearance with the release of Lutari Island on Neopets Mobile. They are not yet usable, but players are selling/trading them in the trading post. 7) Visit The FULL Paintbrush List to see a list of all the Paint Brushes in Neopia. |

Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water A somewhat newer item to neopia that will randomly change your pets color, supposedly. I have not toyed with this too much to know alot about it though. A freind of mine has been keeping a log of when she uses them though. |
|
Chia Flour A rather unsporting bit of battledome magic that will turn your oppenent into a yellow chia if it hits. |
|
Draik Eggs Will hatch into a Draik. They come in Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Ice and Darigan so far. |
|
Neggs Witchy Neggs and Kaleideoneggs can change a pet's color/species. Vortex Neggs will turn your pet to one of the four basic colors, and Plain Neggs may change your pets color randomly. |
|
Mysterious Swirly Potion MS Potions will randomly change the species of a pet to a LE species (all LE but Krawk and Draik). If the color of the pet pre-use is avalible in the species that the potion turns the pet into, the pet will keep it's color. If it is not avalible, the pet will become a basic color pet. For example if a plushie skeith uses the potion, it will pretty much stay plushie afterwards, as most (but not all) LE pets come in plushie. If a biscuit ruki uses the potion, it could turn into a biscuit chomby but it could also turn into a red cybunny or blue kiko. |

The lab ray can be used once a day on one pet. The petpet lab ray can be used once a day on a petpet. Note that you must have the lab ray to get the petpet lab ray.
This is actually a rather nice thing to have. Normally most people buy a lab ray and do not bother getting paintbrushes. The lab ray will change one thing a day for a pet, its stats, gender, color or species. Stats can go up and down using the lab ray. It can be the cheapest way to get a draik or a krawk, if it actually turns your pet into one of these.
The petpet lab ray is purely for amusement. The one thing to remember about the petpet ray is that if you remove the petpet from your neopet it will revert back to its origional species/color. You cannot use the PPLR to get a rare petpet to sell. A result of a krawk petpet from the PPLR will not allow you to create a krawk neopet at fungus cave. Lab Ray FAQs

TPs are potions that when used on your pet will turn that pet into a mutant _____. Say you use a Lupe TP on a Kougra. The pet will then turn into a mutant Lupe, not a mutant Kougra. The only way to get a mutant is to use the specific TP, the lab ray or a FFQ.

For example sometimes on Mutant Day, every neopet that had a mutant color option avaliable in thier species had images of thier mutant version show up instead of whatever color the pet was. However when searched for the pets would have the correct color and species listed on thier lookups. Also on Borovan Day, all the pets were turned into Asparagus Chias. These effects just lasted for the entire day of the Event and afterwards all the pets were returned to normal. None yet ):

Training can be accomplished through training at The Academy (uses dubloons), The Training School (uses basic codestones) and/or The Secret Ninja Training School (uses red codestone and the pet must be level 250+).
You can also use the The Lab Ray if you have unlocked it. Note however that the Lab Ray is unpredicatble. It will give/take all stats except Intelligence, and will only increase, not decrease HP.

