- Today's Pet Spotlight -

Pet Name: Daphli
Owner: loba_negra
Breed: JubJub

About Daphli:
You lean back in your chair as the next entrant comes onstage. It's getting later in the day and you'd like to go home. Still, you have a job to do. And you can't disappoint all these waiting pets. But by now you're beginning to wonder if any of them really deserve to win the Pet Spotlight.

The next entrant suddenly comes scampering onto the stage. You're surprised to see a rather average JubJub with sunny yellow fur and freckles splattered across her face. Still, her deep blue eyes seem to sparkle with determination. You watch as she hops up to the microphone, still adjusted for the Chomby who proceeded her. She stands on her tippy-toes to knock the microphone down and catch it in her foot. You can't help but be impressed by her ingenuity.

"Umm... hello?"

She mutters into the microphone but the noise is muffled. She taps it with her foot causing a loud screech.

"Hello?"

This time her voice echoes clearly through the auditorium. She seems pleased with herself as she begins.

"Umm... hello, everyone. My name is Daphli. And I'd really like to win the Pet Spotlight. I know I'm not the fanciest pet in Neopia. I'm not painted a super fancy color, or a super rare species; in fact I'm a kind of overlooked species. Ever since I was little I've blended in with the crowd. I'd meet Krawks and Draiks who were constantly swamped by admirers. All the while I was just trying not to get stepped on."

She clears her throat before continuing. It's clear she's wrestling with her nerves.

"When my mom finally got access to the Secret Laboratory, she offered to zap me. She thought that maybe I'd turn into a super rare color or species. I thought about it for a little while, but soon decided it just wasn't for me. I was a yellow JubJub. I was born this way, and I didn't want to be anything else. It was then that I decided I was going to make people notice me. I was going to follow my dreams, regardless of who or what stood in my way."

She fluffs up her fur as confidence seems to overwhelm her doubts. Her voice raises a little louder and prouder.

"So I made a list of everything I wanted to do with my life. Then I set about accomplishing every one. I wanted to be published in the Neopian Times... so I wrote an article, and I sent it in. And sure enough I got in. In fact, I've gotten in three times now. My next goal was to be in the Altador Cup. While I haven't accomplished it yet, I've been working hard at getting closer. I saved up for a really long time and eventually bought my own Yooyu. Her name is Rosie, and I love her very much. We practice every day so one day I can become a great Yooyuball champion. It's going to be a lot of work, but I enjoy every minute of it. Because I know one day all my work will pay off and everyone will know my name, and know that I am an important Neopet. Even if I'm not painted or limited edition."

She takes a deep breath as she examines the faces of the audience. While you can't speak for everyone, you know you're certainly intrigued by the spunky little critter.

"Anyway... right now, I'm working on checking something else off of my list. To win the Pet Spotlight. And... I hope everything I've said so far has helped show that I deserve this honor. And, if not, I know I'll be back. I'm going to try again. Because I'll do whatever it takes to make all my dreams come true."

She starts to set the microphone down, but she suddenly snatches it pack up.

"Oh! And I want to thank everyone for their time and attention. Really, thank you."

She flashes one last smile before setting down the microphone and hopping off of the stage. She seems confident in her speech and in herself. And something in the back of your mind tells you you'll see her again. Whether it be in the Neopian Times, in the Altador Cup, or just out shopping. There's no escaping this tenacious JubJub.
