FAQ When did you first come up with the idea for Paint Brush Polls? I first had the idea a couple years before the first article was published. I started taking votes back when the Curse of Maraqua plot was going on, but I didn't have enough time so I put it on hold. How did you come up with this idea? I don't remember exactly. I think I just figured there must be other people like me out there who are obsessed with comparing painted pet images and enjoy learning about this sort of research. How long does it take you to write an article? Writing the article only takes a couple of hours. It's compiling the votes, responding to neomails, updating this page, and selecting quotes that really eat away at my time. Hours upon hours--I'm not exaggerating. Why do you never quote me in your article? I've submitted a comment every time, and the same users always seem to get chosen! Please understand that I get an unbelievable amount of comments for each poll (which is great, by the way!) Selecting quotes is the last thing I do before I submit an article. The only rule I set for myself is that I won't put more than one quote by any one user in a single article. Other than that, I just select quotes that I feel best fit the article without even looking at usernames--which means begging won't help. ;) Well then, is there anything I can do to make my comment more likely to be selected? The main thing is try to be creative. If I have twenty comments for a particular species that all say "I love the fur!" and yours is one of them, the odds are not in your favor. I also try to avoid comments that reference the real world. Other than that, there are no real guidelines--I choose different quotes for different reasons, depending on how they feel in the article. (And anyway, I hope you're enjoying voting and reading the articles and are not solely concerned with seeing your username in the nt.) Come on, do you really count up user votes, or do you just pick the pets you like? Believe it or not, the results are taken strictly from users' votes (I don't even vote myself). For the original article, I asked people on the chat boards for help; however, ever since the first article was published, so many users have started neomailing me their votes on their own that I have to resort to the boards only occasionally. :D How many votes do you usually get? The numbers have been increasing with each subsequent article, but it's somewhere between 150 and 200 users. (Yes, that's a lot of neomail!) Will you write an article on [insert color] pets? They're my favorite! Please... I try to schedule my articles to be published around a Neopian or "real world" holiday or season, and I usually already have the next few planned. Don't worry though, I have a long list of colors I plan on doing and yours is probably on it. Is my favorite color on your list? I won't put them all here, but the list includes: Maraquan, Disco, Darigan, Mutant, and Desert. These are in no particular order. OMG! I love your articles! I'm doing one on [insert color] pets. Want to vote? While I appreciate the compliment, I ask that you don't do your own pet poll. The reason is that my articles are a series so I'm probably planning on doing that color myself eventually, and Paint Brush Polls is my own idea which I've put a lot of time and energy into. However, I don't mind you doing a poll article about something else (items, petpets, avatars, villains, plots, etc.)... Just know that these types of articles are a huge time commitment and shouldn't be attempted lightly. If I do a poll article, do I need to give you credit? That's not really necessary. Of course, if you did give me a nod somewhere I wouldn't mind a bit. ;) Also, if you are serious about doing a poll and have questions, just shoot me a neomail. How do you get the pictures in your articles? TNT states that they'll add the html for you if you tell them what you want; however, just to lighten their load, I put it in the article myself before I submit it. It's the same html code used to put an image on your petpage. Can I have your pet/ items/ np/ etc.? Please, please, please... Um, no. Useful Links:
