Breed: Usul

About lialinda_2005:
“Well, Dragon, I’m off,” I heard a cheerful voice proclaiming behind me. I turned to find myself staring into the crimson eyes of Grrp, my mutant ruki, as he shut the door to the neohome. He had a backpack clutched in his claws.

“So soon?” I asked him lightly, trying to conceal the disappointment in my voice. I don’t think I succeeded, but in any case he replied with his usual argument that he could never stay in one place for long, he was a wanderer after all. The road was where he belonged.

Linda, the adopted Tyrannian Usul who had been sitting next to me near the garden got a wistful look in her sharp green eyes and ambled away, her mind in other places.

Grrp gave me a hug good-bye, even through his eagerness to be gone. I felt the familiar bone-hard creases of his exoskeleton beneath my hands as he pulled away, glancing after Linda.

“What’s up with her?” He asked, antennae bobbing slightly. He slung the pack onto his shoulders and donned his usual wide-brimmed hat, his robotic petpet settled happily on top of it.

“She misses her home,” I replied knowingly. Linda had removed the bone from her hairpiece and had begun fiddling with it in her paws.

Grrp blinked, reaching up to remove the petpet from his head and place it on his shoulder. “I thought this was her home,”

I shook my head, watching as my usul carefully threaded the bone back in and hurried inside through the back door, no doubt headed to her room to be alone. My heart went out to her, separated from everything she knew and loved.

“I mean her original home. Tyrannia,”

“Oh,” He said sympathetically. I knew that homesickness was a foreign feeling for him, always on the road with no particular destination other than to see the sights. He’d told me the other day that he’d been planning to venture to Terror mountain this time. But you never knew with Grrp, one moment he would be heading for one end of Neopia, and the next the other. “But Dragon, I thought you got her from the pound,”

“I did,” I explained. “I’m not sure exactly what happened, but somehow she was taken away from her family and friends in Tyrannia and brought here, to the pound. When I saw her sitting there so sadly in the cage, and a mob of people running towards her with practically drooling expressions on their faces, I adopted her.”

“Gosh,” Grrp fluttered his wings, anxious to get moving but inclined to go and comfort Linda.

His face suddenly brightened. “I have an idea!” He announced. “Why don’t I take Linda back to visit Tyrannia!?”

At first, it seemed like an excellent idea, but my heart fell eventually. “But Grrp, what if she wants to stay?”

He blinked. “Well, then I guess she’ll stay. She really misses Tyrannia, you know.”

I did know. I sighed sadly, but nodded. He grinned and ran inside, yelling Linda’s voice at the top of his lungs.

I heard some muffled conversation, and then Linda emerged, grinning from ear to ear.

She had large bag over her shoulder, and ran over to be and crushed me in a hug. “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!” She squealed. It was that moment that I knew I’d made the right decision, Linda was happy.

And that was good enough for me.
