the emperor's return
02.01.12
| It's strange, the things you remember. The facts, seemingly insignificant details, and events come to mind so readily while others seem to have permanently slipped out of reach. For example; I can tell you that when I first woke up, the sand was cold. More than anything else, more than the feeling of loss once I realized I was gone perhaps forever from my islands, more than the fact I was completely alone for the first time in... millenia, really, I can tell you that the sand touching my face was cold. Colder than it should have been. Perhaps that is important because it was the first sign that something was amiss. Perhaps my mind simply wants to focus on the temperature of the ground because it means I don't have to think too much about what that small detail implied.
Regardless of all impact waking up held on my present being and future, all I really remember from those first few seconds of consciousness was that the sand was undeniably cold. |