T&Cs
6. You May Only Have Five Accounts Because Your Pets Need Your Attention. It is important that Neopets users are responsible for their pets and play the game in a fair manner. Therefore, do not create more accounts or Neopets than you can maintain. You are allowed a maximum of five (5) accounts. One of these accounts, your main account, can do everything on Neopets. The other four accounts (except if one is a guild account as explained below) can adopt Neopets and maintain a gallery but cannot have a store, play games or any other activity that earns Neopoints or participate in any voting activities. You may freely transfer items and among your accounts but they should be on the same e-mail address as your main account. If you are the head of a guild, you may use one of your five accounts as a guild account and it should be named as such (for example, Abandoned Computer Chips Orphanage guild account). In addition to your main account, a guild account can have a store but cannot earn Neopoints in any manner other than through the store, auctions and trades (and anything that happens on that account could impact your other accounts). If you maintain a guild account, you will be held responsible for that account. You are permitted only one guild account per guild."
FAQs
Q. I sometimes lend out my pets or rare items to friends and guild members so they can get avatars or battle. Can I request a tip for doing this favor?
A. Really not a favor at that point is it? No, we don't allow people to lend any pet or item for a profit whether you call the profit a tip, fee, or something else. By the way, be careful lending out a pet!!! If your pet gets picked by someone else, you may lose your pet forever. And remember, it is against Neopets Terms and Conditions to sell a pet!!!
Q. I like my new account much better than my old account and I have a friend who wants my old account. Can I give it to her?
A. Sorry but you are not allowed to give away, sell, trade, share or buy a Neopets account or pets for Neopoints, money, items, or anything else -- even to your very best friend in the whole world. To deactivate an unwanted account, go here. You may place an unwanted pet into the The Neopian Pound, if you wish.
Q. I was caught cheating on one of my accounts, but all my accounts were frozen. Why did that happen?
A. When someone is caught breaking the rules, the site monitors can freeze every one of that player's accounts, depending on the offense committed and the player's prior conduct. If you break the rules, you face Neopian justice administered by Lawyerbot and his minions.
Q. I was unjustly frozen. Do you think your freezing programs might be imperfect?
A. Contrary to urban myth, we do not use automated programs to freeze users. Though we have numerous programs that monitor the site and the game play, live monitors make the final decision as to what punishment, if any, is appropriate." Akaunt's Guide to Multiple Accounts

TNT's Pound FAQS
These can be found HERE
1. Do my Neopet's clothes go with her when I abandon her?
No, all wearables are removed and placed in your Closet when you choose to abandon. This includes Paint Brush clothes, Neopoint wearables, and NC Mall wearables.
2. What happens to my Neopet's Battledome gear when I abandon him?
Battledome items are removed from your Neopet and returned to your Inventory.
3. Will my Neopet keep his Petpet if I abandon him?
Yes, your Neopet's Petpet will go with him.
4. I abandoned the wrong Neopet by mistake! How do I get my Neopet back?
You can go to the Adopt section. Enter your Neopet's name in the search bar at the top and you might be able to adopt your Neopet back, if you are very quick. Good luck!
5. How often can I abandon a Neopet?
You can abandon a Neopet once a day, as long as you can afford the Neopoints and assuming you can face the tears in their eyes. *sob*
6. Why doesn't my new Neopet have any clothes?
When a Neopet is abandoned, any Paint Brush clothes remain in the user's account. If you want to get the Royal Paint Brush clothes for your new Royal Bruce, for example, you will need to paint her with a Royal Paint Brush.
7. Is it safe to adopt a Neopet without interrupting someone else's transfer?
Yes, all transfers may now be made through the Transfer option. Any Neopet that you find through the Adopt option is available for anyone to adopt.
8. I see a lot of Neopets with names that are just jumbles of numbers and letters. Can I report them?
Please only report names that contain offensive material. What may seem like nonsense to you may actually be the code name of a secret agent, and is perfectly acceptable.
9. Can I get Paint Brush clothes when I adopt?
Paint Brush wearables, along with all other wearables, only stay with Neopets that are being transferred, not abandoned. If you are just looking to adopt a random Neopet, you will not receive any wearables, backgrounds, or trinkets. This includes default items like the Blue Usul Bow or the Ixi Collar.
10. Are Adoption Agencies allowed?
As long as no fees are charged, anyone is free to offer Neopets to other users. If you want to give away a Neopet with a particular set of clothing, however, be sure to use the Transfer option.

