Having lost both her parents at a very young age, Ellen, better known as "Elbele" grew up in a Roo Island orphanage. She liked it at the orphanage. She was treated well, and the people there were her friends and family. Still, an independent lifestyle, she thought at the time, would be like a dream. Nobody to tell you what to eat, when to sleep and how to dress, that was the life for her. So as soon as she turned sixteen, (Roo Island age of majority) Elbele set off on her own, and ended up getting a job at a place called Annie's Bed & Breakfast. There she worked as a maid, which she thought was the single most boring job in the world. She soon began to think of ways to make work more interesting, but attaching scrub brushes to your feet and putting on your own "ice" show, while you scrubbed the floor, was not the way to earn your employer's trust, she discovered. After being called "the one that never grew up" one too many times, Elbele went from mischievous and childish, to careless and lazy. After all, if you couldn't have fun on the job, what was the point in even doing it?
As the year at Annie's went on, however, she began to work harder. At first the changes were small, like she would actually get up on time, but eventually she started getting up even before she was supposed to! She helped with extra chores, kept her daydreaming to her own time, and her pranks to a minimum. Nobody knew what caused the sudden change. It could be that she finally grew up, or that she just got tired of being yelled at. Whatever it was, everyone liked the new Elbele, including herself. Of course, she wasn't planning on being a maid forever! She had goals now, and her whole future ahead of her to achieve them. She was going to go to Mystery Island, where her only living relatives were. But she wasn't going to stop there! She wanted to travel all over Neopia. Then maybe she would really know where her friend Chenzay got all her freaky souvenirs from. She knew that her goal was a long way off, but until then, she would continue to smile, (whether it was grown-up or not) and be the hardest worker Annie's had ever seen. Maybe she could even get the others to have some fun....
