Under the sea

You're walking along the beach, sand squishing in between your toes, and a tropical breeze flowing by. The sun is setting on the ocean's shimmering horizon, painting the sky in all shades of blue, purple, and red. Small seashells wash up on the shoreline, in all shapes and colors. You walk up to the ocean's edge and sit down in the slightly damp sand. As you're watching the sunset, you suddenly a hear a soft voice next to you.

´´Beautiful, isn't it?´´

You quickly look to the right, and there, lying peacefully in the sand, a Peophin. Her skin is all dark charcoal, except for a swirling green pattern on her tail. She turns to you and smiles. Her eyes glitter a bright blue, and water drips off her light green mane.

´´I suppose I surprised you, didn't I?´´

You nod quietly, still wondering where this Peophin came from, and who she is.

´´...Who are you?´´ you finally ask.

´´Oh, I didn't introduce myself, did I? I'm Fantaysiah.´´

´´Hello, Fantaysiah,´´ you say, becoming a bit more relaxed. ´´I'm guest.´´

´´Well hello there, guest. What brings you here?´´

´´I was just watching the sunset... how about you?´´

Fantaysiah looked out to the sea, glowing in the sun. The water is clear and calm, with only a few small waves dancing across the surface.

´´It's a long story.´´

You move a bit closer to the Peophin and smile.

´´I've got time.´´

A Peophin's tale

Chapter One: Peace at Home

Once upon a time, I had a family. In fact I had more than a family, I had everything. I lived in Maraqua with my mother and father, I had tons of friends, the perfect home, the whole package. It seems like so long ago... eleven years to be exact. I was only eight at the time.

I spent my days swimming around the ocean with my friends. But I spent the most time with my very best friend, Lisha. She was my petpet Delfin. We had so much fun playing together, and for eight years I lived that way, completely carefree.

And when the afternoon came to it's end, Lisha and I would head back home. Mother was always waiting for us, with dinner on the table. Father was there too, usually reading the weekly Maraquan Messenger.

After dinner, mother and I would often swim up to the surface and watch the sunset. Oh how mother loved sunsets. I remember those days as if they were yesterday. The beach was sandy and warm, and the water felt so cool. The sky was filled with colors, every sunset a bit different than the last. We'd wait around for a while after the sun went down, talking, laughing, and just enjoying the view. But finally mother would take me back home at bedtime, and I'd fall asleep soon after.

Chapter Two: A Surprise

The day replays itself in my mind over and over again, like a broken record. It was early morning, and after breakfast, I had gone outside to play with Lisha. It started off as just another average day. I had no idea what was ahead of me.

´´Fantaysiah!´´ I heard mother call, the slightest bit of panic in her soft voice. ´´Come quickly, darling!´´ I hurried back home and met her at the front door. She seemed worried. ´´What is it, mother?´´ I asked her. Without receiving a reply, I was shuffled to the very back room. I don't believe we ever used that room, as it was very small, except for occasionally storing a few things. ´´Stay here,´´ mother told me quietly. As curious as I was, I didn't question her. ´´It will be alright,´´ she whispered as she closed the back room's door. ´´It will be alright...´´

I sat in that tiny underwater room for what seemed like hours at the time. Finally I couldn't take it anymore. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the handle, and cracked the door open slightly. I peered out nervously. Much to my surprise, nothing seemed unusual. I open the door further and left the room quietly. As it appeared to me, nothing had changed. I swam toward the front door, carefully scanning the house as I went. When I came to the door, I opened it slowly, and looked outside. I stood in utter shock of what lied before me.

Chapter Three: The Pirate Attack

Every corner of Maraqua was erupting in battle. Gunshot was ringing throughout the ocean, and soot was drifting in the water. Left and right, my people were falling, warriors and civilians alike. I can still remember the tears building up in my crystal blue eyes, and the fear for the worst in my heart.

The first thing that came to my thoughts was Lisha. I darted out of the doorway, frantically searching for the little Delfin. ´´Lisha!´´ I yelled. ´´Are you there?´´ I swam quickly around the crumbling city, my hopes fading fast. ´´Please, Lisha!´´ I cried. ´´Where are you?´´ Just as I had given up hope, I noticed a small green tail peeking out from behind a rock. I picked up the rock and moved it aside. There was Lisha. She was hiding, shaking and afraid. ´´It's okay,´´ I told her. ´´But we have to go now.´´

Lisha and I carefully avoided the commotion as we made our way up. Soon we broke the water's surface, to gain a better view of what was happening. And what a horrid sight it was. A whole fleet of ships was sailing toward us. Cannons were blasting, armed pirates were jumping into the sea, and their tattered Jolly Roger was blowing in the wind.

Sailing off

The sun had floated away into the horizon, and the moon now hung brightly in the sky. Twinkling stars began to come out from their hiding in the clouds, sprinkling the sky like sugar.

´´Well, I better be getting home now,´´ you say. "It was really nice meeting you."

´´Great meeting you too!´´

You pick yourself up and brush the sand off your clothes.

´´Oh! Wait a second...´´

Fantaysiah slid toward the water and dove in. Less than a minute later, she returned to the surface. With a toss of her head, shaking the water from her mane, she climbed back onto the beach.

´´Here,´´

She held out a small picture in her gleaming green hoof.

´´Come visit me again sometime, or tell your friends to stop by.´´

´´Sure,´´ you reply happily, taking the picture from Fantaysiah. ´´Thank you.´´

´´You're welcome. Well, goodbye, guest.´´

´´Bye!´´

You turn around and begin walking along the tide. You look back for a moment to see Fantaysiah waving goodbye, and then continue on your way home.