Also, TNT has answered some more pound questions in the editorial released the same week as the pound. Issue 341 Highlights from this issue of the editorial include:
- Neopets featuring old art will NOT be automatically converted if they are transferred. However, once they are in the hands of their new owner, that player will have the option of permanently converting them. So if you do not want your Neopet to be converted we suggest being careful with the lending out of an unconverted Neopet unless you're willing to risk this happening. Once a Neopet is converted it cannot be changed back, even if it is someone else who did it.
- To explain as simply as possible, the first thing someone should understand is that, once they choose to let their Neopet go (even if it's to a friend), the Neopet no longer belongs to them. Therefore, they need to be sure that letting their Neopet leave the account is what they want, because this is solely their responsibility and choice. Secondly, as of this writing, (May 1st), the selling of Neopets and trading of Neopets for items, Neopoints, etc. is also against the rules. Therefore, if you are caught doing it you could lose the Neopet and your account.
| 1) L.E. pet days and the days before them, and also days when a new species is released, can be some of the best times to pound surf. On these days the pound is normally overflowing with painted pets as people pound thier old pets in an attempt to get the Limited Edition pet or the newly released pet. At one point, I placed a Christmas painted Cybunny in the pound on Cybunny day, and the poor little guy sat in the pound for about 10 minuets until I made a board announcing that he was still there. |
|
2) If you adopt a pet and then get a message from someone claiming that the pet was theirs and that they lost it or 'accidentally' put it in the pound, don't let them guilt you into putting a pet back into the pound. I once adopted a pet and got two neomails, one from the previous owner saying congratulations, the other from a person trying to trick me by saying that the pet was theirs and that they wanted it back). There is only one way for a person to prove that a pet was theirs-and that is to know what books the pet has read (as only the current owner of a Pet can see what books it has read). Screenies can be faked, and people can have friends or use their side accounts to 'back up' their claims.
If that person continuously bothers you, or threatens to report you for not putting the pet back into the pound (happened to mom a few times) block them from sending you neomails and report them for harassment if you so desire. You have to click the abandon button six times to put a pet into the pound, so there is no way that a person can accidentally put a pet into the pound. If someone says that they were transferring a pet to another account and you adopted the pet before they could, you still have every right to say 'tough luck' and not put the pet back into the pound. Also it is never worth the risk because if the pet is painted/rare/high level it will likely be adopted up before you can blink. So ignore people who beg for a pet that you just adopted. | |
|
3)Take around 3000-6000nps at least to make sure you get the pet you want. Pets that are a higher level cost a lot of nps to adopt. Also many painted/LE pets in the pound usually cost a good chunk of change because they tend to be high in level.
| |
| 4)Be patient. It can take forever to find a good pet. Mom could go for days without seeing a painted/rare pet, or she could see five in an hour, it just depends. Pound surfing can be very frustrating but also very rewarding so just keep that in mind. | |

HERE are the FAQs TNT has released on Transferring.
1. How do I transfer my Neopet?
Make sure to choose the middle door! Select the Neopet you wish to transfer and CAREFULLY enter the username of the person you want to transfer your Neopet to.
2. How often can I transfer a Neopet to or from my account?
You can transfer one Neopet to another user each month. You can also accept one transfer from another user during each month. Each Neopet can only be transferred once per day.
3. How do I give away Paint Brush clothes?
To give away your Neopet with all of his Paint Brush clothing, use the Transfer option instead of Abandon. You will need to choose which user to transfer your Neopet to.
4. Why can't I transfer my Neopets?
Your account must be at least four months old. If you have already transferred a Neopet recently, you must wait until next month to transfer another one. Each month, you can send one Neopet away and receive one Neopet.
5. What goes with my Neopet when I use the Transfer option?
Everything except NC Mall items and Battledome equipment. This means that your Neopet takes his Petpet, Paint Brush clothes (for the colour he is currently painted), and buyable wearables with him.
**Shade's Note! This means petpages and petlookups go with the pet too!
6. Is it all right to transfer my Neopet to my side account?
Yes, it's fine to use the Transfer option to move around Neopets between your main account and side accounts. We also approve of rearranging your sock drawer.
7. Can I charge a fee for transferring my Neopet, since her wearables cost me Neopoints?
No, you may not charge ANY fee for transferring your Neopet, no matter how expensive her outfit is. If you don't want to lose your investment, remove the items before transferring your Neopet.
8. I accidentally misspelled the username I was transferring my Neopet to. How do I get my Neopet back?
If the user is active on the site, you can try Neomailing him or her and explaining the situation. They are NOT required to give your Neopet back, though. If the user does not log on and accept the transfer during the next three days, your Neopet will automatically return to you.
9. I'm transferring a Neopet to a friend. Why can't I create a new Neopet?
The transfer must be completed first. As long as the Neopet is between accounts, you are not allowed to adopt or create any new Neopets. This is to make sure that your Neopet will have a home however things turn out
10. A friend and I traded pets but now I want my pet back but they won't trade back with me, what can I do?
Once you choose to let your pet go, even if it's to a friend, your pet will belong to them. So please be sure that letting your pet leave your account is what you want because this is solely your responsibility and choice.
Also, please remember when trading pets, accepting tips/payments of any kind will get both accounts frozen.

