Catch a Falling Star

Standing outside on a crisp winter's night you look up to observe the stars. Out away from the busy city lights you can make out some of the constellations though it's more fun making up your own. While tracing out your own designs in the sky a dark shadow crosses over your line of sight, blocking the stars from view. You gasp, surprised, wondering where the stars went which draws the attention of the creature which is blocking them, the star dragon.

ABOUT ME

With a power gust from his wings the star dragon lands before you. He towers above standing a good 7 feet tall an the shoulder you'd guess. Sorry, about that. Still talking, the star dragon folds his wings against his back and walks up to you. I did not mean to startle you. Are you alright? Normally I don't find humans wandering around by themselves. he comments, smiling reassuringly, raising his head to peer behind you to make sure that his assumption was correct. Did you get lost or are you just enjoying the stars tonight? He laughs gently then remembers that his asked you all these questions without even telling you who he is. Excuse me, let me introduce myself. I am Star, well, that's what everyone calls me for the most part. It is nice to meet you... He pauses to catch your name.

Well, #VISTOR, it's nice to meet a new friend. Lovely night isn't it? he asks, making small talk.

Finding yourself comfortable and in a inquisitive mood you ask Star to tell you about himself.

Star sits down, leaning back on his haunches and looks up at the sky. Me? Oh, well I'm a, uh-

You break in and jest, "You don't know what you are?

Star chuckles embarrassedly, Oh, No, it's not that. It's just a funny story really. Let's see... When I was younger I was a draik, no, not really, I just thought I was a draik. You see I when I hatched I looked very similar to a normal starry draik except I had this horns and a star tail spade and special markings.

Doesn't that make you just a special draik or something?" you ask. Whether you have met many draiks or not you know that there are lots of "special" pets of any given species and the only thing different is their special markings.

Ah, no, well, I guess you're right. That's what I thought when I was little anyways. But that's not the case. It's true I did look like a "special" draik but really I am a dragon. Though I didn't find out about this until I met my twin sister.

Surprised you ask, "You have a sister?

Yes, Hikaru. I didn't meet her until a few years ago. I was surprised to say the least. I always knew deep down in my heart but I didn't realize it until I met her. Hikaru was the first to notice, of course. She is the oldest and knew of my egg before I hatched. She told me about it after saving me.

Interested you take a step forward, towards Star and ask, What happened?

Star, seeing as this is going to be a long conversation, curls his long tail around his feet. What happened was I was flying over the ocean one night when I was attacked by this monster, Hikaru later called it Cranther, who rose up out of the depths and tried to eat me. A blinding light flashed out of this sphere that I am wearing around my neck.

Star lifts up the glass-like orb in his hand-claw. The moonlight reflects off the clear outer ring of the yellow ball. Deep inside you can see star shapes and what appears to be tiny bubbles locked inside the hard pearl. Star set the glowing sphere back to his chest where it hung by a fine cord. I dodged to get away but it was too big and too fast. While I was dodging the monster's head it smacked me with it's tail, sending me down into the water. That's all that I remember. When I woke up Hikaru was sitting beside me, watching over me. Actually, come to think about it, I believe that I have been attacked by this monster twice in my life. Each time I was lucky to survive. The first time was when I just starting out on my adventures. But that's a whole 'nother story. Anyways, like I was saying, Hikaru was watching over me. She feed me and then asked me where I had obtained my glowing sphere.

I didn't know why she asked but I told her that my older brother Lcube gave it to me. He had won in one day in a contest or match or something. Lcube said that he felt that I should have it and I have always kept it with me since then.

Hikaru nodded slowly and then told me that I was her brother. She said that she knew the moment that she looked into my eyes. I guess I have the same eyes as my father. Not only that, but this glowing sphere that I have had nearly as long as I can remember was once hers. I really couldn't believe it at first, it didn't make a lot of sense but in my heart I knew it was true. Hikaru continued to tell me about our eggs and how she ended up being nearly one hundred years older then me when we're twins.

That's when she told me about our dragon eggs and dragon eggs in general. It takes a lot time before dragons can lay eggs. They have to find a safe place, normally away from humans so I'm told, that has all the needed elements for their hatchlings to survive. After a short time the eggs can hatch once all the needed elements in the environment are met. When the conditions are not met then the dragon inside may become dormant, awaiting for the prefect conditions to be met.

