Pet Name: Lumariena
Frost tumbled gently from the clouds. The snowflakes spun like miniature ballets, nature mimicking the Sugar Plum Faerie's Waltz. It crusted itself on the window panes of Neohomes, creating elaborate, two-dimensional sculpures of ice.
Three sibling neopets were outside in the freezing temperatures, working and laughing together to finish building their Snowpet.
The oldest sister, Lumariena, stayed inside. It was on days like this - cold, rainless winter days - that the indoors appealed to her greatest. As a Christmas Shoyru, the Holidays were her favorite time of year. She just preferred to celebrate them with a hot drink and a comfortable chair. To her, it was just as pleasing as constructing a Snowpet out in the winter weather.
Luma sipped her Borovan from the steaming mug. The unique sweet taste simmered in her mouth slightly, then gradually cooled to a comfortable chocolatey flavour. The liquid slithered slowly down her throat, warming her from the inside.
She grasped the list in her left hand, reading slowly down the long number of names. Albert, Andrea, Angelica... it just kept going.
'Hhm. I wonder why Santa Paws couldn't handle the whole list by himself anymore,' she thought to herself. 'That Lupe was a always a canny old guy. Maybe there were just too many users. Or maybe the Raindorfs weren't cooperating this year. I'm so glad my shift is almost over.'
She shuffled down the list, putting checks by names in one of the two columns. They were labeled "Naughty" and "Nice." The majority of the names were labeled with checks in the "Nice" column. There were a few that were in the latter column, among them 'Hubrid Nox, Malkus Vile, Heermeedjet & Meeralouden, Roothless...' She knew that every one of those names would receive a nice, sooty-black present spelled 'C-O-A-L' in their stockings this year.
By the time she reached the end of her portion of the list, her Borovan mug was empty. A dribble of leftover chocolate remained at the bottom, but she decided it wasn't worth the effort to try and retrieve it.
She carefully re-rolled the long scroll of names, folded it, then placed it in an envelope with extreme care. She stamped it, and and wrote 'North Tip, Terror Mountain' on the front of the envelope. The Holiday-Express stamp she had placed should surely get it to the Big Man on time.
When she opened the front door, miniscule flakes of snow dusted her cheeks. Smiling, she pulled the faux-fur hood closer over her head, and walked towards the mailbox. She pushed the fragile paper into the cold metal tube, closed the door, and put the red flag up. Dusting her mittens, she walked back inside to the warmth once again.
Settling back into her chair, she gazed at her Borovan mug. Now that she thought about it, the empty cup was much like the holidays themselves. When it's empty, it's very interesting in and of itself. But when someone fills it with goodness and joy, it becomes fun for everyone.
Lumariena smiled to herself. She had done her part, as every Christmas Shoyru should. Now all she had to do was to sit back, and let the Big Man do his job.
