More to Mr. Monotony?
TYRANNIA - It's a hot day in Neopia, and you decide to brave a trip to Tyrannia,
hoping to be entertained. After all, you and your Neopet have already been to
every other place; Kreludor is out of the question, because you don't have enough
to hire the transport to get there. After visiting the Tyrannian Flotsam who
runs the Wheel of Mediocrity, you walk away with your new-found riches. Maybe
stop to play a few games of Tyrannu Evavu, take a few guesses at Grarrl Keno.
That's when your Neopet tugs at your sleeve, taking you by their paw and dragging
you towards the Tyrannian Plateau. It seems that they have found something interesting;
as they pull you past the Giant Omelette and Concert Hall, you begin to question
them. Eventually, they stop beside the Wheel of Monotony, a puppy-dog expression
on their face.
You can't resist. That's why, two hours later, you're still sitting by the
Wheel of Monotony, wondering if that 100 Neopoints you gave up was worth it.
Eventually, the spinner stops. You gladly take your prize, rather miffed it
wasn't a paint brush, before stalking off, mumbling to yourself. Your Neopet
looks behind you and points out that the Tyrannian Quiggle looks rather sad,
now you've left. You can't help but wonder if there's something about the Wheel
of Monotony, something that nobody ever notices. However, it seems that your
Pet's attention has dissipated as they are hopping around the Ticket Booth,
yelling for you to come here quickly because there are only one hundred tickets
left to see Sticks N' Stones.
Does that sound familiar? If it does, then this is the article for you. Throughout
the rest of this article, I hope to explain why the Wheel takes so long to stop,
and maybe even advise you on what to do while you wait. To discover the truth,
Aceqo (my pet Shoyru) suggested that we interview Mr Monotony himself. The less
than famous Tyrannian Quiggle, who always looks sad when you leave him in favour
of playing Destruct-O-Match.
Before we set out to interview the Tyrannian Quiggle, I had my suspicions.
Have you ever noticed how he always seems so much happier when you're waiting
with him, or how he always offers you a cup of hot dung? The way that when you
doze off during the long waiting period, that you always wake up with an old
musty blanket around you? It's because he enjoys your company. The Quiggle is
obviously lonely. Because of this, maybe you should try to show your anger when
the spinner is clicking away, and you feel like you're going to go insane at
Now, I can tell you're dying to know the results of the interview, right? Well,
without any more stalling on my part here is the interview. Read them below.
Aceqo: Hello. Mind if me and Yuna here ask you a few questions?
Monotony: Okay. This is obviously going to take some time, so take a spin on
me. *spins on the wheel*
Aceqo: Why thank you! Now... What made you want to make your own Wheel, here
Monotony: Muh... I don't know, really. *looks uneasy* I had a lot of items
spare, and I didn't have enough to make my own shop so I decided to make a wheel.
Aceqo: Interesting. Don't mean to be rude, but do you have any idea as to why
the wheel takes so long to stop spinning?
Monotony: Not really. *sips a mug of hot dung, before offering Aceqo a mug
Aceqo: Do you have any family?
Monotony: No... *gulps* They all left me when I was a little Quiggle.
Aceqo: I'm sorry...
Monotony: It's alright... *sniffles*
Aceqo: I can't help noticing that you have such nice prizes. How come the fee
is only 100 Neopoints?
Monotony: It's compensation for the wait, I suppose. *shrugs*
Aceqo: Nice. Anything else you'd like to add?
Monotony: My Wheel is found in the Tyrannian Plateau, for those of you who
don't know. Feel free to drop by sometime.
Aceqo: We will.
With that, we took our prize (A Petpet Paint Brush) and left Mr. Monotony in
peace. Maybe this article is what he needs; a bit of publicity. We didn't forget
to send a bunch of flowers in the post, though. It was the least we could do
for digging up the dirt on his family. Poor Quiggle...
Anyway, as I promised earlier, here are a few suggestions as to what you can
do while the wheel is restlessly spinning. They *may* improve your entertainment.
- Watch your Neopet talk to its Petpet. (Recommended if your beloved Pet has
- Talk to Mr Monotony about what each symbol on the Wheel means. (Well, who
knows? We certainly don't.)
- Play Rock, Paper, Scissors. (The old, classic game. Never fails for a good
laugh... except when you and your pet keep drawing Rock - Rock.)
- Watch the Battledome competitors fight. (After all, you're viewing from a
distance: it tends to make everything much safer, don't you think?.)
- Take out the lyrics to that Sticks 'N Stones song you love, and learn them.
(It may come in handy as a more 'modern' substitute to a lullaby!)
- Attempt to train your Petpet good tactics for how to wake Turmaculus up.
(You never know... It could work... *cough*)
- See how long you can keep your eyes open for, while watching the wheel spin.
(Endurance test! Much cheaper than the Techo Master... Even then, he won't train
you. He's only interested in your Neopet!)
Well, the time for me to stop writing has neared. I hope that this article
has helped you. :)
With love, Yuna & Aceqo.
Aceqo - For asking the questions I wrote.
_em0 - For helping me with the suggestions on what to do while waiting.
_al0ne - For being like my editor.)
