Random Contest Winners!
Every week or so we have a new Random Contest. The rules and events vary from competition to competition. Below are the winners from the last contest. If you'd like to enter the current contest, wander on over to the Random Contest submission form and have a look at what the currently silly task is. If you think you're up for it, give it a shot and submit your entry.
All Hallows Eve approaches...
With the approach of Halloween, everyone needs to start decorating! Your task for the next couple of weeks is come paint a picture that is Neopian and Halloween themed, but the catch is that it needs to be in a folk art style (This can be folk art from anywhere around the world, but please keep it to painting). They can have villains, ghosts, or sweet Neopets trick or treating. Your submission should include a picture of your final painting/illustration. Please tell us what your painting is of and what you used to create it in the description. We will judge entries on creativity, fun, and their overall awesomness. :)
Five winners receive the Random Contest avatar, 10,000 NP and an item of DOOM.
The Night of Halloween
My Painting is of a lone Kacheek trick-or-treating in the graveyard full of Ghostkerchief. It's done in a style of a monochromatic Chinese Painting. I use a range of materials including Japanese Rice Paper and a Chinese poem I wrote myself. Translates to 'The full moon hangs high in the night sky. Ghosts wander the dirt streets. I ask where the treats arebut gets no answer - all I see are graves, ghosts and bone.
Brain Tree folk art
I used a computer and some paper for this folkartisch neopets themed picture : )
I painted Balthazar holding a faerie using watercolors :)
Delft Blue Halloween
My picture shows two ghosterchief at a graveyard trying to scare people. They're surrounded by a halloween themed border. I painted it a style called Delfst blauw (Delft blue). A tradional Dutch style used to decorate pottery objects and with blue and white acrylic paint, canvas and brushes I created a Delft Blue Halloween 'tile'.
My art piece is entitled "Stolen Treats" and is a painting done entirely with acrylic on a 12 by 16 inch canvas. I painted this in the style of Mexican folk art - using bold colors dominated by ochre red, burnt orange and various yellows accented by turquoise. Like most traditional Mexican folk art, I wanted to tell a story with my painting. Here, we see a Halloween grundo who is pointing at his candy thief! It's a Halloween eyrie, perched high atop the Brain Tree. Several Halloween Neopets run and try to catch the eyrie. Will it be too late?
Ten lucky people have 5,000 NP, the Random Contest avatar and an item whizzing their way.
Lost In The Forest Of Dark Roses
I just had to choose the well known folkart-style from my home country, Norway: "Rosemaling". I used pictures of my grandparents old furniture decorated with rosemaling as inspiration. I then painted it on a wooden plate with Acrylic paint. Its supposed to be my pet Zifa, lost in some scary haunted woods.
Halloween Pteri Riding a Spook
Painted using acrylic paints on 11x14 Canvas depicting a Pteri decorated for Halloween riding on a ghost/spirit/spook at night.
The Esophager is hungry...
Depicted is the Esophager blending into the shadows to lie in wait for unsuspecting trick-or-treaters. He's hungry .. and he wants candy. Painted with acrylic paint. Happy Halloween :)
A Kacheek, A Pant Devil and A Ghost
This picture shows a Kacheek dressing up as a Wizard running away from Pant Devil who is trying to steal her candies (the Kacheek's candy bag has a hole and has candies falling out from the bag but guess it's a bit small to see) with a pumpkin on the bottom right corner grinning evilly and a glowing orange moon as the background with bats flying around. A ghost is wondering around, trying to scare people. I use Acrylic Ink and Watercolor to paint on the canvas with a bit of gesso mix with water on the moon. I use a straw to blow the black ink in order to form 'branches' on the tree (but also edit a bit using small brushes).
Trick or Treat in the Neopian Hills
First I sketched out my idea on canvas using a pencil. Then using Acrylic paints I created my Trick or Treating scene.
A Tale of Woe - In seeing that the random contest was folk art, I decided to honor my German heritage with my attempt at producing "A Tale of Woe" in Bauernmalerei or peasant painting. In addition to birds, flowers and other colourful scenes German folk art has many dancing dogs in Lederhosen so, combining that with the Halloween theme, it seemed only natural to paint Bruno. I took a bit of artistic liberty with placing Ednas tower on a cliff, but it seems that Bruno prefers that to running through town with potions. I used a 16 X20 canvas and acrylic paints.
Polish Folk Art Style Xweetoks
This picture was painted in Polish Folk Art Paper Cutouts style. I chose to draw Halloween Xweetoks because their my favourite neopets. To make this I used a pencil, black marker and some crayons.
Egypt's Trick or Treat
Using Egyptian and NC inspired works, I created Cinary trick or treating. Using modern Egyptian letters (spelling out happy halloween)and ancient "standards" (the lines showing depth instead of real depth). I used Acrylics and watercolors to give the page "age" and colors. I also used ink to draw and outline the images. The door in the back is inspired from NC mall's Trick or Treat background. Marked and drawn/painted 100% by me. I had to downgrade the picture after I cropped it to a lower quality ;/ On the bright side: Happy Halloween everyone!
Trick or Treat Haunted Woods
This is an acrylic painting on paper of a vintage Halloween inspired folk Meowclops. He is wandering through the Haunted Woods finding tricks and treats!
Spooky, Spooky Night
I used some kind of paint my sister had, regular printer paper, what little artistic ability I possess, and brushes. It's somewhere in the haunted woods with a clearing, and there's some spooky pets under the creepy moon with a lantern.
Lastly there were 17 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.
