Quote of the Week

"Though he couldn't turn from the light, the loss of his love broke him. His heart grew cold and he learned the arts of death. When he was encountered again, he had changed from a warm person into a ruthless assassin." -Unknown author, The Nameless Assassin, text found in the Rathbone Family Crypts, circa Y7

Five Avatar Collecting Pitfalls

As an experienced avatar collector, I have run into many roadblocks along my journey, and after reading the stories of other avatar collectors, I have found that they have had similar problems. In this article, I will take you through the five most common problems I have seen collectors face—problems that I have run into multiple times along my journey, and that I continue to face. For each problem, I will offer a solution that I have found to be consistently successful. If you keep these points in mind, you too can achieve the Avatar Collector Avatar!

Greatest Game Ever Played (Probably)

With this article, I will have been published a total of 11 times. And since this issue of the Times comes hot on the heels of #700, I feel like I owe you all something a bit personal, deeper—some sort of reflection on myself as your fellow Neopian, y'know? I'm going to tell you a story about Cheat!, about a single game that I once watched Xenon play. It took less than ten minutes, and yet it stands head and shoulders above all else as the embodiment of what a roller coaster my decade-plus here has been.

Neopia's Most Beloved Trophies

Hundreds of games have been played since the discovery of Neopia seventeen years ago. Each game comes with a prize to the highest scorers – a unique trophy that captures the spirit and challenge of the game. We will be taking a look at the game trophies that best represent the games they are awarded for, as well as tips on how to add these lovely trophies to your collection!

"Adventures in Lutari Island" by dunefurandlilypelt
Alyssa the Camouflage Uni stared out the window of the Neohome she lived in with her siblings. She longed to be outside, exploring the jungle like she always loved to do. That day, her mom was in Altador celebrating her cousins' birthdays, so Alyssa's oldest brother was in charge. The Uni was the youngest of her family, but she was also the sneakiest and most resourceful one. Grinning, Alyssa silently slid open her window. She dotted down a quick note that read, "Gone adventuring. I'll try to be back for dinner!", and flew out the window. She closed the window, took a deep breath, and smiled. Alyssa loved nature. And despite the rampant storms all around Lutari Island, where she lived, there was never a gloomy day. Alyssa figured she'd better head into the jungle soon or else Adam, her oldest brother, would catch her and send her into her room again. "Where to go today?" Alyssa whispered. She knew the land like the back of her hooves; she even had several hand-made maps of the island. "Ooh! I know, I'll go to the feather pools," she decided, and started to fly south. It took quite a while to get there, and Alyssa had to take quite a few stops, but finally she reached one of the most pristine places on the whole island: the feather pools.

"Eternal Diva" by orisasda
It was night on the Tyrannia Plateau and even from miles away you could hear the noise from fans at the concert hall, screaming for their favourite bands and song artists. And in one of the dressing rooms, a striped Hissi with blond hair was getting ready for her own performance. Her name was Faith Handler, but her stage name was Whispered Faith. She was a singing diva and pop idol. She had many fans and she adored the crowds of people who came to listen to her. But she was always haunted by one thing, even though she was only 21 years old she still thought that she was getting old. She had been singing for her fans since she was 18 years old, first in a band called Impurity, then out on her own. But she hated that she would only ever get older and the older she got, the harder it would be to maintain her career. She stared at herself as her make up artist put on her signature heavy eye make up and sighed. She swore she could see wrinkles forming. Faith wished she could be young and beautiful forever. She was about to get that wish in the worse way imaginable. Whispered Faith glided onto the stage with microphone in one silk gloved hand. "Hello, people of Tyrannia and beyond! Are you ready to dance and shake with your favourite diva, me?" She said into it with a bubbly voice. Roars of agreement came from the massive crowd. Her devoted fans. "Alright then! Let's get this show started Faithlings!"

"You Had One Job" by quanticdreams
Jhudora? Jhudora, I am here. I am speaking directly into your left ear, and you do not notice. I should tell you these things in a perceivable form, but I imagine you would be very upset to find I have been living in your house. I remain in the shadows. That’s the name the flesh have given me. The Shadow Usul, they whisper. They are wrong, but I do not object. But this isn’t about me. This is about you. Listen, Jhudora, do you really want to live your life like this? Stumbling through a hazy stupor and over hoards and hoards of useless junk? Sometimes, as I lurk in the back of your closet, your tacky, fake fingernails almost brush my fur as you reach for one of those identical gowns on your way to return to a dead-end life. Do you know how many bugs live in your house, Jhudora? I do. I gave every one a name, and I tell them where to lay their eggs. So do not get on my bad side, because my fury is vast and dark and expressed in a smashed dresser in your pile of junk in the woods! You’ll never find it, though. You never go back there, not all the way. I can’t find a pattern to anything in that stupid pile. Overturned smoothies, moth-eaten plushies. It’s a mess back here. Some places I can’t even go in because of the stench. I don’t even have a nose. How did you do that? You had one job! You somehow managed to screw it up!

Fire-Born: Part Three
The group of Neopets and their owner stared at the Blue Peophin who had been caught trying to kidnap Vineti, a Chocolate Aisha. It was the middle of the night, and according to the Peophin, his boss would know if they went to the Chia Police.

“Should I still go?” Kata asked uncertainly. Lina looked at Vineti before answering.