Also, TNT has answered some more pound questions in the editorial released the same week as the pound. Issue 341 Highlights from this issue of the editorial include:
- The FAQ says that you can transfer a Neopet every month. By this, we mean every calendar month. So, if you transferred a Neopet on April 30th, you could transfer another Neopet in early May.
- We put a lot of thought into the Pound, especially with regard to transferring paint brush clothing. We decided that it just wouldn't be right for players to transfer around Neopets that had been painted several times, as this would just be too much of a cheat to get free paint brush clothing. It was a tough decision to even allow the paint brush clothing of what it was currently painted as to be allowed to be passed on to another player.
- (Q: Can you transfer Lutaris?) No, Lutaris cannot be abandoned without running away, and they will not allow themselves to be transferred. Sheesh! They are such willful Neopets, aren't they?
- (on the issue of trading pets) To explain as simply as possible, the first thing someone should understand is that, once they choose to let their Neopet go (even if it's to a friend), the Neopet no longer belongs to them. There are only two ways to get a lutari:
-From the Neopets Mobile (Phone) Service
-Or from the lab ray.
Except for a few times right after they were created for the first time, Lutari have not been released for free creation at all. They are not released on their pet day to be made.
Also, Lutari cannot be transferred from one account to another. Below is a screenshot of my lutari at the transfer screen. Highlighted (and enlarged) is the warning from TNT on transferring a lutari.
Lutari CAN be pounded (see below, TNT gives you that option). HOWEVER once pounded a Lutari 'runs away.'
It is not in the pound for someone to adopt nor is it even visible in the pound. When the pet is looked up you receive a message stating...
Thus you cannot transfer a lutari at all, but you can pound it. However when a lutari is pounded nobody can get the pet. If you have a lutari and do not want it I suggest putting it to the lab ray or using a morphing or trans potion on it.
If you want a lutari you have to sign up for Neopets Mobile or get a lucky lab ray zap. None yet ):

However is is still considered reportable to neomail someone asking for their pet IF they have NOT put it up for trade. Use common sense please and do not continue to ask someone for a pet if they have said no or have never put it up for trade or adoption to start with.