Our mother laid a large clutch for her species, two identical eggs. Hikaru was the first to hatch. Hikaru and our parents waiting the whole season and when my egg did not hatch in time they left, believing my egg to be a dud. It is impossible to tell whether a dragon egg is a dud or just dormant. I was dormant. Somehow, and I'm not sure how, but my mother, lotr_raichu_jesus, was given my egg from a friend of hers that traded for me, thinking I was a normal draik egg. We guess that I had been found and sold as a draik egg since my egg and draik eggs look alike. Which is another thing I learned about my egg. It appears, and would account for me appearing to be a draik when I hatched, that unhatched dragons in order to increase the chances of survival, take on physical attributes of the surrounds. Since I didn't hatch for nearly one hundred years I slowly took on the appearances of draiks since my egg was around them so long. Hikaru could see past that and told me that when she was forced to leave with our parents that she left the glowing sphere with my egg. She believes that somehow during all that time it was separated from me and finally returned to me when I hatched. That's how Lcube came to win it and give it to me.

Wow," you say, that was indeed an amazing story. "That's awesome. But I'm a little confused. You said your mother, lotr_raichu_jesus and then you went to talk about your parents. Aren't they the same? And what about your brother Lcube? Where'd he come from?

FAMILY

Well when I talk about my mother I mean my human mother. She was the one that raised me. I haven't met my biological mother yet. Hikaru's only told me about her and I get the feeling that I can't go see her, for whatever reason. I would like to meat her someday.

Marsi (lotr_raichu_jesus) raised me giving me a roof over my head and a loving family to grow up with. I may not be her son by blood but I am by heart. She has always made sure that everyone is a part of the family. Other things about her is that she is an artist. She loves to draw. One thing, if she asks to draw you be sure that you're comfortable because you may be sitting there for a while. Oh, and she likes to take random pictures.

Star shakes his head. She's a lot of fun. A little silly at times, but always there to help when there's a need and has a very big heart. She's always doing things for other people, sometimes too much so that she can't even finish what she's started!

Mom adopted our whole family. Lcube was the first. She found him one day in the pound, she just happened to see him there and adopted him out. There was something about him, she said. He was just a young shoyru at the time. He told her of his past and how he got caught up in the pound. He was once the next in line to be Pharaoh back in Egypt but he fled because of some evil deeds. His real mother feared for his life if he continued to live in egypt and the corruption that was all around so she smuggled him out of the country. I guess that there has been an underground war in Egypt for many years now. Somehow while on his own he was captured and thrown into the pound. Ever since Lcube has lived with us, always the big brother. He was there when I hatched and was the one who taught me to fly. He also has been studding at the training school everyday and fighting in any of the small wars for practice. I think he is going back to Egypt someday...

I have two older sisters, well, two adopted sisters and one real sister. Hikaru is my real sister by blood. Rajah and Cielo Musoke are my adopted sisters.

I already told you a little bit about Hikaru though I'll tell you more now. She is an oriental dragon from China and Japan. We're both cross breeds, she took more after our mother's side for body structure while I took after my father.
We both have purple hair. Unlike the colors of our parents. Hikaru says that is because of our blessing. When we were still in our eggs two mysterious dragons came and blessed our eggs in the work of the Creator. That explains Hikaru's deep connection with the Earth and her earth abilities and also why she knew that one day my egg would hatch if on;y they waited long enough.
Hikaru has a deep sense of the earth and manifests her gifts in plant-life and in the very soil of the earth itself. She also protects a special realm, her Secret Garden, where the plant embodiment of all life on earth grows.

Rajah is one of my adopted sisters. She's a kougra but we think, or are almost sure of, that she's a tiger from another dimension. She is not like a normal tiger. She's telepathic for one thing, using her ability to talk and to tell stories. The other is that she doesn't have the same marking as a tiger. Instead she's yellow with red and black stripes. She's very playful. Like a big kitten. She's the second oldest in our family and sometimes a little trouble maker, all for a good story of course!

