Contest:
Just Hot Air

That's a lot of Hot Air!

Ah, sorry, we were just talking about a meeting we had recently. But on the topic of of hot air... We would like you to create a hot air balloon this week! You can use whatever you like to create the balloon, and if it floats you get bonus point! These should be Neopets themed, so the balloon and basket should have something Neopian about them. Ask for help from an adult if needed. Please tell us what what you used to make your ballon in the description. We will judge entries on creativity, deliciousness and how awesome they are. :)

First Place

Seven winners receive the Random Contest avatar, 10,000 NP and an item of DOOM.

Tutti Fruity Balloon Ride
by brownielauren900
Materials: paper, tape, glue, twine, brown paint, yellow paint, aluminum foil, modeling clay, dried grass, floral wire, latex balloon, and my Starry Chomby, Phil. I based this hot air balloon on the Hanging Fruit Basket. It's a comfortable way to ride across Neopia, and the fruit inside serve as a good snack for the hungry adventurer!

Ferocious Negg Hot Air Balloon
by chichikokoyamma
Made from oven-bake clay, yarn, and card board. Painted with acrylic paints. Held together with hot glue and ferocity!

Faerieland-Meepit-Balloon!
by jule_2005
I discovered the real reason why the Faerieland once floated: It was pinned to a balloon, which was flown by 3 GIANT faerie meepits! But Then the Meepits vanished, probably to fight a few Feepits. Since then, Faerieland is land-based next to the haunted woods. I created this hot balloon, because I like the color pink and I like faeries, so faerie Meepits seemed to be the best ones to represent my likings. First I taped a balloon to a toilet paper role and started to glue paper on it. I painted the Meepits, as well as the castle with acrylic colors. I braided the basket with white and pink paper stripes and glued the castle in front with some cotton. With white ribbon I secured the basket to the balloon. The last step was to fixate a tea light with cooper wire beneath the balloon and the Faerieland banner beneath the basket. Unfortunately my balloon was to heavy- it did not fly. This means no extra point for me :)

Altador Cup Adventurers
by needlepointress
After sailing the seas their entire lives, Krawk Island's Dasher Soley and Ealyn Hawkshanks decided to spend the off-season flying around Neopia in their pirate-themed hot air balloon. They proudly display their team's red and black stripes as well as the krawk skull and crossbones logo. The balloon's sandbags are even filled with dubloons, allowing the pirates to hide their treasure anywhere in Neopia while they fly overhead.
Everything was crocheted with worsted weight yarn according to my personal patterns.

The Cyodrake's Gaze
by ninjackson
This replica of the Cyodrake's Gaze, rendered using popsicle sticks, coloured paper, wire, and lots and lots of glue, evokes a sense of elegance and mystery akin to it's homeland, Shenkuu. Complete with missing Hoban ;)

Sophie's Stew Balloon
by pritkin
I chose this design because I love the game Sophie's stew and thought a meowclops head would make a great balloon. I used a balloon, newspaper, tissue paper, glue, a foam cup, wire, acrylic paint and tape to make it. Unfortunately it can't float on it's own so it's held up with some wire instead! Maybe Sophie could find a spell to make it fly!

Coltzan's Shrine Hot Air Balloon
by sara1elo
I choose Coltzan's Shrine because I wanted to try something different from the orbed and round hot air balloons. The shrine is made with paper sheets and the basket was created with an egg carton container. The passenger is a mummy watching the Lost Dessert from the air. Unfortunately this balloon does not float.

Second Place

Ten lucky people have 5,000 NP, the Random Contest avatar and an item whizzing their way.

Moltarian Escape!
by applejuicerain
After years of hard work the Crafting Faerie, with the help of Tangor and Lampwyck, finally finishes her air ship. Now it's the Neopians who are below the Moltarians! (Drawn on Photoshop, printed on cardstock, and glued together. Uses candles, bags, and string for the balloon. Flight worthy, but I was unable to take a good picture while it was in the air - it was windy and kept blowing away!)

Faerieland Balloon!
by biaisdead
Want new ways to go to Faerieland? Why don't you go on a Hot Air Balloon? You can enjoy a balloon trip to Faerieland in a comfy basket and view a beautiful sight of Neopia.

Meerca in a Meerca Balloon
by cawied
To make my balloon I used tissue paper to cover my balloon and floral wire for the strings. For my tail I used some cardboard and the basket a pipe cap. To make Melvin the Meerca and the balloon's eyes and nose I used some Sculpey. I used some foam to create the ears and a little more tissue paper. Of course I also used a balloon. So those are the materials I used to make my balloon.

The Jolly Techo
by glowphyre
I made this Pirate Techo nabbing some treasure from a pirate Gelert's treasure chest, from; a 36" helium balloon, twine, a party net, a little basket, birthday ribbon, model magic, paint, assorted d.i.y jewelry, two little boxes, cocktail skewers, a cocktail sword, a brass chain, gold sequins, hot glue, stickers, safety pins, cloth and some leather chord. Special thanks to my wonderful wife for all her support.

Kookith Balloon
by inoutje
My balloon was inspired by one of my favorite Petpets, the Kookith. I used materials I found around the house: for the Kookith I used cardboard, crepe paper and wrapping paper and I made the box out of paper, wool, string and little Novas.

Turtum High Time
by lavo0810
My entry is a turtum themed hot-air balloon. To make this I cut the shape of a shell out of a piece of cloth and attached it to the basket using thread. To the cloth I also attached a Meridell symbol to mimic the shell of a Turtum petpet. To make the basket I created pieces of card and taped them together, this was to create a light-weight box that could be lifted and float. I then drew and cut out a face of a Turtum and attached it to the front of the basket. I added some Neopets to the basket for the passengers.

Hasee Basket!
by lovelygirl225
This hot air balloon's inspiration was taken from the game hasee bounce! Because who doesn't want to have fun and play games while they're on a hot air balloon ride? Join the two little guys in their hot air balloon and have a great view of Neopia instantly! :)

The Snowager's Cold Air Balloon
by panda_girl555
The Snowager is currently sleeping...Do you want to venture in and try to steal some of its treasure? This Snowager balloon was lovingly crafted out of papier-mache (flour, water and newspaper), masking tape, acrylic paint, paper and string. I used an inflated balloon as a mold and cardboard to fashion the basket. After I painted the balloon and basket, I drew ‘treasures’ on paper and glued them to the basket. The treasure-stealing Aisha was printed and cut out. After attaching the basket with blue gimp string and threading clear string through the top balloon, the Snowager’s Cold Air Balloon was ready to fly!

Petpet Power
by snakesrok3
We all know angry pofews are full of hot air, right? This invention makes use of that power, using delicious ticklegum to make a herd of them to fly through the air.

Happy Birthday NC Mall!
by vanillagirl21
Happy fifth birthday to the NC Mall! What's a celebration with out lots and lots of balloons? For this balloon I used packing paper, blue construction paper, and orange spray paint. The basket was made by orange, blue, and yellow construction paper too, and inside are candles and decorations you could see on a cake! Sadly, the candles won't be able to be lit without creating a sort of a fire hazard, but enjoy!

Third Place

Lastly there were 29 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.
