With the help of his brave Nuranna, Jim, Ash assists Prof. Shell (a self-proclaimed "Evil Genius") with her daily experiments in the secret lab at Rubber Plant Castle. And though he may stutter frequently and cover his ear holes during the louder explosions in the lab, he makes quite an evil genius in the making. The professor expresses the young scholar's prowess in one of her q&a sessions titled, "The Egor Equation: Why Evil Minions are so Hard to Find":
So what if de little rubber one creates de, aah…How do you say it? Ah! Fetal position in de corners once a while? He is an expert in mathematics, especially useful when having de difficulties calculating de volume of liquid from mass jelly-I mean- mass slorg slime production...(Shell, Cyanea, 2010).

Besides performing his normal assistant duties, Ash enjoys swimming, reading, collecting bubble wrap, and occasionally rocking back and forth while mumbling theories of Neopia's impending demise.