1) Pet Begging: Asking for another player's items, pets or neopoints is against the rules, UNLESS they specifically have stated that their pet is UFA ("Up for Adoption"). *pokes above editorial links* Do not go around asking people to pound pets for you, you can and likely will get into trouble for it. Making a topic asking for pet to put into your adoption agency on the Help Boards also has been known to get people into trouble and reported. My advice for this is pound surf on your own for your agency or get yourself the lab ray. If you want to run an agency, fine, but don't expect others to keep pets in it for you. Adoption Agencies are a lot of hard work to run and maintain, so don't start one if it is going to make you resort to begging. I advise, if you have a pet or two you want to put in an agency, go out and find an agency that is already established to put your pet in. Then if you like the experiance and have gathered more pets to put in an agency consider starting your own then. Also if you are looking for a particular pet you can always watch the boards and see who is pounding or trading what. If a player says they are pounding or transferring their pet and that they are looking for a new owner, it is fine to contact them. If someone says they are pounding x pet on x account, make sure that they can CONTACT you from the account the pet is on. NEVER neomail a player asking for their pet out of the blue unless they have said to contact if interested in their pet. It is extremely rude and usually will get you reported. |
2) Pet Baiting: Definition of Sarcasm:a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain" Definition of Utterance: a vocal noise For one, you are typing a message. Sarcasm (SEE ABOVE DEFINITIONS) is, by definition, not something that is normally obvious in a written message. Yes, there are context clues in a written passage that can lead a reader to infer that there is a sarcastic statement in said passage, but that is a higher level reading skill, that many of the younger neopet players may not yet have. Thus it is understood by some why younger players actually have trouble with following the sarcastic posts of others and belive that they may get a pet. Then there are other players who look upon pet baiting as nothing more than one person being either rude or bragging about what they have. Remember: It is far easier to say "Earn your own" or (insert shameless plug here) "Read Xanjie's petpage" then to say "Sure, you want my (insert pet name)? I spent x amount just to give her away." See? It is shorter. *grin* |

Editorial on Pet Trading
Question: Okay, I understand that trading Neopets for items, NP, etc. is not okay. However, is trading a Neopet for another Neopet okay? I've seen a lot of people trying to trade Neopets and claiming it's okay, but you've never actually said that it's okay, have you? The thing they are showing as proof that it's okay is a question in the Pound FAQ that's about Neopet trading.
TNT's Response: Yes, trading Neopets (even though we don't like the idea of players trading their Neopets) is tolerated, but only if it is a 1:1 swap. This means no "extras" sent before/during/after the swap that might include Neopoints, items, accounts, coding, art, or anything else that would be considered an illegal payment. If there is an agreement to trade Neopets and the process has already begun (one of the Neopets has already been sent) then the other person must fulfill their side of the bargain or return the Neopet. Running off with one after a trade has begun is considered scamming and will result in that player being frozen. It is unlikely you will get your Neopet back if this occurs, though, so use good judgment as to who you swap with!"
Since this has come out players have been trying to upgrade their pets-trading one for a better color, stats or names. While some see no harm in this, others are slightly disgusted at the way pets have suddenly become collateral.
Thus Neopians have a new hot topic to debate.
Please also consider what you are doing when you are trading pets-there is a high risk of someone offering to trade a pet, only to find they run off with your pet. Be safe out there. Always check to make sure that the person you are talking to is actually on the account from which they which to trade pets.
And, upon request of a guildmate, I have made this, if you are interested in using it. Sadly, my animated graphics skills are rather lacking.

Reasons for Pet Trading
Trading pets is the only way to get an Unconverted Neopet. If a person has a pet that they painted a long time ago and they no longer want the pet, they should be able to trade it for something they do want. This way they do not waste all the time and effort they spent earning that pet only t repaint it or throw it in the pound where some random person can adopt it. By trading they can give that pet to someone that really wants it and can in turn get a pet they really want. You can trade a lab ray zapped pet that you dislike for one you like. No longer must you feel guilty, like I sometimes did, for zapping over a 'cool' color from the lab ray. |
Reasons Against Pet Trading
In many people's opinions, pets should NOT be used as collateral. By allowing pet trading, some believe that pets have been given monetary value on the site, which is something that was never intended for the pets. A pet's only 'value' should be what it means to the owner, not how much was spent in creating it. Pets should not be used to 'upgrade' to more expensive looking pets. Some players view trading as a way to upgrade their account into looking more impressive with little or no effort. Because players are now trading pets, the prices of items that change your pet (lab rays, potions, magical plushies, etc) have drastically jumped in price. |
