Contest:
Short Story Jamboree

The Unlucky Blumaroo
by artex3000

The green Blumaroo's heart beat faster as the die fell out of his hand and hit the table. The horrible black face of the skull and crossbones stared up at him. The six measly neopoints in his pot were swiped away, and the message, "Oh dear, that means Game Over :( You lose all the Neopoints in your pot :(" showed up for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. The Blumaroo was confused. Dice-A-Roo was the Blumaroo's game. Why was he so awful at it? The most he had ever won playing was ten neopoints, and he had never made it past the second die. He was just unlucky. He could never win. Sadly, the poor, lonely Blumaroo turned to leave, but stopped just outside the door when he saw something on the ground.

Something has Happened!
Some messy person has dropped five neopoints on the ground! You pick them up.

He picked up his meager findings and held them in the palm of his hand. He turned back towards the Dice-A-Roo building. I might as well spend it here, he thought.

Knowing he would leave the place no richer than he was right now, he opened the door and walked over to the counter. He rolled the red dice and won a few neopoints, but he knew that at any time the dreaded skull and crossbones would pop up again. But it didn't. He made it to the second die. He won a few more neopoints. He made it to the third die. And the fourth! He couldn't believe it! He held his breath and rolled the die one more time. It seemed to take a whole minute to land on the table. When it did, he slowly opened his eyes and looked down upon the yellow die.

You've made it to the next die!

He almost jumped for joy! He had never in his life made it this far. He felt it. He was getting closer. Hi had quite a bit in hi pot now, but he wanted to win the jackpot. He came so close a few times, but never made it. Then, in frustration, he threw the die down onto the table. It bounced off the surface and rolled onto the floor. He jumped off his seat and ran after it. It stopped in the corner of the room and he peered down at it.

Jackpot.

He stood frozen for ever. He couldn't take his eyes off the die. Finally he had won. He had won! He had won the jackpot! He jumped for joy and ran around the room singing! It was the happiest day of his life.

Now if you go down to the Dice-A-Roo, you won't see the green Blumaroo. No, instead you'll see a beautiful fire Blumaroo, trying to win his second jackpot.
