Hints and Tips

Arrr, Dubloons! You knew they would be in the Neopets TCG sooner or later. The One Dubloon Coin is the first Item that we have featured so far from the Maraqua set, and to be honest it's a fairly simple card, but one that could open up some interesting possibilities.

The coin is simply an Item, it has no other types, which means that it doesn't particularly work well with other cards. It only gives you one point in your bank (which isn't great by any means), and in a contest it only gives you +1 to all stats. In fact if it wasn't for its special mechanic, it would be fairly rubbish.

Any number of One Dubloon Coins can be discarded from your bank, and be replaced by another card of equal bankable value. If you had three of these coins in your bank you could discard all three and bank a 3-point Item or Equipment instead. You aren't gaining any more points by doing this, so what, you ask, is the point?

Firstly, there are items in the game that do special, magical things when they sit in your bank. Take the Totems for instance, like the Snarling Totem or the Shell Acara Totem. The Sloth Plushie will give your Villains a boost, and the Black Pearl is truly awesome in a Villain deck! The Dubloon lets you get these cards banked much faster.

Secondly, there can be a tactical advantage to have more items in your discard pile, they are more accessible there than your deck. Kauvara's Potion is among many cards that let you access your discard pile as if it were your hand.
