Sea King looked up from his Grarrl Comic to face his enthusiastic owner. It was one of those lazy but comfortable Saturdays, the kind where the sun streams in, lovingly blankets you in a sleepy warmth, and peacefully lulls you to a slow sleep. Sea King had already finished his daily visit to the training school, so there was nothing else to do. "A special treaaat!" his owner sang proudly, thrusting a cowering peadackle in front of his snout. Its metal beak clicked several times nervously, and its bright red eyes (which strangely matched the Robot Jetsam's perfectly) darted uncomfortably as if looking to escape. Unfortunately, Sea King's owner kept an iron grip on its tail, preventing any hope of a runaway. Sea King set down his comic book and looked his owner with a confused but interested look. He glanced at the peadackle, and back at his guardian again. "Uh... mom? What is that?" "Why, you silly fish, it's a peadackle—a type of maraquan petpet. Darling, I’m giving it to you to eat. If you eat it, I can get an avatar and you get a delicious meal. It's a win-win situation. So here!" Impatiently, the owner held the now crying peadackle, expecting her pet to take it. "I-I have to e-eat this?" "What's wrong? I thought you were tired of eating omelettes." "No, it's not that... I'd just never thought I'd have to eat something you know, uh, still moving," With sense of reluctancy, Sea King outstretched his metal fin and gently grasped the sobbing. What an amazingly brilliant being, Sea King admired. It felt so alive, clawing restlessly around his fins. It was so tiny, fragile, and so delicate. It was kind of cute too... The Robot Peadackle also possesed an uncanny resemblance to himself, a feeling he could not shake off. It was hard to admit to himself, but he was afraid. A mighty jetsam like himself, one that ruled the seas, one that bared his frightening teeth at any opponent, afraid to eat a prey! Oh, how his jetsam friends would laugh! "What's wrong? You don't look so happy." "Mom, I don't think I can eat this." "What? Why?" "Look how sad it is, I can't help it--I feel bad for it. Plus, I don't think I couldn't think I could eat anything that is so forlorn looking. I couldn't live with the guilt." "Why Sea King, of all your Jetsam excuses, that's the silliest thing I've heard," his owner giggled, "I never thought you wouldn’t have it in you!" "I know," Sea King replied, grinning sheepishly, "Hey... can I keep it as a petpet? Please?" "Oh, if you insist. Fine, you can keep it." "Really?! Thanks so much, Mom!" Sensing that it wasn't going to be dinner after all, the peadackle brightened and whirred happily. He pecked his new best friend in the fin, leapt off the grasp of the Jetsam, and motored delightedly around in circles. "Ouch, come back here, you little rascal!" Sea King laughed, playfully chasing the little ball of energy whizzing around the house. Sea King's owner couldn't help but smile. It was odd seeing her pet who usually enjoyed battling and bullying others weaker than him, chase a peadackle around like an innocent youngling. "Oh Sea King," she mused to herself, "You may have an outer layer of steel but inside, you are filled with pure cotton."
