[.Introduction.]

You never knew the desert was so hot. Waves of heat distort the horizon, and all you can see are sand dunes and more sand dunes...wait. Is it just your imagination, or is there a green smear glimmering ahead? Desperate for something to drink and shelter from the constant sun, you quicken your pace, and it doesn't take you long to arrive at the oasis. It houses plenty of shady trees, and to your delight you spot a small stream. But before you can lean down to take a drink, a rustling sounds behind you and you turn to see a green and white gelertess standing there watching you. Her dark green eyes watch you warily, but not without warmth.

Welcome to my oasis," she says hospitably. You step away from the stream. "Sorry, I didn't know it was yours!" you say, but she smiles and shakes her head. "It's not really mine. Any desert traveller is welcome to use it and stay here. But come, I will take you to an even more restful place.

With a flick of her tail she turns and leads you to a huge rock, in which you notice an opening to a cave. You follow her inside and emerge into a rather spacious cavern. Sunlight shines through an opening in the roof of the cave, and a small waterfall feeds a stream that runs across one side of the cave and then down out of side into the wall. On the opposite wall is a simple padded mat and a single cabinet. The gelertess opens this cabinet and takes out a cushion, which she sets on the ground and indicates for you to sit. Then she takes out a clay jug and two clay cups, which she fills with some sort of pinkish-orange-colored juice from the jug. You accepted her offered cup and settle back on the cushion as she sits across from you on the mat and begins speaking:

[.Personality.]

Feel free to take more juice if you want it. It's an original of mine, a combination of fruits I cultivate here in the oasis. I guess now is a good time to introduce myself; I'm Dapplestars, and I have lived here almost all of my life. I have one brother who also lives in the desert - you'll learn more about him later - but other that I have no remaining family.

I spend my time here taking care of various fruits and plants I've planted just outside the cave entrance, and generally making sure my oasis is in perfect shape for any travellers that might pass by. When I spot someone, I usually climb a tree and conceal myself. If they don't seem threatening when they enter my oasis, I show myself and invite them in my cave. If they do seem dangerous, I stay in the tree until nightfall or until they go away. Another hobby of mine is creating medicines from my cultivated herbs, and in fact I have discovered quite a few remedies. When I'm hungry, I make up new combinations and ways to eat the fruits I have, and as a result I've made some very tasty creations.

I dislike anyone who comes here with ill will. Sometimes the creatures that come upon this place decide to take their anger out on my precious plants, which I hate, and when they're gone I try to fix whatever they've destroyed. Other than that, I can't really think of anything I don't like. Overall, I am a pretty patient and accepting personality, so not much can annoy me.

[.History.]

Well, I personally don't know much about how I got here; I can only tell what my brother has told me. My parents lived in a desert pack that made their home in an oasis larger than this one, but similar. Following a drought, a fire burned down the oasis and the village, including the pack members, with it. For a reason I am not at liberty to say, unless my brother wants to tell you himself, he knew about the fire right when it started and tried to save my parents. Unfortunately, by the time he reached our hut, it had already caught fire and was quickly burning. My parents gave me to my brother - I wasn't even a year old then - and told me to save both of us, which he did hesitantly. He travelled for days through the desert and eventually came upon this oasis, where he deposited me and cared for me until I could take care of myself. Then he went off and made a home for himself out in the desert. He visits me often though, to make sure I'm doing okay and just to talk. But this is only a summary of what happened - to hear first hand what happened, and in a greater amount of detail, you should visit my brother Sunnswept.

[.Oasis.]

You have seen part of this oasis while meeting me, but I will tell you in greater detail about my home.

This cave is natural, and was here when Sunnswept first brought me here. He actually built this cupboard for me, and made my sleeping mat. The hole in the roof is very handy for natural light during the day, and offers a great view of the stars at night. When it rains, it's not much of a big deal (it doesn't rain a lot anyway) - it just runs down to the stream. The waterfall is one of my favorite things about this place. It's gentle and refreshing, and feeds the stream that you see, which goes underground and waters the oasis. In fact, it comes above ground for a way so that it runs across the oasis.

Right outside my cave is a small orchard and garden, where I grow my herbs, flowers, and fruits. There are so many types of plant life here, from grass, to flowers, to bushes, to trees...all which I take care of, in a way. I make sure all of the plants are getting enough water, and that no diseases or infections are plaguing them. It's not like I have anything else to do.

My favorite time of the day here is when the sun is directly overhead and causes the trees to cast dappled shadows on the grass. At this time, I usually curl up in a soft spot of grass or up in a tree and doze for a while. My coat blends in perfectly, especially in the grass, so I never worry about being seen while I'm sleeping.

[.Love.]

I'm not sure what I think about love. I'm not even entirely sure what it entails. I'm afraid I'm rather naive with things like this, since I've had little exposure the the world outside of my oasis. I guess I'll know it when I find it...

[.Art.]

I have a wonderful collection of art of me. If you want, you can sift through them. They're all beautiful.

[.Bye.]

Thanks for visiting me here, even though I'm sure you didn't mean to," she smiles as you both get up to leave. As you get ready to begin your journey again, she says, "I took the liberty to refill your travelling bag with water and food. I hope that's okay! Anyway, please come back sometime; I love visits from friends!" You return her wave as you step out into the burning desert sands, already wishing you were back in her shady cave.