As I said have one more sister, Cielo Musoke. She is a little cloud draik and the baby of the family. She's a lot like me in the way that she was adopted as an egg. Mom was walking down the road one day when she found a premium draik breeder destroying draik eggs by throwing them to the ground. Mom rushed to stop and succeeded in stopping him from breaking Cielo's tiny egg. The story mom was able to get out of the enraged breeder was that his prized cloud draik got out and had a clutch with an unknown male and thus he was destroying the impure eggs. I can't believe someone would destroy eggs like that! I'm glad the breeder wasn't able to destroy Cielo. She's real specail and a kick to have around. She calls everyone a "Faebie," which is her word for faerie and gives hugs to everyone she meets. She has a very loving heart, tackle-snuggling random people. Sometimes she scares me a little bit when she runs up to hug someone that I don't know. Also, watch your hair when around her. Cielo loves to play with your hair. I think I still have a few knots from the last time that she "bradded" my hair. The only problem is when she tries to brad Faelyn's hair.

PET

Faelyn?

Faelyn is my pet. She is a island faellie with yellow and blue markings. I was giving her as a kitten when I was very little. I love Faelyn though she can be a pain at times. She's very possessive and chases off people if they don't give her the proper attention. Oh, and she gets so jealous when other petpets are around. She has to sit in the nape of my neck when I'm at home and won't budge unless Mahealani is on the floor.

Mahealani, (Ma-hey-ah-la-ni) is a cooty which somehow walked into the home one day with Kyuuten my faerie. Mahealani name means beautiful moon. My mom helped me find her name which is fitting since she has moon shaped marking on her face and tail. The sad thing is Faelyn is adamant to eat her or something. I'm surprised she hasn't killed the poor thing yet. It's pretty cute for a bug and it seems to like Faelyn even though all Faelyn does is bite at it.

Kyuuten, is a very special faerie giving to me by a faerie ixi named Dancing Mymph. She is what's called a bonded faerie, meaning that she shares similar traits as me. I named her Kyuuten which means sky and heavens in Japanese. I chose that name for her because flying in the sky means so much to me and she reminds me of flying. Faelyn was so mad at her when she brought in Maheah. Of course Faelyn doesn't even like Kyuuten. (It's because she thinks she'll steal my attention or something like that I'm sure.) It seems about the only people Faelyn DOES gets along with is Cielo, most of the time, and Dsetsu.

FRIENDS

Who's Dsetsu?" you ask, wondering who this person is. It seems like this star dragon has a lot of family.

Dsetsu is one of my friends. She was one of the first draiks I met in the Draik Clan. I ran into her when I first went exploring. I didn't get a chance to really get know her much because we were attacked by Cranther and sorta lost touch in the confusion. Later I met her again and found out that she had a brother, Monte, which I had met separately. Zetsie is a flower mage faerie draik and has been off exploring for a long while.

You nod and smile, waiting for the starry dragon to continue. Star notices that you wish him to continue in his story about his friends. He takes a deep breath and thinks.

Let's see. I mentioned Monte, he is Dsetsu's older brother. Monte is a fire draik knight who will never backs down to any challenge, any challenge. (Even if it's to the sun and back.) We're really good friends. When I first met Monte he didn't really know how to fly. We had a lot of fun together teaching him how. He's now married to Juli, a really nice striped draik.

Aww." you coo, thinking how wonderful that must have been. Sounds like to have alot of good friends.

Star nods,Yeah, I do. It's great to have so many wonderful friends. My oldest friend is Gandalf. Sometimes we say that we were friends before we even hatched. Our mothers are best friends and when we were still in our eggs they used to bring us together, (Surely talking about us and all that motherly stuff). Gandalf was named after the Lord of the Rings character Gandalf the Grey and is a very nice and friendly draik. Gandalf and I share a plushie draik plushie that our mothers gave to us on our first Christmas. We named him Plaikie. We used to fight over Plaikie all the time when it was time to go home. We could never work out who would take him home because we both wanted to take him home with us! I still think Gandalf got to take him home more times than myself but that doesn't matter anymore. It seems as if Cielo has taken a liking to Plaikie and now has taken him as her own. Star sighed and shook his head.

A long distance friend of mine is Aluziza. She's not a dragon like many of my friends but she's a good friend none the less. She is a character. Got a good head on her and can give you a good you a good poke in the right direction if you are lost.

