Sounds simple. It is. And he's right. I've had only 1 class in my life. I don't have tons of natural talent. But, as I've continued working, I've found that my memory and eye for "how things look" has gotten better, and I've learned so much.
Before, I was getting overwhelmed. I've learned to focus on one area at a time to grow. I also don't let other great art discourage me. I've learned to keep working on my own, and I've seen great improvement. I have farther to go, but I know I CAN do it.
You can too.
Natural talent isn't an art requirement; it's just a shortcut. Keep working, and you'll improve. Don't give up.
Whatever you do, do it because you love it, and work hard at it to make it the best effort YOU can do. There's always someone out there who's a better at something, but the only real person you have to compete with is YOURSELF.
