Owner: silver_winged_falcon
Pet Name: Taevo_1505
Breed: Quetzal

About Taeza:
I wasn't always as well off as I am now. In fact it took a long time for me to get here, snoozing on Taevo's head.

I hatched in a box at the back of a store, next to the eggs of my siblings. The first few days were spent exploring the cardboard corners of the box and quickly snapping up the grubs that were dropped in. During the nights we all curled up together to keep warm.

We woke up one morning as the box was picked up and carried off. We rose up as tall as we could, peering up at the Kougra, flickering our tongues as we were overwhelmed by new smells. He put the box down and then disappeared from view, but we barely noticed, all the new smells, the light and the sounds had captured most of our attention.

Some of the light reached down into one of the corners, and while my siblings were trying to reach up high to the top of the box I crawled over to it.

For the first time I felt the warmth of the sun on my scales as I curled up in that corner and I fell in love with it right away. I dozed off and didn't wake up again until I was picked up from the box later that day. I blinked sleepily and peered around, eyeing the Lupe holding me and two of my siblings. She barely looked at us, just put us in a new, much smaller box and took us away. We curled up in the darkness and waited.

We heard voices, but we couldn't make out what they were saying. They were loud, one voice kept repeating itself over and over again: "Going once, going twice. Sold!"

Suddenly our box was opened, and we closed our eyes at the sudden light.

"Three Quetzals, sold separately, bidding starts at 500!" the voice said loudly, and was followed by other loud voice. Again we couldn't make out much. A few minutes later I saw my siblings get carried off by different owners as I was handed over to a Lenny, then into yet another box, back into the darkness.

I was put in a cage on top of a shelf, which was a step up, now I had at least a bit of light and fresh air. Looking around at the cages near my I saw a wide collection of other Petpets. A Mallard was pressing up against it bars looking back at me. It tilted its head, quacked, and then turned away, which was just as well, I wasn't in the mood for friendly chitchat.

My stay at the Lenny's shop was brief, and that was all my life was, brief stays in shops, sometimes leading to the Auctions. Once or twice I was traded for some other Petpet. I'm not sure how much time passed, a year, maybe two, long enough for me to block out the rest of the world. It was just darkness for me, boxes and cages, rough and uncaring hands.

"One Quetzal, bidding starts at 100!" I barely listened; it was the third time my current owner put me up for auction, always the same thing. No one would bid; I'd hear angry voices and be put up for auction again the next day at a lower price.

Silence. No bids. Not one.

I curled up, hiding my face from the pressing darkness.

Then, I heard a soft voice through the box.

"I'll take it" I raised my head. Something was different. The voice didn't carry the trace of greed that others had when they thought they found a good bargain.

"Come, little one, let's get you out of there." A scaly wing picked me up, and I gazed up at a pair of kind eyes.

"You're a pretty thing, aren't you?" he said, gently stroking my neck as he moved away from the Auction House.

It was late in the evening and very dark outside, but for some reason the darkness seemed to stay clear of the Hissi. His scales were glowing brightly, giving off a warmth that was similar to the warmth I had felt so long ago, lying in the sunbeam. I chirped happily at him, crawling from his wing up to his head and settled down upon it.

Never again would I have to be alone in the darkness.
