Pet Name: Philippa_Uggabugga
Her name was Philippa... and she was a Tyrannian. Even if, sometimes, it was hard to believe. She was used to be considered an oddity by many people since she was a child. After all, she was different. Philippa's father was a son of Tyrannia: a huge and sturdy man from the Plateau. Her mother, however, was a regular little red Elephante. They were like chalk and cheese.
Philippa was not Tyrannian by birth, since she had been born in Neopia Central. Her parents had moved many years ago in search of opportunities, and they still lived there. But she had inherited from her father two powerful tusks and a strong body-build. Her skin was thick and covered with brown fur. She was a true Tyrannian, and proud of her roots.
She had been to Tyrannia many times, learning about its geography and culture. Her father and some of her relatives had taught her their language, including some rare dialects. She had been shown their most unknown traditions, their simple and natural way of life. She liked Tyrannian petpets and gastronomy. However, she knew her place was not there.
Tyrannian people were friendly and good natured, and they did not need a lot to be happy. She admired those Neopets of humble habits, independent and clever in their own way. They were sometimes thought to be primary and stupid. From her point of view, they knew a lot about life. But she had grown up in a different world, with art centres, big book shops, libraries and malls.
As she was a restless young intellectual with a great appetite for books, if she had to move, she would rather move to Brightvale, the kingdom of infinite knowledge. She would feel miserable in Tyrannia, where most Neopets couldn't read; and it was quite hard to find someone who spoke any languages apart from their mother tongue. Admittedly, she also loved looking pretty. She did not feel comfortable dressing in crude fur clothing. Summing up, she soon resolved to keep showing off her Tyrannian pride... at home.
And she kept showing off her pride. Once Philippa got old enough, she decided to start doing Translation Studies. As it is obvious —since she was bilingual— she chose to specialize in Tyrannian languages. In her spare time she enjoyed reading good books, but also attempting to bring her two worlds closer. Sometimes, she liked working with Tyrannian pupils, teaching them to read and write, as well as introducing them to some basics of the language known as General Neopian. Now and then, however, her students came from Neopia Central and other neighbouring areas. They wanted to master the tongue of Tyrannia; and she tried to get them interested in Tyrannian culture.
As her little business started to thrive, her parents' modest house grew too small for Philippa. She needed a bigger classroom for her students, and her immense library was invading the sitting room. It was about time to become independent, so she started looking for a new home. That is when, during a visit to the market place, she met a new best friend: Zimelda the Ogrin.
Destiny had spoken. Zime's Neohome still had room for Philippa, and the Elephante moved out. She met Sara —who became her caring owner— and also Reed, a funny little red Buzz. She felt like she had found a brand new family. Everybody there was attentive and lovely... excepting Reed in the mornings, of course. But Philippa could handle that.
Because she knew she could live like that forever. She loved her studies, her job and her friends. She belonged there, but she was a Tyrannian... and that was how it should be, after all.
A little grunt woke her up from her daydream as she typed in her typewriter. Reflecting about her own life was fun, but her petpet was starting to be hungry. The tiny Mazzew —a gift from her uncle, a pleasant old veterinarian named Pacha— might not be the smartest creature in Neopia, but he knew that HE HAD TO EAT.
Philippa picked him up. "I know, Tenny. I know. You want some of these meaty rock pebbles, don't you? Don't be impatient, honey. I'm just finishing this..."
She added some last words to her story. And she smiled.
