The archetypal Byronic hero, Galleno is sarcastic, cynical, and witty; but also vain, arrogant, and full of angst. He gives the impression of holding most people in disdain, but is quite chivalrous towards women. His charisma, good looks and charm have made him quite the ladies' man. He never forms emotional attachments for more than a short period of time, if at all, though that changes when he first meets Patniss.

Beneath Galleno's flippant exterior lies a soul in constant torment. He is filled with a deep-seated rage that he keeps in check most of the time and which he channels into fighting in battles and improving his skills as a Knight.

On the other side, Galleno is a very passionate individual, and when he falls in love with Patniss, he does so quite deeply. His conceited exterior hides a deep inner hatred which intensifies after he learns that he's part of a deadly plot that will only destroy him and those he cares about.
