Contest:
Paper with Relief

There seem to be piles of paper surrounding us here at the Neopets Team Headquarters... Your task for the next week is to create a Neopets themed bas-relief sculpture from paper. The sculpture should have a floating effect to it. These should be less than 1 cm deep. Your submission should include a picture of your sculpture that shows off the relief aspects of it. Please tell us what your sculpture is of in the description. We will judge entries on creativity, beauty, and how awesome they are. :)

First Place

One winner receives the Random Contest avatar, 10,000 NP and an item of DOOM.

Eyrie Flying Over Shenkuu
by ancientsecrets
Image depicts an eyrie flying in the skies above Shenkuu. Image made from layering and cutting to create a 3D Bas-releif image.

Second Place

Eleven lucky people have 5,000 NP, the Random Contest avatar and an item whizzing their way.

Flight of the Faerie Pteri
by angel_of_heaven84
My entry is of a faerie pteri soaring cheerfully, high amongst the clouds. What makes this work challenging is the small size of the work. The black disc has a 12cm circumferance, so the pteri is very small, and getting in the details was quite challenging. Getting the beak perspective was also very challenging as I had to re-do a few times before I got it right.

Meepit!!!
by beilall
Since the task is themed bas-relief sculpture from paper, my piece of art is of course made by paper. I first cut the newspaper into pieces and wet with water. Afterwards put the pieces into a plastic lunch box to leave it to wait till dry. When it is completely dry, I paint on some diagrams and start carving.
1. Cut the newspaper into small pieces, the smaller the better, since it would be eaiser to be wet.
2. Put the pieces into water, rub them by hands to make them rotten. Do not forget to wear gloves.
3. After the rotten pieces completely dry, place them into a box. I pressed the box very hard, so my art piece will be durable and solid.
4. Place the piece at a ventilated place, wait till it is completely dry.Do not need to woryy about taking the paper block out of the plastic box, because it will shrink after it is dry. Eventually the paper block will escape from the box automatically.
5. Draw the diagram you desired on the paper block.
6. Cut through the contours of the diagram. Becareful on your fingers!
7. Gentlely and slowly dig out the surrodings of the diagram.
8. Dig out everything except the part with diagram.
9. DONE!!!

Mr. Krawley Bas-Relief
by dragon77306
This is my favorite Neopets villain. Mr. Krawley! He may be made of paper but don't expect any "relief" from him! ;)

Roberta vs. The Bone Draik
by erwneoten
This (very thin) sculpture, made from magazines, construction paper, copious amounts of glue and a tiiiny bit of glitter, depicts Roberta, hero of Brightvale, facing off against the Bone Draik, guardian of the treasure that lies in the catacombs beneath Merridel Castle. This scene was a boss fight in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.

Faerie Pteri
by gnomisa
My bas relief sculpture features a faerie pteri flying high over Faerieland. I used normal computer paper. In fact I reused old college junk mail to keep my entry eco-friendly. In the picture my sculpture is set on a background of robin egg's blue cotton fabric to give the effect of sky.

Kahokio Amongst Stars
by inkedanthropologist
A peace-loving Grundo hails Kahokio the Shoyru from his Kreludan spacecraft. Kahokio doesn't have time for small talk today. He whizzes past the little alien, a blue blur amid galaxies. He is on a mission to save the planet from inevitable destruction. A large meteor is headed straight for Brightvale. Far off, Neopians all over go about their chores, blissfully unaware of their hero's mission. He is a Shoyru of humility, Kahokio amongst stars.

Flutter - paper bas-relief
by kittykali
My paper bas-relief sculpture is inspired by a Neopets background featuring Flutter - a very beautiful Aisha. It's not completely accurate because I had to finish the project in one evening alone. Also it's my first time in the Random Contest and it took me a while to choose a "muse". :) Materials used: cutter, scissors, cutting mat, double-face adhesive tape, thick brown cardboard, iridescent paper (ivory, pink, blue, green) and vellum (red, dark red). The bas-relief is approx. 50mm deep.

Portrait of a Darigan Lupe
by lasdarkfirewolf
If anyone tells you that Darigan pets dislike the sunshine and heat, then they don't know LA. This is a portrait done of my Darigan Lupe,LAsDarkfireWolf, who loves the lost Desert. She loves nothing more than to be covered in the beautiful jewels the Lost Desert has to offer. Dressed in her best head dress with a fashionable collar, cuffs, jeweled wings, and lost desert wrap. She prides herself. She might not tell you just how much she loves Jazan's guyliner, or her contacts that match her eyes to her jewels.

Faerie Pteri
by lastavenger
Faerie pteri! ^^ Made using colored construction paper, scissors, and a glue stick.

Nereid's Afternoon Swim
by lights_neon_rave
Spanning 9 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide, this bas-relief sculpture is entirely made of paper with the exception of Nereid's eyelashes and pupils.

Kacheek Seek
by ramotswe
SweetRamotswe says: "Go on! Let's play hide and seek!" My Kacheek Sweet loves to play hide and seek. She's very good at it too. It usually takes me quite a while to find where she's hiding. This time she was hiding behind the curtains in her bedroom. Materials used: scrapbooking papers, craft knife, scissors, glue stick, ruler, black coloured pencil (to highlight the edges around the Kacheek), double-sided 2mm 3-D foam pads (I used 1-4 depending on how much floating effect I wanted to achieve).

Third Place

Lastly there were 16 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.
