5 Gross Foods That Are Borderline Delicious

by homestead58

--------

There is a certain stigma surrounding items in the category of Gross Food here in the world of Neopia – that they’re, well, gross. Although some meals within the category certainly do fit the description (I’m looking at you, Chocolate Fish Pop Milkshake!), others are grotesquely misunderstood. Some, in reality, are actually quite delectable!

If your pet has ever been curious about the strange world of Gross Foods or would like to safely ease their way into the taste-testing process, I recommend you feed them some of the more taste bud pleasing Gross Foods - AKA, the following:

     Chocolate Taquitos

These scrumptiously horrendous, wrapped goodies are probably the least repulsive item on this list. After all, who wouldn’t love what is essentially a breaded tube of chocolate? Oh, and did I mention that they’re cooked in oil? Just think of them as deep-fried eclairs. Yum!

In all seriousness, though, there are far worse things that you could eat (see the rest of this list). I might even go so far as to suggest that these not even be classified as a “Gross Food.” Perhaps, instead, they could be “unappetizing” or “unusual” – but certainly not gross! If you’d like to purchase some for your pets, they can usually be bought in the 3,500 to 12,000 NP range on the Shop Wizard. Honestly, that price can’t be beat – the taquitos even come with their own dipping bowl filled with chocolate for your convenience and pleasure!

     Cup-O-Slime

A classic. A staple. A fan-favorite. I can’t imagine that there is a single Neopian who has not had the beautifully green, goopy Cup-O-Slime in their inventory at some point. Part of its infamy is due to the fact that it is a prize from everyone’s favorite daily, Tombola. Who needs to be awarded oodles of Neopoints when you could receive this delicacy instead, amiright?!

If you’ve ever fed the Cup-O-Slime to one of your pets, then you know how well liked it is. This treat, although it might not look like the most appetizing thing in the world, is actually quite tasty. My Lenny is normally rather picky when it comes to food, but when I fed her the Cup-O-Slime, she gobbled it up right away. She didn’t tell me this, but I suspect its deliciousness stems from its green color. Of course, all the most delectable things are green – broccoli, asparagus, lettuce, etc. With that logic, it’s practically a vegetable, too! Feed your pets a Cup-O-Slime today. It’s sure to delight!

     Infested Peach

The Infested Peach is a personal favorite of mine because not only do you get a yummy piece of fuzzy fruit, but a friend to go with it! The item’s description reads, “A delicious peach with extra vitamins and protein. Say hi to the worm.” Yes, you read that correctly – WORM! Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, this Gross Food comes packed with both healthy stuff and a little bug friend that will surely cheer you on as you gobble down the peach. Although, be warned, some worms are known to be rather protective of their peaches (after all, they practically live in the thing!), so you might need to convince him or her that your pet needs the peach more than they do. Then, you should probably offer the worm room and board until you can find it another cozy, rotten fruit to make camp. It’s only polite.

The Infested Peach can be found for under 100 NP on the Shop Wizard or, if you’re feeling like a big spender, it also is found in the Blue, Green, Purple, and Red varieties of Picnic Hamper. I promise you, once your pets go Infested Peach, they’ll never go back!

      Mac and Cheese Ice Cream

As a general rule, whenever two delicious foods are combined into one, it’s bound to be delicious. The Mac and Cheese Ice Cream is no exception. In this case, two popular comfort foods are married into one truly stunning concoction. This dish, although it probably could be served in a bowl, comes ready to eat in a cone, which is arguably the most fun way to eat any ice cream dish, anyway. The cheese is thick and creamy, the macaroni cooked to tender perfection, and, of course, the ice cream base served as it’s intended to be – slightly lukewarm, since the cooked mac and cheese has warmed it past its chilly limits.

Like the majority of items on this list, the Mac and Cheese Ice Cream is inexpensive at less than 100 NP, according to the Shop Wizard. With a price like that, why not buy two or three or ten?! Your pets will never grow bored of this treat, guaranteed.

     Snail Sub

Escargot? More like Escar-go out and get one! Similar to the Infested Peach, this tasty item not only comes packed with nutrients, but with friends (plural!), too! That’s right – if your pets have ever wanted an audience or just some company while they eat, the Snail Sub is the way to go. Just, don’t think about the fact that the snails are essentially the meat of this dish – it’ll ruin everyone’s fun (especially the snail’s). Best not get too attached.

If your pets are feeling like it’s a Snail Sub kind of day, the sandwiches are available in numerous Neopian shops for around 160 NP. So, what are you waiting for?! Do some good deeds – feed your pets a food item that they are sure to love, and financially support your fellow Neopians today!

And, there you have it! Five “Gross” Foods that your Neopets are quasi-guaranteed to enjoy. After you’ve tried each of these, don’t be afraid to branch out into some of the more traditionally nasty Gross Foods. Ultimately, although some are certainly more appealing than others, I’ve found that most Neopets are generally just grateful to be fed and loved and will, therefore, eat nearly anything that you put in front of them – especially if they’re hungry! Enjoy your food tasting adventures!