Moving on Star continued. Isa is one of my best friends. We used to see each other all the time because we didn't live too far from each other. Sadly, she moved a while ago and I haven't had much of a chance to see her since then. Isa has great healing powers and for awhile was studding to be a doctor.
Isa is Yasa's adopted daughter. Yasa is a real amazing Japanese fire dragon and a great samurai. I still remember the time we met, he was trying to save Isa and they were attacked by an evil water monster. Yasa has always been so brave and kind. He later married Quetzalteotl and they had a clutch of four children.
Quetz is a blue feathered Mesoamerican dragon and has a great love of chocolate. She even named one of her children after the word chocolate.

I don't remember when I first met Tarre. It might have been at the Hanabi Festival or before that. Anyways, he's a fun and goofy electric draik hy-bred with real strong thunder and lightning abilities. Narayan is his sister. I didn't know that she was Tarre's younger sister until I met her not too long ago. She's a nice red bush-tail hy-bred draik like her older brother.

If you ever run into Don & Van you'll never forget them. Besides just being huge, they are twins (two heads) sharing one body. It can be a little bit intimidating when you have both of them talking about eating yummy morsels like yourself or how you would make a nice slave but on the inside they are really good dragons and great friends. Surprisingly enough, Don and Van are the old brothers of both Monte and Dsetsu. And to make family life even more interesting they also share two more siblings, Boko and Mur.

Another long time friend of mine is Queen Tasmira the Faerie Queen of the Seelie Court. Along with her husband Philorre they have raised two beautiful daughters Aara and Aduial which have grown remarkably fast. I remember when Quern Tasmira and PhiLorre were married, now they have grown kids. The two girls just had their Yule Ball in the Draik Clan.

ENEMIES

Star smiles, he likes talking about his friends, remembering all the fun times they had together. He tries not to think of those which would be called his enemies. Cranther being his most feared. The viel monster is everything Star fears, a giant winged monster that raises out of the depts of the darkest water, his very blood it yearns for. To taste his flesh is her deepest desire, prey worthy of the kill...

Which leads to another unpleasent thought in his mind. Shivvy, a slimey green drakkon, munching on the egg and wings of a dear friend of his. He has ran into her later, seeing a softer side of this crused drakkon, as she has become a good friend of his youngest sister Cielo. Altough he is still uncomfortable around her presence he has learned to accept her as she is and maybe will be able to forgive her one day.

You've mentioned this "Draik Clan" a number of times. What is the Draik Clan?

Coming out of his own thoughts star replies, "The Draik Clan? Oh. It's a territory or group of territories that are only for draiks. I have met a lot of my friends wandering around the clan territories. You have to be careful though. Some of the draiks that live there are unfriendly to outsiders but for the most part draiks enjoy it there, making new friends, claiming a piece of the clan lands for themselves, and just having a good time. There's alot of good draiks and dragons there. Alot of draiks call it home. Even I have a home there myself.

MY HOME

So where does a dragon like yourself sleep when you're at at home with your family?" You ask.

As much as I love staying with at my mother's it's just too crowded for me now. I've grown too big to move around the house with ease. Plus I can't stay with her forever. I needed a place of my own. So a few years ago, back when nearly all the territories were unexplored, I set out on a scouting mission with my friends Isa, Yasa, Quetzalteotl. We explored a tropical jungle finding some ancient ruins, a waterfall, lots of plants and birds and a wild creek. Yasa and Quetza built a home near the ruins up to the north by the waterfalls. Father south, next to Makarizo Creek in a clearing between the trees I found a ancient tree to that I liked and took it for my own. It is unlike to others being one of the tallest around with large branches strong enough to hold my weight. For some reason I fell in love with giant tree. It didn't bare any leaves for some reason. It wasn't until after a massive storm came through and knocked it down into the creek that it bared any leaves. My sister Hikaru helped bring my tree back to life with her talents and now it bares lots of leaves and even flowers at times.

TRAVELS

I find myself traveling alot. That's how I have met so many people and learned so much, not just about them but about myself as well. Something that will stick with me is what a very wise friend told me.Anybody can be a Hero, you just have to be willing to help. A hero is not someone with special powers but someone who's willing to use the ability he has.

Without the help of my friends I wouldn't be who I am today. To have someone be there to help you get through life's problems and to know you're not alone in your troubles is very comforting. You are never alone if you let people be your friend. It starts when you let them in. I guess it's something I have to remind myself sometimes.
I also travel to be alone. I enjoy just watching the stars... Star's mind wanders off for a moment, wondering if it is even possible to travel to the stars... It also nice to be surrounded in the beauty of nature to sort out your thoughts.
