10 Retired Avatars We All Wish We Could Still Get

by chaeldar

--------

Have you ever decided to not participate in a site event only to realize you missed out on an awesome avatar reward? Perhaps looked at an avatar checklist to see what avatars you were missing, spotted a cool one, and then read that it was unobtainable and retired? Do you have any regrets holding off on getting an avatar for later, because one day it randomly retired? Let's be honest: it's happened to us all at one point or another, and there are some truly great avatars we either wish we had been around for or are remorseful to not have participated in when we had the chance. Today we're going to look at 10 retired avatars we all wish we could still get.

      Free Jhuidah

      Released: September 29, 2003

      Rarity: 0.31% have this avatar

This avatar was given out during the Volcano Mystery site event that happened between September 23rd, 2003 - October 18th, 2003. Kidnappings were occurring around Mystery Island and Jhuidah was one of the victims! If you freed her you were rewarded the Free Jhuidah avatar. I am a personal fan of this girly looking avvie, and, I envy anybody who was around to do the site event for this pretty pink avatar.

      Punchbag

      Released: October 17, 2005

      Rarity: 5.44% have this avatar

Punchbag Sid used to appear in the Battledome at random and replace Punchbag Bob as a challenger. If you battled Sid with your active pet and lost you would be rewarded with the Punchbag avatar. Sadly, this avatar is presumed to be retired as we have not seen Sid make an appearance in the Battledome for well over 2 years now. Some say he met a Punchbag named Cynthia and the rest is history but we may never really know.

      Altador Cup

      Released: August 4, 2006

      Rarity: 29.75% have this avatar

Right about now you're probably wondering why you have participated in so many Altador Cups but have yet to receive this avatar. Have no fear, the explanation is here! Unfortunately if you did not participate in any of the first four Altador Cups, I don't think you'll be getting this avatar at any Altador Cup any time soon (or ever), as this avatar became retired by the fifth Altador Cup and onwards.

      Fall Charity Corner

      Released: September 24, 2015

      Rarity: 0.7% have this avatar

Less than 1% of Neopians have this avatar that's dedicated to and represents charity. If you donated at least once per day for 7 days during the 2015 Charity Corner event you were eligible for the avatar. Lucky for us every year TNT comes out with a new Charity Corner avatar, however, I hope the now retired 2015 Charity Corner avatar taught us all a lesson about being a bit more charitable!

      Site Spotlight

      Released: November 11, 2014

      Rarity: 0.03% have this avatar

Have you ever spent a lot of time and effort on your Neopets webpage? Well, what if I told you there was a period of time where you could have entered your page into a contest for everybody to check out in a Site Spotlight? Yep, it was a real thing! If they picked your petpage as the winner you got the notoriety your page deserved and this neat avatar of an Aisha browsing a computer. The spotlight has not been running since early 2015, and I am left wishing I could add this avatar to my collection.

      Tooth Faerie

      Released: January 5, 2005

      Rarity: 60.49% have this avatar

This avatar was awarded at complete random, literally! She appeared at random when your Neopet lost a tooth and would give you an avatar and some neopoints. In 2014 all random events got revamped and we have not seen the Tooth Faerie make an appearance ever since. Maybe she's just taking a vacation after all her years of hard work? After all, even the Tooth Faerie needs a break sometimes. We still hold out the hope that she will make a return some day.

      I survived the Neopocalypse!

      Released: February 29, 2012

      Rarity: 10.75% have this avatar

This avatar is an interesting one, and was actually released on two separate occasions. I even remember both instances happening myself, so this is coming from an eye witness account! The first time you were able to receive this avatar was when you visited the New Features on March 1st, 2012, after the 'Great Neoboard Famine' in Y14. The Neoboards were running SO slow, and you could hardly use them, if at all! This avatar was re-released the same way on September 19th, 2014 (Y16) after the Neopets' server move was completed, where during the time of the server move you could hardly navigate on Neopets at all.

      Monster Hunting

      Released: November 1, 2013

      Rarity: 1.5% have this avatar

On September 24, 2013, Tippens (the president of the Spooky Shindig Society in Neovia) hosted a Spooky Food Eating Contest. All that's currently known is that you had to do at least a certain amount of participation in the Spooky Food Eating Contest to obtain the avatar, but what parts of it or how much participation needed still remains a mystery to this day.

      Battledome Veteran

      Released: February 19, 2013

      Rarity: 18.8% have this avatar

There was a rework of the Battledome, introducing the New Battledome, and it was an unexpected (but very much welcome) change in 2013. For a time, when you visited the New Battledome with a pet that had battled in the Old Battledome you were given the Battledome Veteran avatar as an ode to the Old Battledome! I think that's pretty nice way to pay homage, don't you?

      Lenny Conundrum

      Releasd: February 12, 2004

      Rarity: 10.17% have this avatar

Last but not least, the Lenny Conundrum avatar. The Lenny Conundrum was a mental challenge where you'd have to do math problems, puzzles, solve riddles, etc. I myself would always participate but seldom did I get an answer right and even if I did it was never quick enough. The Lenny Conundrum was a real challenge - the first 250 who correctly completed the challenge would be rewarded with neopoints, items, and the avatar. Trust me, this game was no joke and whoever was clever enough to solve those challenges in a timely manner certainly deserved the winnings! For the Lenny Conundrum, it has been several years since the last challenge and therefore has been given the retired status. Fingers crossed for it's return!

Welp, that's all the time we have for today folks and I thank you for going on this blast from the past journey with me. I hope it was as nostalgic for you as it was for me, maybe I even showed you an avatar or two you never even knew existed. Will any of these retired avatars make their return? Was that the last we will ever hear from the Tooth Faerie and Punchbag Sid? Has the Lenny from Lenny Conundrum just been at his office coming up with more challenges? Will the Site Spotlight ever make a comeback? Or will everything remain the retired for all of eternity? I will leave you with the question: What do you think?

Guilds of Neopia: Homes For Every Lost Pet
There are countless guilds in Neopia, all unique and different in their own way. The upside to this is that anyone can find a guild that is perfect for them; the downside is that it is easy to overlook your potential dream guild. There are so many guilds that Neopians put so much work into that deserve some recognition.
